News / Why has the US dollar reached almost 3.99 zł in Poland? [56]

$ being almost 30% higher just makes importers in Poland really miserable with there pre orders

There are instruments out there (hedging for example) that can protect you from exchange rate exposure.

Feedback / The Cognitive Dissonance and Campaign of Hate by Polonophobes and Other Peddlers of Anti-Polish Propaganda [60]

There aren't laws against freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

Which is of course only half of the truth, as we both know. Yes, there is freedom of speech and you can say what you want, but that doesn't mean that you have a free pass. Let 100 members of the KKK or the American Nazi Party walk through your city, and you will see at least ten times as many decent people protesting angrily against this scum. The brown filth needs all the police protection they can get, because without it the regular folks would give them what they deserve: a good beating and a kick in the ass before they are tarred and feathered and chased out of town.

Same here on PF. Free speech is guaranteed, but there are still unwritten rules and limits. You cross a certain line and I guarantee you that you will get the reaction you deserve. The handful of nut jobs here that pretend to be part of Polonia and hide behind its name to spread their racist, ultra right-wing agenda are the equivalent to the scum bags above. They need all the police protection they can get (a.k.a. the admin and the mods). Without it they would be removed from PF faster than they can say "oopsy daisy".

Strangely, it's always the extremists on both ends of the political spectrum who demand free speech to protect the "diversity of opinions"...

I outlined plenty of examples.

Hogwash. Give me quotes of posts that YOU think are anti-Polish, and then tell me why.

But naturally for you Poles should be the ones apologizing to the Germans for what happened as a direct result of German aggression.

You're putting words into my mouth as usual. Where did I say anything about apologizing? I simply compared taking away territory from Poland with taking away territory from Germany, but you automatically interpreted it as something completely different. See, and that's exactly the problem with you "patriotic nationalists": you WANT to understand every remark and every critical view that doesn't agree with you as anti-Polish. That's just how you guys tick. Poland against the rest of the world. Us against them. The eternal victim. You remind me a little of the Tea Partiers here in the US. What they lack in the brains department, they compensate with blind patriotism/ nationalism.

Your personal anti-Polish views

So it's anti-Polish to say that you are not a Pole when the last person in your family that set foot on Polish soil lived 125 years ago? Are you serious? Oh, I forgot - that imaginary tie that connects you to the old country into all eternity. My apologies to the evangelicals amongst us, but may I remind you that we all come from Africa? Do you feel that strong bond with Kun*ta Kinte as well?

...are not shared by the Polish government or by Poles or by Polonia

By how many Poles exactly, and by how many members of Polonia? Or were you actually saying that my views are not shared by ultra right-wing nationalists such as yourself? Looks like, doesn't it? :)

No you haven't but the title of my thread certainly does.

Whatever floats your little boat, my friend...

Perhaps if you take these ideas in the context they are written in you will understand.

Fair enough, but the same would be true for the Germans for example who lost a lot of their territory after the war. These events happened 70+ years ago, Szalawa, and most of the people who lived through WW2 are long gone. Someone who's 80 or 90 years old can of course dream of his or her old home country, but someone who was born in the 1990's can not in my opinion.

anger or hate are one of them

In moderation, Nathans. Unfortunately, anger and hate on PF has crossed a certain line lately, and ... before you mention it ... I'm well aware of the fact that I did, too, on occasion.

Polonophobic abuse and anti-Polish propaganda

Examples, please. What you and a handful of PF members consider anti-Polish, might be seen as legit criticism or a valid point for discussion by most others.

If members on PF want to discuss Polish-Ukrainian history and explain their position of seeing a need to reconcile past events that does not make them xenophobic brownshirts

But if someone would dare to discuss the legality of Stalin giving German lands to Poland, that person would of course be a xenophobic brownshirt, right?

Poles and Polonia...

... are not the same. Born and raised in Poland? You're a Pole. Born in Poland, raised in the US? You're an American with (most likely) dual citizenship. Great great grandpa born in the German, Austrian-Hungarian or Russian Empire, you born in the USA 100 years later? You're an American and will never be a Pole. Simple as that.

don't see why you even post on PF

Explained to you and others on many occasions. Why are you here? Feeling the urge to defend the ultra right-wing cause? ;)

silence the diversity of opinions expressed by Poles and Polonia because they don't conform to their own extreme and foreign leftist narrative

If this "diversity of opinions" of yours includes the dream of taking back western Ukraine, denying or belittling the Holocaust, xenophobic rants and other assorted brownish crap, then why are you so surprised that your ideas are opposed?

Polonophobic abuse and anti-Polish propaganda

World's smallest violin, dude. But it's certainly okay for members of the American Polonia and very few (!) real Poles to be rabidly anti-Russian, anti-British, anti-American, anti-French, anti-German, anti-Israeli, ... , right? Free speech for the xenophobes. You sure know your rights, don't you? LOL!

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

do YOU really know ?

That's the point, Johnny. I don't know, and neither do you.

I base my conclusion on every (100%) Polish person that I have been in contact with on the issue.

How many of the 38 million Poles do you know personally to come to that conclusion, and how far right do these people stand politically? Statistically, you would need a lot more than 100 to come up with a halfway correct result.

until Adrian who has family living all over the country of Poland confirmed that the Polish DO NOT accept the LGBTLMOP.

So if one person tells you, it must be true? I tell you that Poland is a colony of Malta, and that Texas will be turned into a parking lot very soon... :)

Maybe Poland's population is split 50/50 on that issue if you ask them in private. Do you really know?

Life / Is it safe for Indians, Sikhs living here in Poland? Any Temple / Gurudwara in Wroclaw? [159]

Why would I? The explanation seems to be rather simple: unlike you, the editors of Radio Poland don't believe that Bodnar is "not any "Human Rights Ombudsman" but an operative of a previous regime that got this ****** "job" just weeks before lost elections and he got it in order to spread Polonophobic propaganda about "rising fascism in Poland" .

Terese, try the civil registration records instead. If they weren't destroyed during the war, they should be available at the state archive that is in charge for the area.

Polonophobic

Not sure about Bodnar's background, but if Radio Poland found it necessary to report it then there must be at least something to it. I don't believe that they simply broadcast "Polonophobic propaganda", as you say, without checking the facts first. You don't see a state owned institution like Radio Poland publicly criticizing Poland very often.

I'm saying that people "get attacked" each and every day.

Very true. Even Radio Poland and Poland's Human Rights Ombudsman Adam Bodnar have noticed:

Hate speech against foreigners has increased over recent months, and "racial" beatings happen on average once a week or every two weeks

I mean honestly Poland, Eastern Europe and even Central Asia is starting to look more and more promising each day.

Don't know about your chances in Poland or further east, but Singapore and Japan are quite nice. Taiwan and South Korea are rather difficult for long noses - at least in my experience.

I'm simply fed up with living in the US

Tsk, tsk. Have the hicks already given you that "if you don't like it, leave" speech? ;)

lower than they were at 2007 levels, at least here in Chicago and the suburbs

Not in my neck of the woods, fortunately. Home prices are approx. 80% above 2011 median sales price at the moment. I know though that a lot of people have been hit hard and are still suffering. Detroit is particularly bad, and some of the old burbs are completely deserted and taken over by nature again. Spooky, really.

property taxes

Yeah, you guys got the wrong end of the stick with a 2.32% tax rate. Ours is only 0.81% at the moment. Still to much since we also have the damn sales tax here in CA.

The dot com bubble didn't nearly have as hard of an impact on property values as the great recession.

But property values have bounced back big time and they are now higher than ever before. Not to forget that a lot of people have made a killing buying foreclosed properties during the recession.

Corporations that have been headquartered in the US for decades, even centuries, are increasingly moving abroad because quite frankly the taxes are too high.

I agree that taxes are too high, but the main culprit is again shareholder value. Profit above everything else. Corporations used to care about their employees, and I remember times when people used to stay with the same company from after college until retirement. That has all changed and been replaced with job insecurity and a workload per employee (also called "productivity") that literally kills. Did I mention that you have to be available 24/7 these days and weekends are not for the family anymore?

eastern Europe

Never mention Poland and eastern Europe in the same sentence, Adrian. Our resident PolAm Nazis will crucify you for that. LOL.

The US, up until the Great Recession, use to totally honor hard work, saving, climbing the corporate ladder, and being a financial success.

Nah, that stopped years before the Great Recession. In 2000/2001, to be exact, when the dotcom bubble burst and countless people lost their jobs and their savings. That was also the time when Jack Welch's concept of shareholder value really took over and corporate America stopped caring about the country and its people.

I don't see it as an all out assault on whiteys culture as you do. For me, PC (not to be mixed up with being nice!) is simply an unnecessary nuisance, a good idea gone seriously wrong. If I can't criticize someone without running the risk to get sued for hurting his or her little feelings, if black students need Safe Rooms to be "protected" from opposing views, or if basketball teams have to change their names and mascots because some tribe all of a sudden feels offended by its use, then something is seriously wrong with our society. There's no way to solve this dilemma because there will always be someone who is ticked off by something someone else is doing.

having pride in one's Catholic European roots is increasingly demonized

That has a very long tradition in the USA...

I guess hetero is no longer good enough.

There are always some idiots who are trying to come up with a new hype. Metrosexual, cissexual or one that always makes me laugh: cultural appropriation (if used in a negative way). Have you read about that black woman that attacked a white dude at SFSU because he was wearing dreadlocks, and accused him of cultural appropriation a few weeks ago? Douchebags.

Off-Topic / Did anyone see Prince in Warsaw? [8]

They are trying to hype Prince for profit the same way they did with Kurt Cobain. Prince as well as Nirvana are completely overrated in my opinion, and they are certainly not in the same league as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin or Jim Morrison, as the media wants us to believe. Had to turn off the news this morning because I couldn't stand that fake empathy anymore.
