Life / Looking to immigrate to Europe. How is life in Poland? [116]

I've been living here for just over 7 years. I could read newspapers quite well in 2006, 2 years into my stay. It's a hard question as one is forever learning. You can get a firm grounding after 2 years if you apply yourself and are surrounded by supportive individuals.

News / PIS propaganda on Warsaw public transport [27]

Impotents can't have sex? Well I never ;)

If you accept that PO are going to win anyway, how is delph discussing politics here (it is a forum after all) in any worse a position?? So a Polish person with only a passing interest in politics votes for the weakest party out there and he's somehow in a better position than delph. Really??

Life / Looking to immigrate to Europe. How is life in Poland? [116]

She is an English teacher who works/worked in the same city as me. I don't know if she is still around.

Poland is mainly a country of flats but some of the houses here, esp the new ones, are stunning! Pardon me for asking but are you white or black? She is white and I think it is that bit easier for whites to fit in here. I'm not saying Poles are generally racist, far from it, but having white skin attracts far fewer gazes for the most part. Poland is much much safer than SA. Wendy (the SA lady) fully agrees.

2000E in Germany? That's really good! There's no way on Earth that the average salary is 8600PLN here. 3200PLN maybe but it's a blurry issue. That's excluding the embarrassing proliferation of jobs paying under 1000PLN here. They are not counted as the minimum is said to have been amended to 1500PLN.

Delph, the price of cars are skyhigh here. Property is prohibitively expensive for many folk. I guess Germans have cheaper options for meat&veg too. It just depends where you look. The average salary in German is a good bit higher than here. I didn't find the meat too expensive in Berlin and it is commercial central.

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

It doesn't come as a surprise, really. Still, Poland has to keep part of its traditional face. Privatisation is better in other areas.

PiS are just slogan bandits! They haven't a prayer. JK has a bad image and many vote based on that. No amount of wasted paper will change that.

Work / Italian man knowing multiple languages - any chance to find a job in Krakow? [4]

The best job is a blowj*b but it's not permanent ;) ;) Having skills is one thing but being in the right place at the right time is a different thing. Keep your ear to the ground and be in the right place when a relevant opportunity arises. Skills and talents can float in the breeze unless you put yourself where you want to be and get a bit of luck.

Life / Are Polish people so chaotic and disorganized like Germans say? [89]

He looks a bit like Putin, that Kamil Durczok fellow. Many Poles seem to know that they should stay calm (which aids organisation) but it's sometimes easier said than done. Unlike the Japanese, some Poles have a hard time biting their lip and leaving sth alone. They have to chip in with sth. Some can't even organise a pi*s-up in a brewery but it depends where you look. I respect the level of organisation in bureaucratic establishments.

You have to look at the impact of transitions between systems. Hungary, for example, looked like a fish out of water in times of capitalism. The organisation aspect proved hard for them simply due to a change in mindset and not so much to do with character. Ingrained attitudes are hard to shake off. I think we need to see things with that in mind. Poland is the same. Many have made the transition well and keep up to speed with organising their documents and schedules.
