UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

1/ Better weather
England has shorter winter than Poland.

2/ More emphasis on good food
Britain is very multicultural, so there is more chances to eat food from the whole world. There is more international restaurants and food stores with foreign food. Exotic food and restaurants are more accessible, because salaries are higher.

3/ Diverse and rich natural scenery in Poland
For British it's easier to watch foreign sceneries, because of higher salaries. It's also easier to just go somewhere for the weekend, because price of benzine is cheaper in relation to earnings.

4/ A more comprehensive tourism infrastructure
really?

5/ More culturally engaged than in the UK i.e. free city centre concerts, kaberets etc[/quote]
If you earn enough, then these things don't have to be free. You should be comparing participation of people, not just prices.

Life / Amazon stops super saver delivery on orders to Poland [40]

Although the US opened in Poland two huge logistic bases, there are no plans to launch a web Amazon.pl. - We are moving more towards creating one global portal in different languages. But we still have a long way to go. For now, I can assure you that from the first day of our operations in Poland we'll offer products which come from Polish manufacturers. Besides, if by any case the customer order goods from Poland and the Polish stock, delivery costs will be lower - says Tim Collins.

Amazon spokesman says that their goal is to have one website amazon.com with different languages instead of many international stores. He added that when warehouses in Poland will be ready, then shipping for products available there will be cheaper to Poland.

Study / Cost of studying music in Poland [5]

Germany is an exception, because studies in Public universities both for Germans and foreigners are for free or just 500 EUR per semester.
And about answering emails. There is bigger chance that email will be answered if it's from potential customer which will be paying 10 000 EUR tuition :) But generally all emails are answered. Maybe in China it's different, because you have bigger number of people, so more email per person and it's harder to answer.

Life / Why is there such interest in Poland from the Asian population? A new wave of migrants possibly? [23]

I would not surprise me if Wroclaw (among other Polish cities) did evolve into Silicone Valley's.

DominicB i right, that you should not take press too seriously. First of all what stood behind creation of Silicon Valley was a lot of government money (hundreds of billions invested into military research), top scientists in their fields, entrepreneurship and size of American market.

Wrocław is too small, doesn't have top scientist, doesn't have top technologies, doesn't have big capital. Perhaps it has relatively well educated graduates, (like hundreds of cities in the world). Perhaps it has good entrepreneur spirit and perhaps EU market is big enough (if language differences can be overcome).

But that's too little. It's nothing unique or special about the city. That's also why nobody else created something close to Silicon Valley.

What Poland could try to copy is Israeli model with government supported Venture capitals investing in promising start ups. But it's not what Wrocław is concentrating on right now. Outsourcing job is not innovative and will not give golden eggs IT companies like Twitter, Facebook or even Estonian Skype. Moreover competition is big and bigger European cities like London or Berlin have much more advantages over Wrocław to become next Silicon Wadi.

Life / Why is there such interest in Poland from the Asian population? A new wave of migrants possibly? [23]

If anything, the role Poland now plays as an outsourcing country will soon peak and start to decline, and I expect that to occur soon rather than later. The fact that outsourcing centers in Poland have to resort to importing foreign labor is a sign of impending decline, not future growth.

That will only happen if differences between salaries in Poland and in western Europe decline. It hasn't happened in last 5 years:

The latest Eurostat data refer to hourly labor costs in the national economy , excluding agriculture and public administration. Naturally, the highest labor costs in countries where there has been the highest earning residents , among others, Sweden, Luxembourg, Denmark and Germany - the average hourly labor costs exceed 30 euros here .

The lowest labor costs were recorded in Bulgaria, where they were suddenly 3,71 euro per hour. In second place is Romania - 4.6 euro per hour. In Lithuania and Latvia hourly costs amount to little more than 6 euros . In Hungary 7.4 euros, and in Poland - 7.6 euros.

- according to that article quoting Eurostat salaries in Poland measured in EUR raised by 0.1% in last 5 years, while in Germany 12,2%, France 9,9%, UK -0,3%. The need to import few IT guys from India means only that speed of IT services outsorcing expansion to Poland may slow down. Not decline.

I wonder how salaries changed in last 5 years in India and China.

Law / Will opening an online company in Poland help with obtaining a visa? [11]

It happened to a friend of mine a few years. He'd overstayed his visa.

It couldn't be your friend because I talk about the case when Visa is not needed. No I don't work with that. Perhaps there are some companies linked on the website which I mentioned.

Law / Will opening an online company in Poland help with obtaining a visa? [11]

First of all Poland has bilateral agreement with Brazil, so you can come here as a tourist without any visa. Moreover when the allowed time in Poland finishes you can leave the country for example by crossing Ukrainian border and come back again. It's the same agreement as mentioned here in the topic about USA: https://polishforums.com/usa-canada/poland-bilateral-visa-waiver-agreement-69842/

If you want to come here with business visa, then requirements are following:

You must open 1 of the following types of the company in Poland:

- limited partnership
- limited joint stock partnership
- limited liability
- joint stock company - limited liability company

Only problem (except of the bureaucracy) is that those forms of business are relatively expensive.
You have to pay 50 000 pln or 100 000 pln for establishing company. And later pay for accountant to do bookkeeping.
There are other forms of companies in Poland, but not available for foreigners. Advantage of those is limited liability - up to the amount payed for establishing the company.

Another idea is for your brother to open cheaper form of the company and employ you.

Work / EU Blue Card for Poland. Which salary is needed? [47]

It took me 3 years and 5 months to take the permanent residence permit (...) with the permit to settle-in polish is called:zezwolenie na osiedlenie sie (

Could you link some legal basis for the so fast permit granting?
According to migrant you should be married to Polish citizen in order to get it sooner than 10/5 years.

In that case, what would be the consequences?

What would be consequence of obtaining Blue Card? I think it will not help you in anything if you're working legally in Poland. What counts for granting permanent permit is the time of legal, continues (*you cannot leave for longer than 6 months, 10 in total), presence in Poland, job and health insurance. Moreover studying is counted only in half to the time spent in Poland required for permanent permit. So it's not sure weather your PhD would be treated as work or studies.

USA, Canada / What is the procedure for working in Canada as a Poland's national? [3]

Read this AMA:

1 Withdrawals are here every two weeks , on average, have slightly more than 2 thousand CAD.

2 I rent an apartment. - " 1 Bedroom" near the center of [ care about the distance to the center and communication ] . 1100CAD pay for an apartment per month.

3 If you're talking about Toronto is a lot of it is probably an understatement. In Toronto, more than 50 % of the population are immigrants , most of them are colorful. The norm is that at the moment you pass someone who speaks a different language. Much also depends on the area , there are places in Toronto where hard to meet white . If we are talking about small towns some 300-400km of Toronto is actually color is much less. The Chinese are starting there post their small shops . Total inflow of foreigners is huge. On the one hand it is beautiful in the country.

For example, in my work for 15 people of 12 different nationalities , and there is only one true Canadian (ie, his parents were also born in Canada).

4 There are four metro lines , two major (yellow + green) , and two smaller ones. After that there are a lot of buses / trams. The communication is so that while on the subway , you can rely on, every few minutes minutes ( during peak hours every minute / two ) is a train , then bus has different case . In the morning I always have the bus on time is about so much after work I sometimes wait up to 30-40 minutes for the first bus . The second issue is the size of the city, when you want to go somewhere else then you have to reckon that it takes at least 1.5-2h to get there . Overall the city is well connected , everywhere can be reached without a problem, but sometimes it takes a little bit .

For comparison with Wrocław the impression that in the vicinity of the center of bus / tram stops are much more likely than in Wroclaw.

I think you could come as a tourist and search for the company which would like to sponsor your working visa. How long? As long as your tourist visa is valid.

The guy from linked AMA took part in program called "IEC - International Experience Canada". It allows limited number of young Poles to work for 1 year in Canada. You can also apply for some sort of working visa for professional if you are young graduate of engineering (and few other specialties) with knowledge of English and preferably French and some working experience in your field.

Work / EU Blue Card for Poland. Which salary is needed? [47]

forummigracyjne.org/en/aktualnosci.php?news=338&wid=34

4 years.

I wrote wrong. It's not 4, but 5 years:

There doesn't seem to be any fast track to permanent residency for Blue Card holders in Poland:

apply.eu/BlueCard/Poland

as there is in Germany:

Study / Opinion required on teaching standards of Polands technology universities [11]

It's the best university in Poland, but you will not get a job here as I mentioned in other post. Although as a graduate of Polish university you can work in Poland without work permit, it's very unlikely (impossible), that somebody would like to employ foreigner in power engineering field instead of local. Foreigners working in Poland are either managers, language teachers, multilingual call center / outsourcing stuff, IT people, construction workers, farmers help or cleaning people.

Work / Warsaw vs Kraków (Business and Study - planning to study and possibly live there for a while) [7]

The most attractive is Warsaw, because of the highest salaries and lowest unemployment. Then there is Kraków not far from mountains, Tricity on the Baltic Sea and Wrocław with Poznań relatively close to Germany. From those Tricity and Poznań seem to have the best salary to rent/buy ratio. It's important what you want to study, because some cities are better for some professions and the best if you become a programmer, because programmers have the highest salaries and smallest unemployment in all mentioned cities.

Most of people on this forum are immigrants from western Europe so they will discourage you from coming here, because Poland is one of the poorest EU countries so no the most attractive place in the EU.

Work / Any PAID internships for college students in and or around Poland? [6]

Well paid internships are only for people with exceptional achievements from top schools in the world who managed to get into internship programs of top companies. You don't find them on polishforums.com. Moreover you should generally expect lower pay in Europe than in USA, because on average salaries are lower and taxes higher here. If you can revise your pay expectations then go to your local aiesec.org office and inquiry about internship possibilities.

Law / Obtaining a work visa/permit for non-EU resident (Ukrainian) in Poland? [7]

No work permit is only for employing Ukrainians for up to 6 months work per year. I think it's regardless of position. Foreign language teachers don't need work permit when they teach their native language, but only in public schools in Poland.

If you are ready to pay more than 4079,31 złotych per month and sign agreement for 1 year then they can get Blue Card work permit (permit for professionals).

Check flyers here:

forummigracyjne.org/en/aktualnosci.php?wid=34
info-migrator.pl/pl-4-praca_w_polsce-12-zezwolenie_na_prac%C4%99.htm

If work permit is needed then you have to apply for Permit A, pay some fee (100zł) and Wojewoda will have to decide weather the salary is not lower than average for employees on this position and that there are not many unemployed Poles suitable for performing this work or that you were searching for local employee for this position without success (I think to do that you give job offer to PUP and after some time get confirmation that nobody applied):

No work permit is needed if foreigner graduated University in Poland.

UK, Ireland / Ukrainians getting Polish passports then emigrating to UK/other EU countries [6]

It's rather 2nd thing. Who could get Polish passport got it long time ago. Now Ukrainians get mostly Karta Polaka, which allows only work and studying in Poland, but it's not an Passport. There is also group who get Polish visa for work - it's easy to obtain for Ukrainians as they don't need permit to work for up to 6 months per year in Poland, and later use it to enter Poland and cross Schengen border illegally in order to work illegally in the west, but not in UK.

Work / Is salary of 3000 Euros gross enough to live decently in Lodz, Poland? [53]

so by trying to calculate "how many times" more or less, that number drastically changes when you take a small number (salary) and cut it down 35% due to deductions whereas

3,834 zł gross = 2737.61 net
18,000 zł gross = 12608 net
12608/2737.61 = 4.6

it's more or less the same as when comparing gross salaries 4.7. As we see taxes in Poland are not very progressive.
