News / Kaczyński slams "political correctness" plague in Poland [85]

@Wulkan; I do not know anyone in favor of Kukiz. Can you say why you believe in him? According to a lot of people I mingle with, he has no program. The only thing making up his "program" was the socalled JOW idea but as we have seen over 94% of Polish voters are against it. He may probably have a few people elected (including ... Liroy ;)) but to do what? Being "against" the system while benefiting from it is no program. I believe that Kukiz is helped by the calendar because should the election be held next year or later, he would have completely disappeared from the political scene.

You say that in your family too, they'll vote for Kukiz15. Why?

Thanks to explain! :)

Refusing to celebrate a homosexual wedding and refusing to send Jews to gas chamber = same level?????!!!!!! ;););). If referring to the 3 times divorced redneck US bigot who spent 7 days in jail, yes, if she does not want to respect laws, she needs to resign from her job. As to refusing to send people to death, I agree to disobedience

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

True, Pol, but don't focus on women's vote. Men are not that more rational either. Some 90% of voters for M. Ogórek were men and for instance, in Italy, when they had Cicciolina, most of her voters were men.... Nowadays, politics is no more than marketing. A candidate is sold just the way some detergent is sold and as a result candidates need to look nice, to smile a lot, with white teeth, with a nice family, with a dog..... and who cares about their lack of program. Poland is no different.

@Wulkan: if you don't live in Poland, obviously your life won't change as per Polish election ;). Interesting that you'll vote for Kukiz and thanks for telling us as most people don't want to say it.

Whether PO or PiS my life will NOT change so on October 26, "business as usual" ;)

Real Estate / Why are toilets and sinks in Poland always separated by a door? [33]

I have washer in bathroom (was already installed when I bought flat) but in other places (in Poland and elsewhere) I had washer sometimes in kitchen and no difference to me. People do mostly because of space. As to Poland, most flats are very tiny and people have to manage.

Travel / Polski Bus experiences in Poland? [17]

@Roger: not even railway but some obscure town's pks's station. I did not know about that and as I was hungry, I chose the cheese pancakes (but they were greasy ;)) and a cup of .. Capuccino (they just have powdered instant drinks to be bought from any store and a kettle). Next time, I won't bring home grilled salmon ;) but at least 1 or 2 decent sandwiches + fruit. The said joint is away from "downtown" so no shop nearby....

I assume that first of all, most people in PF are not even voters in Poland anyway.

I do not vote and whether PO or PiS no difference to my life. What matters is what most POLES want......

How many people in PF will vote next Sunday?

Study / Transferring my studies from Wroclaw to Warsaw? How easy or difficult it is? What's the required process? [26]

@555555: so if you are from Southern Italy, you are like an .... African to most Poles ;). Based upon your experience (terrible to have so many bad examples in such a short time and also you are so young), if I were you, I would get the hl... out of Poland and would move to a more tolerant country. Frankly, I doN'T understand why people who are "different" come to a country like Poland. I personally don't look any "different" and am family connected to Poland otherwise no way, José! Only 2 times, I was mistaken for a Russian because some local idiots thought I had a Russian accent (most ...unlikely ;)) and I really had a bad time.... How the hel... can I possibly have a Russian accent? This was in Warsaw so don't think that elsewhere in Poland, it's "better" than in Wroclaw, which is very often considered the most open area in Poland.

So now, you know Poles ;)

Very "funny", your comments re Egypt ;). Indeed racist Poles don't mind making some money with and from ...... muslims. At home, we would say "do as I say, don't do as I do"...

Life / Your Polish friends - why do you regard them as such? [41]

@Delph: re business attitude, it is beyond understanding! How many times do they disappear???? ;) Just now I have a personal case in Katowice (I have even contacted Doug thru mps). Although I had ordered work, which the guy had agreed to do, we had agreed on the price (or rather I had accepted his price because suitable to me), when I asked the guy for his bank account number so I could make a money transfer right away, he simply disappeared and did not answer my phone calls, sms's, mails.... The result is that I'll go to Katowice next week to talk to him. It's rather common that they accept work and then disappear. It beats me. Some Pole told me once that the reason is that Poles are not used to speak their minds. I suppose that being isolated + communism don't help in social matters...

Travel / Polski Bus experiences in Poland? [17]

the problem with Polski Bus is that network is very limited. Last winter I went to the mountains at Slovakian border and will return this coming winter and the only way is to take PKS. Just to think about it makes me panick. The bus takes close to 10 hours, stop at 3 places including Kielce just for a few minutes to let people use toilets but need to run ;) and at Busko (?) for lunch, where the only place is a greasy spoon joint selling flaki, pierogi, greasy soup and greasy pancakes. Taking the train would be very difficult. I suppose train to Krakow and then bus but how long between them? Hence, close to 10 hours for some 400 km and the PKS buses are not that great..... Not easy! The only + is that it's cheap.....

Study / Transferring my studies from Wroclaw to Warsaw? How easy or difficult it is? What's the required process? [26]

@555555: if what you say is right, it's pitiful but through PF, you can understand that Poles (I would say at least 98%) are racist, xenophobic, antisemitic, homophobic, etc... If you stay in Poland and if you and your buddies look kind of dark, you have to be aware of it. Personally I would not set a foot in Poland if I looked "different"... I don't look any "different" but twice I was mistaken for a Russian (?) because of my way of speaking Polish and as a result, I was verbally agressed (I was shocked and did not appreciate).

This situation is awful and it is not acceptable to be stared at, stigmatized, verbally and even physically agressed because "different" but sorry, this is Poland and the eastern parts of Europe. I personally know several non Europeans (including teenagers) who were physically agressed in Warsaw as well as some Polish gays being attacked.

You know, racism in this part of Europe is cultural but if these eastern countries want to be part of the Europan community, they need to clean up their acts. In the 21st century, nobody should be treated any longer like sh####t because of their color, their religion or lack hereof, their national origin, their sexual orientation, their political opinions..... This is MY opinion based upon my background, my education, the way I was raised but Poles of course don't feel this way. Just keep reading PF and you'll have an idea ;).

To conclude, you know, you could study anywhere (Poland is not the best country to study) and in a lot of countries, you would get no problem for being foreign. Are you and your buddies from Southern Italy and Spain, where most people are much darker?

Take care!:)

PS: I'll be lynched by PF's racists but I don't give a d... about them.

@555555: so you've seen Polish migrants working in .... Egypt!!!! Very interesting indeed! ;);) "lol" "lol"

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

@Wulkan: of course, Poles (and all areas East of former West Germany) are racist and it's well known everywhere. In Western countries, people are used to live with other nationalities and people who are different. In the West, mixed couples are for instance no big deal. I heard not long ago the number of nationalities to be found for instance in London and in New York and even if I don't remember exactly, I was really amazed.

Pure common sense that people grow up in closed societies have very closed minds. I have of course tons of examples but just one that I had a few days ago. A Russian client of mine just left for the US to spend a few months for her job and I happen to have lived in that US area and when we spoke about it to eath other, her first comment was "it's full of .... blacks" ;). I know Russians are worse than Poles but ....

On my fingers of only one hand, I can count the Poles I know who are not racist, not antisemitic, not homophobic.... Personally I would love to meet more of them, if any....

You guys are shocked when foreigners tell you that you are racists but aren't you racists? ;)

Racism comes from ignorance and also low self esteem.

Study / Transferring my studies from Wroclaw to Warsaw? How easy or difficult it is? What's the required process? [26]

@555555: why did you not say you are Italian? In PF, "international student" means "from 3rd world" in 100% cases.

Sure Poland is a closed and hence a very racist (you can get ideas right away in PF ;)) country but I personally have never heard anything about Europeans. Poles hate everybody who are not white, not catholic, not heterosexual but they feel no particular hostility towards others. "Warsaw seems.."! No, Warsaw is exactly (at best) the same as Wroclaw whom most Poles consider the most open area in Poland. In Warsaw, too, because of simple maths, most Poles never interact with foreigners and most foreigners live in ghettos (because first of all but not only the language barrier. I know English-speakers who have 0 social contact with Poles).

In Warsaw, it'll be the same as it is in Wroclaw. You said that you and your Spanish buddies got beaten up and victims of ... racism? Are you sure it was ... racism? Do you know what racism is? Unless all of you are pretty dark and mistaken for non Europeans, I doubt you guys were victims of racism. I am myself a mixed (Western) European with some Spanish blood (I'm proud of) and I have NEVER faced any hostility (in Poland and anywhere else). You guys had the misfortune to encounter alcoholic Polish scum (there is a lot of them everywhere, including in Warsaw).

Good luck!

Study / Transferring my studies from Wroclaw to Warsaw? How easy or difficult it is? What's the required process? [26]

@Terri: 100% agreed! It is terrible that they have to come in order to discover racism and lack of work for students (and others) but sorry aren't they more than naive? Everybody knows about intolerance and racism, not only in Poland but in all post-communist countries so why do they come? Furthermore, how the h... can they expect to find (student) employment without a single word of Polish and no qualifications? In Poland, I have never seen an Indian, Pakistani, Bengali or Philippino working.... The OP wants to get out of Wroclaw (supposed to be the most open city in Poland) to move to Warsaw but he'll get same problems.

In Western European countries, it's probably more difficult to get admitted to higher education.

sorry, but being naive is very dangerous...

PS: how do you want to report "racism" to local police? Unless someone is beaten up or worse, police won't intervene and besides the cops are as racist are the normal citizens.

@Atch: I don't go to all places every day but I remember well that one day I had to go to Gocławek (once a week) and that is was exactly 17 km away but nevertheless, I (now) easily spend over 2 (more ?) hours per day (it used to be much more but I have stopped). Only from my home, it takes 20 mn to go to Centrum so no big deal to have to travel for 1 hour to go somewhere else.

Do any people, including officials talk in favor of a metro? I don't remember very well but I think that Dublin is very small so do you think a metro would be great help? The problem now is that if they even decide to build a metro, it'll take quite a few years before having one single line opened.

In Warsaw, the metro, although very limited, has been like a miracle ;)

Thanks for link:)

I remember while in Ireland that country roads were so narrow that it was impossible to have 2 cars in opposite direction at the same time so one car had to let the other car go first... Is it still the way now? Nevertheless people were used to it and very cooperative with each other.

"hard working"? Maybe so in England but not in Poland. The productivity in Poland is very low and it seems that there is a lot of f..cking around in Polish firms (I won't talk about government offices where they are not very tired when they leave work at night and where plants are well watered). Poles "do a lot of hours" on the job but very little work, at least in Poland.

Ziem: No, I live close to Center but since I travel to clientèle all day long and go to a lot of places (Warsaw is very spread out). Until last year, I had 3 or 4 hours per day but now, I limit to max 2 hours because I was exhausted and it was time consuming.

@Atch: "lol". Is it a problem with money or with construction (for instance soil is too hard, too soft..)? You know, I take public transportation within Warsaw between 6 and 10 times every day and here too, I can say that schedules are rather unreliable and often purely symbolic (for instance no bus at time indicated and then 3 or 4 together going the same route). Of course, when taking public transportation once in a while, it can be "ok" but when it's everyday and several times a day, it's a rather different matter. On top of that, most often buses, trams and metro are overcrowded. Of course a lot of improvements were made thanks to EU (we used to have old vehicles breaking down all the time and it was great when a tram before ours broke down ;)) but it's not enough.

Traveling in bad conditions is a source of stress, of fatigue... Authorities have their chauffeurs so they don't give a da.. about the common folk...

Today's poll: wyborcza.pl/1,75478,19032680,pis-zwieksza-dystans-do-po-nowoczesnapl-poza-sejmem-sondaz.html
I don't know whether it makes sense to have one or more polls every day. Nobody can of course deny that PiS shall win and that PO shall come second but as to the other parties, I don't know whether polls are reliable. Someone told me that for instance people voting for PSL often don't say it as they are embarrassed to say so and I'm sure it's the case for all small parties. According to today's polls, there shall be 5 parties... In fact, best to have several parties in order to have the whole population represented.

Travel / I discovered Poland - a nice country [62]

@Atch: there was a study issued not long ago by the EU. The 3 worst cities in the EU in terms of driving were respectively: Warsaw, Marseille and Krakow.

I don't know Dublin (was there over 25 years ago for 3 weeks) but believe me, in Warsaw, till last year (I have decided to stop) I spent between 3 and 4 hours per day traveling throughout the town just for work as everything is spread out and badly organized (not to mention overcrowding all the time) and I was exhausted, I no longer want to do it.... I suppose Dublin is small but Warsaw although a big village is very spread out (a lot of Warsaw neighborhoods would be considered "suburbs" in the West).

One problem too in Warsaw (and in Poland) is that car sharing does not exist. People want to show that they own cars and as a result almost all cars only have the drivers and no passengers at time when people go to and return from work. If car sharing was encouraged, it would make things easier...

PS: today at my neighborhood shop, they offer a free bag of Vegeta style crap for the purchase of 1 bottle of coca cola ;)

@Atch: do you have metro in Dublin (I suppose you don't in other Irish towns ;))? Not to be off topic, I shall add, if you do, is it less or more developped than in Warsaw?

Law / 27 months of marriage with Polish wife but still UK home office not satisifed with our wedding [11]

You know, Polsyr, in a lot of Western countries, when a Western type woman marries a guy from a complete culture/religion, it is not rare that authorities suspect scam marriages and refuse to deliver documents (it happens often in France as I know). Just like when they refuse visas, they may be entitled not to give any reason.

Maybe best would be to move (at least temporarily) to Poland or to India before trying in the UK again.

However, if the OP wants to complain, best to see a lawyer than to ask "random clowns" in a "random forum", as Dominic says...

@Lyszko: in Poland only Warsaw has a (most limited) metro system whereas the western cities you mention have a wide spread of metro system with a lot of lines and hundreds of stations. A lot of Western provincial cities have metro whereas none in Poland does. Western European capitals and main cities have circular roads built around them so possible to drive without entering the city. I know that in Moscow they even have 3 such circular roads but of course Moscow is a huge city and I would not dare comparing Warsaw (a big village) and Moscow.

Of course, thanks to EU funds (;)) things have improved a lot but it's still far behind Western Europe and travelling around towns and cities in Poland is often a nightmare (according to recent EU studies, Warsaw is the worst EU). I live in Warsaw, travel alot by public transportation all over the city and it's a pain in the as... It is difficult, time consuming, exhausting and as a consequence, there are places I now refuse to go to because I don't want to waste my time.

Of course, travelling from one sh]]]hole to another by public transportation is at best an ordeal when not impossible. There are for instance small places in Mazowiecki several hours away by train from Warsaw

Still a long way to go! ;)
