News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Poles chose boring stability over fascinating unpredictability.

It seems that Poles are finally sick to death of fighting others, fighting each other and finally decided to go with some stability.

if you rely on patting by your 'European partners' in your politics how are you going to win anything from them (appart for some symbolic gestures)

80 billion symbolic gestures goes a hell of a long way.

Bear in mind that Germany, since 1990, has done a hell of a lot for Poland. We saw how Germany fought for visa-free access for Poles into Schengen, we saw how Germany helped Poland gain access to the EU (indeed - it might not have been publicised much in Poland, but Germany made it very clear that the 2004 accession had to include Poland), how Germany helped Poland get into Schengen, etc etc.

And don't forget the vast amount of ignoring of Customs regulations by the Germans helped Poles in the early 1990's ;)

Please, stop that.

Why? They would be doing *exactly* the same to us if PiS won.

(how about - instead of referring to individual members as rats, I just refer to all PiS voters as rats instead? We can observe how rats can swim and board different ships easily ;))

How much of your family blood went into that cause?

Hahahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Jump rat, jump! The ship is about to sink by tomorrow morning, rat!

Please, stop that.

I love that sentiment, and BTW congrats on making the most accurate election predictions(:

Did I? :/ I haven't looked.

Instead of voting physically, Delph and Hague voted morally. That is enough to bear the name of a Polish patriot.

I can assure you that when I get the vote here, I'll vote in every single election. I can't imagine not doing so - when you think about how much blood went into getting a free vote, it would be an utter insult not to do so.

Of course he is, and he's now in denial after weeks of promoting their ideology. Hahahahahahahaha.

Come on guys, you could at least be honest about voting for PiS - unless you can't actually vote, that is.

Jump rat, jump! Hahahahaha, bye bye!

All the bitterness in the world isn't going to change a damn thing - you and your ilk are now out in the cold for a long, long time. Have fun this winter! hahahahahahahaha!

Distribution of votes:

If that picture is right, PO have managed to break the West/East divide.

Dreadful result for PiS too - only 37.9 in Lubelskie is pathetic for them.

Isn't it impressive how many PiS supporters are now claiming not to support them at all?

Talk about rats jumping off a sinking ship.

Pawian, can you tell me how are you going to pay back your part of the debt (growing every day)? Because you know, your guru likes to borrow... All those campaigns against "dopalacze" and "kibole" (the main focus of the prime minister) won't fight themselves.

Let's be honest - you and your ilk pay nothing towards the debt anyway.

Perhaps if all those "patriotic" PiS voters started actually working instead of complaining, there would be no debts.

Polish people can't think for themselves - they just vote for what TV tells them to - see Janusz Palikot case

The excuses are getting better and better :D

I suppose they thought for themselves in 2005, though?

I expected bile form PIS supporters, and I am not disappointed(:

The taste of sour grapes is overpowering tonight!

Another 4 years wasted, additional 300-400 billion of debt.

Hahahaha. Shut up, losers! :D

Hey hey, na na, goodbye!

(I make no apologies for rubbing it in - I said I would, and I am - instead of talking about what ifs, let's talk about the here and now - PiS got beaten. Hahahaha)

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

You may well be correct though sir, maybe what PKP Intercity needs is an English teacher who knows everything and is easily offended.

Perhaps you should concentrate on my question as to why one needs to meet PKP Intercity top brass in order to see newly renovated carriages being vandalised in the open air.

I suggest what PKP Intercity needs is being held responsible for their actions, something that won't happen when politicians can control the company.

Seafrance is a rather excellent parallel.

SLD leader, Napieralski was completely stupefied by his party`s low results. Indeed, rightly so, it probably means the end of his leadership.

He was on the verge of tears - I guess the result is probably what's left of the Communist support.

Jarosław Kaczyński strongly declared that his party will continue the fight and one day it will be a Victory Day for PiS!!

I think his time has gone, I really do - he got a very tame reception compared to even his 2010 speech in Radom.

What's interesting is that if this exit poll is right - for the first time, there's the mathematical possibility of abolishing KRUS.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Well - I'm only going on the realities - PiS are now very firmly stuck in opposition for 3 years with absolutely no elections in sight, and the mathematics means that PO could potentially have two different coalition partners. Then you have the speech just then - did you see the guys behind him? Those eyes said "sharpened knives in the morning".

A strong second place is still second place - will PiS really want to spend yet another 3 years in the wilderness?

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

Passengers- most of whom struggle to run a bath, think they have all the answers.

Can you explain why independent bloggers discovered newly-renovated carriages being left in the open air to be vandalised?

Have you ever met any of the PKP Intercity top brass or are you just repeating what you've been spoon-fed by the media?

Who needs the media to see newly renovated carriages being vandalised and lying unused?

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

They stole money that was supposed to be earmarked for the rails and used it to fill in the budget gap for roads while the trains run with half the cars they need.

Actually, the cars not running are solely to do with inept PKP Intercity management, nothing to do with the Government. It might be in State hands, but it's run as a "hands off" company, unlike Przewozy Regionalne.

yes for the money they are spending to build 3 new high speed rail lines that go 250kph they could spend the money to get a multitude more tracks up to 150 or even 100kph. In a country where many regional trains travel at 40kph the hsr is 2 steps too far.

But at the same time, there's a desperate need to get Wroclaw-Warsaw down to less than the 5.5 hours that it takes at the minute. Building the Y line will really open up things - look at how the TGV really helped France get away from the plane. Or look at how the Thalys has really changed things - or even the opening of HSL Zuid has destroyed the air market between Amsterdam and Paris.

wants to or already many step have been taken in order to prepare the company to be privatized? I did a lil research on the net and I came to conclusion that it is just a matter of time and they have been accepting bids since May 2011, so it is not news anymore.

PiS were preparing for it just as much as PO have been. Don't let people fool you into thinking otherwise.

PKP Cargo is going to make 200 milliom net profit this year and is potentially much more profitable company. I see no point in giving it to German or Russian government.

PKP Cargo was also losing an exceptional amount of money not so long ago, and could easily go back there.

Definately. There must be very strong "lobbing" behind the whole high speed nonsense.

Of course there is - people like me would like to be in Warsaw in less than 2 hours without having to fly. I'd quite like to be able to jump on a train and be in Lodz in an hour and Warsaw in 2 - maximum. With a 250km/h line speed - we should see Warsaw-Poznan/Wroclaw being less than 90 minutes, which will be a massive improvement.

What Poland needs is to get the present network up to date.

It's getting there, but it's really not helped by the ridiculously low fares. How can it be economic to charge 7zl for a 30km run, when the buses are charging 9-10zl?

What matters is getting ordinary Polish people from A to B in a reasonable time. 8 hours from Warsaw to Gdynia is not the good thing to do :)

Oh, this, I agree - and they're getting there.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

I live here in Poznan and find it frustrating that no one even wants to talk about the election.

Well, no - people aren't interested in "post-Orwellian nightmare dystophia political situations involving our masters in Brussels" - the only ones that like such subjects tend not to speak English.

Does it mean the turnup is going to be over 60%?

I don't think so, but it seems that there's a lot of people around - I had a look in the local polling station at 8pm and it was very very busy.

Also saw the obligatory PiS posters located right outside the local church, but not on their land. Thankfully, no other party saw fit to do such a thing.

O boy! See what I mean about PIS supporters and their intellectual capabilities (no offence)

It's a great advert for PiS - vote for them, and get the support of Brits that can't even string a sentence together!

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

Donald Tusk is a pro european ass licker that will sink poland just like labour has in england.

Did your wife remember to put in her false teeth this morning?

Privatised Pkp Cargo will pay ridiculously low rates for usage of tracks as is the case now when owned by the goverment.

Actually - one interesting thing about Polish Railways is that they're not paying ridiculously low rates - in fact, quite the opposite. PKP PLK has been getting a *lot* of criticism for the track access charges - if I recall rightly, they're among the highest in Europe - and this applies to all operators, private or otherwise.

News / The excessive use of EU fund in Poland [6]

Are the polish not worried that one day they will have to pay back the EU for all this money they are using?

EU structural funds are grants, not loans.

Then again, I don't expect you to understand that.

When YOU say Poles shouldn't vote for party X, their automatic reaction will be to vote for party X

Haaha. No, actually, most Poles will vote against Party X anyway.

you are too dense for that.

Let's be honest - you and your type are going to get electorally humiliated anyway. Roll on 21:00.

It is you who is bitter about not being able to speak Polish

Who said I can't speak the language? A Callan teacher? hhahaha.

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

All yhe branch lines, all the commuter trains...they also matter.

They matter, but these should be run by the provinces, not by PKP Intercity. It's why Przewozy Regionalne is failing - they simply cannot run a network that keeps all the shareholders (the provinces) happy - which is why these services should by run by Mazowieckie/Dolnoslaskie/etc instead of one big national operator. Things are going that way as it is - but it's utter nonsense to have Przewozy Regionalne run long distance trains in direct competition with PKP Intercity, for instance.

The German model actually should be the one to aspire to, I think. They franchise out the branch lines, which are run by the best bidder - but they do not set fares or retain ticket revenue, they simply run the trains. It makes a hell of a lot of sense, and Poland is going in this direction - but not fast enough, no doubt due to all the lazy moustaches that work for Przewozy Regionalne.

I was on a local train recently that had THREE people checking tickets - on a four carriage train! Ridiculous overemployment...

But you are stupid/bigoted enough to violate the "cisza wyborcza", which BTW is a criminal offence.

Wrong. The server isn't in Poland - so it doesn't come under Polish law.

Respect Polish law or leave.

Hahaha. We could say the same to the multitude of PiS "patriots".

Life / Looking to immigrate to Europe. How is life in Poland? [116]

Prices are at the rest of EU levels and yet the average salary is nowhere near....

Are they?

Perhaps you should start by comparing the cost of meat and vegetables in Poland as opposed to Germany.
