Love / Foreign Men and Polish Girls for Citizenship [59]

I don't like the fact that they see Polish girls as cheap and easy but, as Justy will tell you, there are plenty who fit that description. I don't see them as easy at all, many are vain and hard to get close to.

Polish girls can always say no and not be dragged down.

I think another rule, though not golden, is not to offer an overly flattering tip. I know some businessmen in Scotland who would flash the cash, depending on the extent of their drunkenness. This would not go down so well amongst some here.

Love / Polish girls, how are they when they are in love? [86]

Yeah, well done for staying on topic. I'm sure some will stray and mention other countries but this is about Polish girls.

Before I met my fiancee, I had one here who tried the playing hard to get tack. I'm really not into that and was pretty cool, just getting on with my daily life. She didn't like that and starting asking me why I wasn't contacting her. Well, she just didn't mean that much to me and I never even gave her a sign that she did. There is a certain vanity here (yes yes, I've seen it elsewhere too, LOL) that needs to be overcome. The old phrase, 'get over yourself' is very relevant here.

Quite right M-G, give her the brush off.

Sausage's tip is a good one. There is something I do which my fiancee must explain to the Pole in question.

Let's say the bill is 53PLN and I put down 60PLN, I will put down 1 groszy extra to make it relatively clear that I don't want change. Maybe they just can't read my intentions or don't want to second guess me.

UK, Ireland / Magazine for Poles - "Magazyn Emigrant" [4]

magazynemigrant.pl/PDF/Emigrant,_Media-Pack_ENG.pdf,

This is an interesting magazine for Poles living in the UK. It covers a lot of ground and may serve as a source of assistance.

Gosiaczek is right in the sense of outlining the standard position.

Still, they won't feel offended for offering them one. A tip I mean ;)

Life / Tips on tipping in Poland [45]

Exactly right, AP. The tips I give are an hours pay for some of them.

I tip in all of the above situations, isa.

When I get a cab back from Tesco, the fare is usually 12PLN so I pay 15PLN, not much of a tip but convenient. 25% in fact.

I don't get pizza much for dieting reasons but, when I do, the tip depends on the bill and how easy it is to round up. Up to 5PLN.

Hairstylist, a couple of złot. I gave her 15PLN for a 10PLN haircut a few days back.

Restaurant, just over 10% typically. When I'm feeling charitable, 20%

Love / Polish girls hard in relationships [156]

Here we go again. Polish girls do seem to be a tad bit more emotional. If they only learned to generate positive vibes and energy. They seem to thrive off of negativity, I just don't get it.

UK, Ireland / Britain... What the Poles did for us. [444]

Of course, it just depends on the area. If you work in Law, then your English has to be close to impeccable. If you lift things all day, then gesturing would seem to suffice. Failing that, grunts ;)

Here's to gameshows. The call-in shows are super. The letter was K and they had to guess sth in the kitchen.

A guy said 'kutas', LOL. That was a classic ;)

Travel / Question about the Rynek and City of Wroclaw [15]

No answers to this thread, unbelievable. Wrocław is like a mini-Prague. It doesn't quite have the same international appeal but it's a much underrated city.

It's a big step up from here, that's for sure.

People don't seem to realise that getting a job can be a job in itself for some. Registering for JSA is sensible. You need money in the interim before you get into work.

I admit that some Poles were very hasty to up sticks and dive into their new jobs but they were the unrealistic ones who thought they were entering into some utopian world. Not the majority by any stretch.

We all know the downsides of surveys tho. Nobody admitted to voting for Conservative in any surveys years back, yet they won a landslide victory, LOL. The Mori and Gallup polls were wholly misleading.

Survey results can often be ignored too. Just as RyanAir and BAA did when the survey showed a strong demand for flights from Aberdeen Airport. They turned away :(

There is no doubt that the Poles helped out in many areas. The claims that they are benefit scroungers are overstated. The stats, provided they are not cooked, should paint the picture and tell the story.

That's also true, Osioł. Many Poles are in it for the long haul. They have completely lost faith in their homeland. There was a survey, sorry Puzzler, dunno where exactly, which showed that many Poles plan to stay in the UK.

You want proof? You can't handle the proof, LOL

this is from a reliable source. I chose not to opt for the Daily Mail as it is a bigoted rag.

That's the benefit of the edit function. Talks of removing it are nonsensical.

Mister H, there are many in Scotland like that for sure but it is said, with some backing, that the English deflected the attention from their own stinginess onto the Scots. I don't know how much truth there is to that, tbh.

What I do know is that, within Scotland, there is a perception that Aberdonians are tight-fisted people and that they give the rest of Scotland a bad name. I think it's true to a large extent and I lived there for over 20 years. My family hate many Aberdonians for this reason. My mum always has a story to tell.

Puzzy has a point. Around Sep 2004, when many Poles had already left for British shores, the exchange rate was above 7:1. This was the talk of the times. Even a 1000 pound(s) a month job in Britain would become 7200PLN. That's more than many get here, probably more than double the national average. However, it's more like 4:1 now. Watch any Youtube video, they wanted 2 or 3 year stints in the UK, save like a demon, and get set up here in Poland. This is corroborated by the students I taught. I checked their CV's for them and they wanted to go for that time period.

The Poles woke us up to what a bunch of lazy, binge-drinking people we can be. In Scotland, we have this culture but it's more predominant in England.
