Language / pronounce "Kocham Cię" [57]

Which is correct - or what is the difference in these two pronunications for "Cię"?

There's one. Don't confuse it with 'czy' or 'Ci' which are different words.

Cię sounds a bit like 'chyie'.

Work / Average IT salary in Poland [60]

That's still quite good. The average gross salary is around half that, and Bydgoszcz is not an expensive place to live.

Work / Average IT salary in Poland [60]

In Bydgoszcz that's quite a good wage. You should find a decent flat to rent for 2000 - 2500 (or less or more, depending on what sort of place you expect). That is a decent professional salary in provincial Poland and you should also be able to save money.

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

Old but very passable Armani jeans for approx. 10zl being my best buy, a total bit of beginner's luck that never repeated itself

Several years back I popped into one because it had some English language books in the window and spotted a very expensive suit in perfect condition for 20zl!. I used it for a couple of years and gave it to Oxfam, from where it may well end up in Poland again.

Poland came no where near recession, growth slowed to .5% In one quarter. And should finish at 1.5% For the year

Yes - that's far from recession. Poland also exports a lot of processed food. The key is that the zloty mustn't be too strong.

UK, Ireland / UK general student visit..from Poland. Applying for UK visiting visa? [13]

Tens of thousands of visitors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria will be forced to pay a £3,000 bond to be allowed to enter Britain.

It's an interesting idea, but it won't put off the wrong sort of people and will put off those who just want to have a better life.

UK, Ireland / Polish families' arson drama in London [10]

Merged: Polish man in UK jailed for arson after indoor barbeque

Don't try this at home folks...

Drunk man who wanted some sausages is jailed for arson after fire broke out when he started a barbecue in his sister's lounge
- Polish national ripped down doors to fuel the blaze in terraced house
- He was handed three years behind bars after pleading guilty to arson
A man who had been on a drinking binge nearly burned down his sister's home after lighting a barbecue in the front room to fry some sausages. Dariusz Garbacki started the fire in a disposable barbecue and poured lighter fluid on it to get it going.

Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

a divine principle

That assumes that such a principle exists.

homosexuals themselves are degenerate

As I remember, you recently disclosed here on this forum that you struggle with your sexuality which is in opposition to your political and religious views. This rather proves the point that the worst homophobes are themselves sexually confused and personally neurotic.

Liberals are so obsessed with their vision of individual "happiness" that i wouldn't be surprised if they attemped to normalize other forms of degeneracy, like zoophilia, or pedophilia.

I don't think there is any evidence that people who carry out those acts are politically liberal and indeed the most notorious of the latter in the UK was a staubch conservative.

Do you mean the mirror test by that?

The what?

Law / PESEL & NIP in Częstochowa? [10]

At long last. A very archaic system that serves no purpose.

If I remember, until very recently there was also the need to inform the same office if you were going abroad for more than three months!

Law / PESEL & NIP in Częstochowa? [10]

All you need to do (if you're the owner) is to take your Akt Notarialny to prove you are the owner and deregister them. Likewise to register someone at an address, the owner needs to show the Akt Notarialny.

And in any case, you can evict even if the tenant has a meldunek:

Interestingly, the owner can be fined if he or she does not register the tenant as living at that address.

Study / Polish schools and Polish educational system level in your eyes [135]

Very simply monia, you are lying, yet again. There is very simply no way that anybody is admitted to Cambridge after just a conversation.

That would be unheard of. there are two options for entry. The entrance exam which would shock most Polish people with doctorates or an exhaustive interview followed by a grade offer which would be for maximum grades only.

i dont think that would have been 'news' to be discovered by someone in the family were it true.
I expect you do not mean Cambridge University but perhaps UEA which has a campus in Cambridge.

Or even some private place with an office there.

Law / PESEL & NIP in Częstochowa? [10]

You don't need a PESEL - as far as I know, I've never had one. If however you want one, you can get one in Czestochowa.

A) He hasn't declared he is renting it out (tax avoidance)
B) Once you register at that address it would be almost impossible for him to evict you legally

It is possible to give someone a temporary zameldowanie, and in any case point B is incorrect - except in exceptional circumstances (usually involving children) the owner of a property can cancel a tenant's zameldowanie whenever they like. Tax and utilities are the usual reason for a landlord dragging their heels.

Food / Using Polish cooking books in an English version? [16]

I think using cooking books in any other language as your own is per definition is a challenge

Fun though.

I find American recipes to be a bit of a challenge because of measurements given in 'cups'. I've got loads of cups at home and they're all different sizes!

Food / Using Polish cooking books in an English version? [16]

I suppose there are the two genres of cookbook. One that's mostly a list of recipes, and one that you can sit down with and read as a book. My favourite cookbook writer Elizabeth David is somewhere between the two, though no Polish recipes in her books since she disliked Polish food.

UK, Ireland / English IP address to watch UK channels from Poland? [21]

Wondered if anyone else is using them or knew of a better company or way to view the channels?

HideMyA$$ (s, not $) is good, and Astrill has huge bandwidth so doesn't stop and start so much.

Both delicious.

possible environmental disasters related to fracking

You do realise that Poland and the UK have been deep fracking for decades without a Megatsunami. Or Godzilla rising from the Baltic and terrorising Gdynia. Or even one of the largest quakse in history (MMS9) which as I recall caused Fukushima.

Perhaps not...
