News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

But you took the EC Euros?

Which was given freely with no string attached to level playing field between two parts of Europe.

That's not 100% correct, Iron.

So what is it that you don't understand, Iron?

By joining the EU and taking the tax dollars of its members, you became part of a community and as such you not only have rights, you also have obligations - whether you like it or not. Poland can't have the cake and eat it.

I'm well aware of that but if those founds are for building roads they should be used to build roads

Then why did you make that BS claim that the EU funds came with no strings attached?

Which was given freely with no string attached to level playing field between two parts of Europe.

Looks like you are the one who's lagging behind, my friend...

Law / File complaint against Poland's police [97]

Why is that? Could you explain your reasons for feeling this way?

They are mostly worried about the Germans buying their old properties back.

See:

without such a rule the Germans could just come on over and buy up all that bit they lost after WW2

That the land would remain Polish no matter who buys it ... details ... ;)

Now we all are nearly as terrified

Don't worry, Grzegorz. If Poland doesn't agree to the rules that apply to conditional grants, the EU simply doesn't pay. Want money? Roll over and "woof"... :)

That's not 100% correct, Iron. Certain EU funds called "Conditional Grants' are paid out for specific purposes. Brussels attaches a lot of strings to those. Block grants (also called general purpose grants) on the other hand can be freely spent after some initial evaluation and the EU has no control over their actual use.

Classifieds / Looking for a job in Polish language in Australia (Sydney) [6]

There is only one visa I'm aware of that would allow him to work: the Temporary Contributory Parent Visa. Is that the one he has? Still, why would he want to work when he's only visiting for a few weeks?

Anyway, maybe he has a chance applying for farm work. Here's the place to look:

jobsearch.gov.au/job/search/harvest

English language skills not essential. Just get a harvest table and travel a bit.

PS:
Apologies for assuming that your dad might try something illegal. Your original post sounded a bit fishy, to be honest.

Will he go home after he'd worked illegally, or will he simply overstay his tourist visa like so many others before him? And you guys whinge that you are not part of the Visa Waiver Program in both Oz and the US...

News / Cameron's EU reform good for Poland [95]

People dont matter unfortunately, nations are always guided by those lining their pockets.

Well, maybe everybody should stop complaining about the Germans then... ;)

News / Cameron's EU reform good for Poland [95]

The Germans very infinitely happy to trade the mark for the euro.

Absolutely not true! There was a public outcry in the country when the Germans had to give up their beloved and very strong Deutsche Mark. I was there and experienced first hand how upset the Germans were and how they got scammed after artificially fixing the exchange rate. Prices for many products and services almost doubled overnight after the introduction of the Euro. So no, no one was happy in Germany (except for the bankers of course).

News / Cameron's EU reform good for Poland [95]

the Germans needed a weaker currency to dominate Europe (and non EU exports) and so they were eager to set up the eurozone.

Nonsense. The French insisted that the Germans give up their DM as a prerequisite for the reunification of Germany.

Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

How could that happen if all the other kids had been vaccinated ?

In certain "affluent" neighborhoods, the vaccination rate is extremely low because parents claim "personal beliefs" to exempt their kids. You should know this, Johnny.

If you had watched your small child...

How about...

a child dying of meningitis within two days after coming down with a headache...
a whole school getting infected with measles because one kid wasn't vaccinated...
babies being born with severe disabilities because their mothers weren't vaccinated against rubella...

You get my drift.

The 1970s Othery One. U2 didn't come along until the 1980s.

The Dubliners (as well as the Chieftains) were really popular all across Europe in the late 1970's, if I recall correctly, and U2 had their first Irish hit in 1979. I know, I know - I'm nitpicking... :)

Sorry, mod, you posted while I was writing.

but apart from Thin Lizzy we didn't have any bands

What about The Dubliners or U2? And if you count Northern Ireland, you also had Stiff Little Fingers.

News / Germans: Geh raus of Poland's business! [61]

Other than that, if someone were to call me a "kraut", I'd be bloody insulted!

Would you be insulted if someone called you a Yank or a Seppo? I wouldn't be, unless it comes across as intentionally derogatory or xenophobic.

if you respect the Germans so much, why LABEL them Krauts?

For the same reason we Aussies call our best friend a "bastard" ... :)

I know from whence I speak!

When was the last time you were in Europe? On D-Day? LOL!

News / Germans: Geh raus of Poland's business! [61]

Pan-Germanist arrogance discriminates all too EQUALLY throughout the continent.

If you talk about certain German politicians, I would agree with you. If you mean Germany or the Germans in general, then I'm afraid, you're talking out of your rear end. The Krauts and their country are actually well liked in Europe these days, and the ones on Mallorca are simply stupid chavs - just like all the others that waste their vacation on that crappy island.

Germans insults Poles

BS

Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

is that ALL countries have nevertheless kept (most of) their traditions, languages, "values".

I will have to strongly disagree with you here. No matter where you go these days (except for North Korea, of course...) you will notice how dramatically the world has changed over the past thirty/ forty years or so in terms of loss of local culture - be it language, music, cuisine, or even the way how people live together. Give it another 50 to 100 years and the world will look (almost) the same everywhere.

Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

The easiest way for a nation to commit cultural and ethnic suicide is to become more and more Western a.k.a. degenerate and progressive.

You want to build a wall around Poland to protect the country and its culture from the "evil" outside world, or how should that work? Good luck keeping the people locked up inside.

Food / A recipe for hootch? Bimber taste in Poland. [42]

If it's legal, is it really moonshine ?

As long as the distillery uses the same recipe, why not? Unless you go by the "official" definiton of moonshine, of course. Then Roger is right: if it's moonshine, then it's automatically illegal.

Genealogy / Seeking family For Zielinski living around Strzegowo or Niedzbórz, Płock, Poland [9]

or as we call it here "Russian-occupied" Poland

Historically wrong.

Polish people here (Very few here the forum is mainly made up of expats) who will read this and try and give you some help

So you think that Poles are able to change historical facts? Typical case of "The Polish version of history is always correct, all others are always wrong". Genealogy doesn't work like that.

Food / A recipe for hootch? Bimber taste in Poland. [42]

If it's Moonshine, it's illegal by definition.

I was more referring to the end product than the illegal, tax evading activity. Here's the distillery in Houston that sells the Moonshine:

Life / Are Polish people so chaotic and disorganized like Germans say? [89]

moved from
Germans and Poles are no different when it comes to perceived rudeness. The point is that most folks from the Anglosphere don't get that the Germans' and Poles' behavior isn't rude at all. They are direct and straight in your face, while the Anglos (pretending to be nicey nice) beat around the bush for a million years before they finally come to the point - smiling constantly, of course, while at the same time thinking about how they can backstab you... :)

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Why you laughing

Because you wrote "Germany and France own Poland..."

we are talking about facts and consequences there are no place for games

Then why do keep repeating this old myth that France (and the UK, and also Germany) owe Poland something?

You seem to be not grasping a very simple concept I as a majority of my compatriots lived through the consequences of the WWII.

Like almost all Europeans who were born during or shortly after the war. Poland wasn't the only country which ended up behind the Iron Curtain and had to suffer the consequences.

That Poland is being exploited is not a secret to me!

Each and every country on the planet is being exploited, Iron. That's capitalism for you.

In a sense on could claim that we are the last veterans or victims of this war.

Yes, I agree. Although, do you really believe that things will get better after our generation has passed away? Israel for example will probably use WW2 and the Holocaust for political gain until all eternity. The Germans will most likely blame themselves for the death camps even longer. Are you sure Poland is different?

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Poland suffering immensely bigger desolation by the war and political oppression

For how much longer are you planning to pull this tired old victim card? WW2 is the excuse for everything, right?

Germany and France own Poland...

You got that one right... :)
