News / 23 Shale Wells Drilled This Year Alone in Poland - 41 More to Go... [50]

your "thats business" comment can come back to bite you in the @ss

Fukushima is state owned and operated by a consortium who are not as far as I know criticised for unfettered capitalism. Be careful of your comments coming back and biting you all over.

Anyway, what's this got to do with hydrocarbons?

And do you understand the difference between deep and shallow fracking or know how long Poland (and the UK) have been doing it already?

Study / MBA in Poland for 40+ and older? [62]

But at the end of the day - if they're admitting people with such shockingly bad scores, then there's no chance of them going to Brussels!

Yes. I'm always half-amused, half-irritated when I see adverts on the bus in Poland for institutions that admit almost anyone and give 'degrees' that are near impossible to fail in subjects like Diplomacy and International Relations.

Study / MBA in Poland for 40+ and older? [62]

And Polish Matura is much much more difficult than British on advanced leve

That's one of the funniest things I've ever read here!

In Poland it is not easy to be admitted for tuition free studies . You need to pass with very high marks to get into popular faculties.

And this is also a barefaced lie!!

It has something to do with polluting our water supply in the name of profit Jon.

Read the above - the bit about shallow and deep reservoirs.

How would you explain the Fookushima

They're fracking there since when?

a single gay man hops from one country to another in the name of money and men.

For a change you've got something 25% right. Gay - yes and very happy about it, single - no, 'hops' from country to country - no, in search of money - I get a salary as do all workers, in search of men - no.

you have no direct family, you will never have children, you will not feel a sense of responsibility to those you love as a father would

Wrong on all three counts, which I suppose is par for the course for you

Back tracking

Back tracking how?

Your ignorance is disgusting.

Considering there's barely a truthful statement in your entire post and you seem to think that Fukushima is something to do with hydrocarbon extraction, it seems you were looking in a mirror when you wrote that.

I bet you and the other shareholders have had your grubby hands all over that one Warszawski, if the returns were there you'd be in no matter what, wouldn't you?

What's so wrong with that? And I suspect Warszawski's hands are immaculately clean.

the anti wind turbine crew along with local parish councils are enough to drive anybody mad.

This much I agree with. Those people just don't like other people making money. The industrial North has provided the UK with a very good living for centuries - now it's the Home Counties' turn to get the industrial landscape.

Ahh Jon where have you been hiding

Hiding? Now where might someone go for a fortnight in August? Answers on a postcard...

threatened anybody with court action lately?

If some online doylan accuses me of a crime connected with my work and it remains on the forum, they'll find it's a promise not a threat.

you have shares in Monsanto.

I just bought some in Halliburton too.

Travel / Zakopane in December (is it hotel-friendly?) [19]

n Poland it lasts for 3 or 4 months, let me remind you.

And people are used to that.

I can remove snow/ice from my elderly neighbour`s pavement once or twice throughout whole winter but not twice a week for 3 months.

Why not? I do.

The rigs are all over the country Jon, not just in the baltic. In fact there is a rig on the 'Zakopianka' about 6-7 klm before Zakopane I believe.

I did actually know that ;-)

The point I'm making, however, is that they've been doing it for ages in the offshore rigs they have in the Baltic Sea.

The danger is not fracking offshore reservoirs or even fracking deep onshore reservoirs - it is when (as happened in the US) they frack reservoirs closer to the surface.

One thing I always notice is when people just clear in front of their own house and never their neighbours'. Even if the neighbour is elderly or away from home.

Ayn Rand would be proud of such people.

The danger is the way it's licensed. If the licensed only permitted extraction from deep reservoirs there's no real danger. The Gasland film was about extraction from shallower reservoirs.

After all, Poland fracks anyway at its few Baltic rigs, and the UK has been doing it for decades offshore.

The biggest problem is that the licence holders will take whatever is in their sector, regardless of how near the surface it is.

Law / Tax on income from the UAE. British passport, Polish permanent resident. [11]

As others have mentioned better to seek qualified opinion with tax advisors dealing Poland/non EU.

Agreed.

The Centre of Interest comment from Harry is very important. The property you own plus the permanent residency (absolutely unneccesary by the way if you are a British citizen and frankly more trouble than it's worth) could possibly swing that against you in which case you should be very careful. You mentioned already that this money is savings, however the Urząd Skarbowy are unpredictable (interpretations of rules can vary wildly from branch to branch) and doubtless some of the money is recent income.

In your favour are the facts that the UAE and Poland do have a current double taxation agreement and that if you can establish that Poland isn't your "Centre of Interest" you can stay for up to 183 days per tax year without raising any income tax liability.

You would do very well to keep the money offshore, but as Warszawski and Harry etc say, GET PROFESSIONAL ADVICE.

That's business for you.

The state will get the licensing money. however since fracking isn't labour-intensive and transporting the energy relatively straightforward, there isn't much benefit from upstream production for the locals unfortunate enough to have it near their homes.

USA, Canada / Culture Shock.. my Foreign Import's 90 days in US [7]

What is food like in Poland? Paiwan seems to endorse that it is healthy and mostly free of extra materials. Is it so good?

It can be excellent, though many people's day to day diet isn't especially healthy or appetising and processed foods are big in PL. Even the sausage is processed food and laden with nasties. Life expectancy lags behind much of Europe and there are very high levels of stomach cancer.

The fruit and veg are good and cheap though.

Life / Polish disco-polo music makes comeback in Poland [20]

Only John was very late. Though a minority of scholars believe him to be early, and his stuff about the word made flesh predates the historical Jesus anyway.

BTW, There were far more than four evangelists. The four you get in the current version of your holy book is what all the disparate and argumentative beardies could finally agree offended the fewest of them at the Council of Nicea in (I think) CE 324.

How this fits with provincial '90s karaoke music is anyone's guess...

Life / What makes a man a Pole? what does it mean to be a Pole? [187]

One does not rule out the other.

Often that's exactly what it does. Aside from those who define themselves by who they are rather than who some of their relatives were.

Rootlessness can turn a person into a bit of flotsam, batterred by the winds of life and defenceless against fly-by-night commercial and ideological brainwashing.

That's just meaningless.

Life / What makes a man a Pole? what does it mean to be a Pole? [187]

I'm not arguing the fact that many Polonians are proud of their heritage, I'm sure they are, but they are not Polish if they weren't born there, they are of Polish descent.

Yes. It's a huge difference and there comes a time when a family who've emigrated need to decide whether they look to their past or their future.

Life / Hookah (shisha ) equipment and products in Poland [21]

Sometimes. I got into the habit in Sudan and used to go out for one several times a week in Qatar. I tend to do it rarely nowadays since shisha is even more carcinogenic than cigarettes. Nice once in a while.

BTW, it's quite fashionable in Poland, and a rash of shisha bars opened in Warsaw several years ago. I think the smoking ban put a stop to most of them though.

News / 100,000 new jobs for less qualified workers in Poland [13]

What, exactly, could the workers do?

Zilch, except for making a lot of noise which might merit a few minute's local tv coverage. People wanted capitalism, now they've got it. A shame, but their story is far from unusual.

And now he's making a fool of himself by getting all worked up about something he disagrees with that's already been shown on TV here.

Life / Hookah (shisha ) equipment and products in Poland [21]

Berlin is a cheap and short train ride from Poznań. Shisha tobacco is very easy to get there, in Kreuzberg and Neukolln. Charcoal for shisha can be found at any church supplier (there are several in Poznań); the disks they use for church incense are the same as the ones available in the Middle East for domestic use and work fairly well in a shisha.

Sounds a loon, especially since the tv show has already been aired in several countries including PL. Evidently he wants to end up a laughing stock.

The majority were never asked: Do you want a secular state?

There was a referendum. The people voted in favour of a secular state.
