Life / Poland after one year of living here [105]

You know what, right now she really needs her family around her, with a little one of under 2, and they both need you as well.

What you could do is start planting the seeds of ideas in her head, now, and she might feel quite different in a year, if she doesn't have work or friends locally.

Perhaps you could start talking about how wonderful UK infant schools are, for example...:)

What was it she didnt like about the UK? was she in London?

I do understand Luke, and I am not trying to make you feel even worse, but if u are 'really lost' it is nothing compared to how your kid will feel only being able to see his daddy on Skype.

Interesting what you say about 'smiley lad' it is true Polish people are less 'smiley' if there is no reason for it, and might be suspicious of random smiling, if u see what I mean.. In fact I tend to agree more an more with that as I get older.

Is there a bar or similar that you could make your 'local'?

is it really worth it?

if your wife and child are there, then yes. You should give it at least another year.
How could you talk so casually about being a 'Skype daddy'?

UK, Ireland / How might Britain`s withdrawal from EU affect Poles there and here? [474]

Enoch Powell was a gifted politician

I am surprised doug I honestly thought you would say he was a 'racist' or 'stupid'.
Writing Farage off as a 'racist' though....the thing is doug, you haven't lived here for years.
What do you think it is like for older Londoners who can walk down their street and literally not hear a word of English? Not just in London either. What do you think it is like for families living in overcrowded council accomodation when immigrant families jump the housing list.

In fact sometimes they are allocated council housing that does not even make it onto the list. This does happen.
And if they DARE to say anything about it,. then they are a 'racist'.

why would Paulina's shoulder be 'bulky' Jon? Why would you say that? Looks like your 'right on' mask is slipping a tad.

Well, I am an examiner after all.

you are now an examiner for Masters level programs in Poland are you?
That is odd, I thought you just said you had a mate that was doing a Masters.

Study / Tuition Hours in Polish Universities [20]

a friend who has just finished his Masters (at a well-known Catholic university) was studying at a level similar to the first year of a BA at a Russell Group university.

oh please give that a rest Jon.
for a start, you dont reallly know what level was expected.
Nor do you know the content of first year courses at Russell Group universitites.
Also 'Russell Group' has nothing to do with undergraduate standards or student satisfaction, but is a self selected group of research universities.

Study / Tuition Hours in Polish Universities [20]

i think I had about 14 hours a week including tutorials.
that was for a lazy arts degree though, I believe science subjects were more or less a full timetable.
In my final year I had 8 hours...:D

News / Poland marching for life and family [132]

a very common procedure in Poland albeit under the radar due to pressure from religious people.

really well that is strange i thought it was more or less illegal.

News / Poland leads in child well-being -- UNICEF [75]

The poverty we have today is different in that materially the state provides better for people than it ever did in the past and yet still we have children who are literally going hungry.

i believe that might be true in Ireland but not in Britain.
You cannot feed a family properly on state benefits.

suspect much of the child poverty in the UK results from poor choices

well people have always made poor choices but that didnt result in poverty and using food banks did it?
So something else must be different.
