News / Poland's Murky Stream Media - Rydzyk [36]

This interview with him in some mag (I don't know anything about it) called Sieci No 28 (32) 15-21/07/13 (page 21, bottom paragraph) suggests the Maybach is a myth.

He would say that. And he isn't known for truthfulness or transparency, unfortunately.

the Maybach

The allegation was true, though not as true as the media hoped. He had one, but it was only rented rather than bought. I wonder how much it cost to hire and who paid...

Free-will donations? Are you sure about that? Would you perhaps like to explain why he "lost" money donated to save the shipyards? Or perhaps explain his connections to South American characters?

This is one of the most significant things about that particular media business. Alleged funding from abroad by a character with a warrant out for them.

So he's pushing his own media outlets. Viewing figures show that most people prefer the mainstream to televangelism.

News / Poland's political party to ban pornography? [60]

disgusting filth

This from someone who describes special children as 'morons' and women who date as 'diseased sluts'.

Maybe you need a bit of prn to help yourself lighten up.

Life / Costs of living Warsaw vs the provinces [8]

1500 to 2000 PLN,

The former price (or less) out in the suburbs depending on whether it's a good or bad area, 1800-2000 in the centre.

History / Not only Mazowiecki damned an innocent bishop [74]

. In war some democratic procedures msut be suspended or restricted to protect against the enmies of democracy

That's probably how the PRL saw it, back in the early days.

The USA is a noble coujntry fighting the ignominous forces of death and destruciton.

There are plenty round the world who would disagree. Some still have the scars from the chemical wepons they dropped on villagers.

The PRL was an ignominious terrrorist

It was the legitimate government of Poland, recognised by, among others, your country.

Food / The great British teabag hunt thread [66]

Try Marks & Spencer in PL - they have something very similar.

the Polish/Slavic teapot method

Now almost everybody in PL uses teabags. Very little loose tea is sold. Do you use a privy in the garden too? Nothing beats tradition!

Work / Moving to Lodz - will my 2500 PLN salary be enough? [52]

More like over 95%. Even in Wrocław, more than 80% of the prewar architecture is neglected and needs major attention.

That's part of the charm in £ódź. If all the buildings were freshly painted with those bloody awful plastic windows that are popular in PL, £ódź would lose a lot of its charm.

However, it had a certain charm, like a de Chirico painting. Created a eerie atmosphere in the early morning when I would go out to drink my coffee.

There's something wonderful about the place. De Chirico is a perfect analogy. Also the feeling that you're in the westernmost city of the old Russian Empire with all the faded elegance of something that's mostly now lost.

Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

on gumtree

I had cause to look on gumtree for someone a while ago.

Prices seemed cheaper.

One very annoying thing was that even if you filter out agents and search direct offers only, some of them were still agents pretending to be the owner of the flat. You have to be very careful about that.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Exactly - so in fact the thread title is another in a long string of lies. He evidently thinks nobody notices,

People do notice, just as certain inconsistencies from the past can't be brushed under the carpet easily.

History / Not only Mazowiecki damned an innocent bishop [74]

Kazcmarek was innocent of the trumped-up espionage charges the stalimnist regime had cooked up.

I'm not convinced of that at all. And Prime Minister Mazowiecki at least has no stain on his character, unlike some character guided more by religion than logic.

No, wikipedia was

Explain.

History / Not only Mazowiecki damned an innocent bishop [74]

Bishop Kaczmarek was innocent,

Innocent of what?

Is this your usual BS dug up from wiki, or do you have a bit more credible information than wiki, like the Institute of National remembrance for instance?

Spot on.

He was even casting aspersions on a nobel prizewinning poet and Joe Alex as well.

So rigged show trials are OK if no-one gets executed.

Depends whether or not the person is guilty of the crime they're charged with.

Mazowiecki, Szymborska

Good people without stain on their character.

I think you'll find there are people in Warsaw far less reputable...

History / Not only Mazowiecki damned an innocent bishop [74]

How or why would anyone need to 'whitewash' a highly respected public figure, jailed dissident and former Prime Minister?

I wonder why you don't want us to talk about a certain American who brown-nosed and collaborated and thus was allowed to travel where and when he wanted while other people were locked up by the commies you are accusing them of collaborating with.

I wonder too...

He did not, though many did.

signed something

Even more did that.

Bishop Kaczmarek was facing the gallows.

Was he found guilty?

Life / Polands' Generation Y = instant generation [22]

Probably it was part of the attachment and they figured there was no reason to try and remove it.

It was up in the top corner. If they know how to put a photo on, they know how to remove one. And if they don't, WTF were they applying for a job like that?

Regardless of how the job was obtained, it's the job performance that weeds them out.

Normal enough - though some awkward ones seem to stay for years.

Life / Polands' Generation Y = instant generation [22]

I advertised a job in Poland and asked for CV with no photo. They still put photos on - including some with the applicant wearing a wedding dress!

Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

Renting cost in Warsaw:

Those prices seem more expensive than reality. Are they the price for certain neighbourhoods or types of flat?

Foreigners have to pay usually premium.

A decade ago, maybe.

Great! Why not give us a thumbnail sketch of the typical 20-some-year-old job seekers you run into?
Pay expectations, job performance, general attitude, use of company computers for private emailing, computer games and facebookery, etc.

Normal hardworking young people. BTW, we block facebook during working hours. Personal email is acceptable.

This is true, however we don't block it and I use it frequently.

I wonder why you even mention it? It's a bit of a non thread then, isn't it? Anyone could start a thread describing a caricature pulled out of thin air. Do you have an opinion?

Very true.
