History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

Well, I've read the full remark and it's been taken somewhat out of the context, quite possibly the same happened with the Iranian comment. Didn't mean to start a political/religious discussion, I thought it was funny, that's all.

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

All true.

I worry about Eyjafjallajökull volcano's big sister, Katla. They erupt VERY seldom but usually in tandem. It's estimated that a Katla eruption would be AT LEAST 10 times more powerfull!

This could be just a warm up...

...but according to an Iranian cleric if women dress more modestly we'll all be safe! LOL LOL LOL

PS. Yes, I know how to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull ;) Speaking Swedish does help; the languages are close enough.

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

The families needed to bury their dead.

I see your point but after all this was a national tragedy, not just a family tragedy. Not sure what the proper thing to do would've been but flying through the ash wasn't one of them. Glad Morocco delegation didn't have to worry about that (location) and made it in.

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

not to attend the funeral of late Polish president Lech Kaczyński.

With all due respect as an airline pilot I disagree with your contention.

First of all Morocco was not in the path of the ash (a previous post points it out, the ash coverage map which changes by the hour).

Second of all, would you still call it bravery if all three engines of the Falcon were to flame out and the front windshields became impossible to see through? [ash is like glass/diamond particles which sand-blast the windshields]

The reason airlines are as cautious as the are is because of previous incidents.

Here is a British 747 which lost all 4 engines and miraculously restarted one or two at a much lower altitude; they didn't think they were even close to the ash.

...

Yes, I'm glad they were able to attend. However, they didn't put anyone else "to shame" as their geographical location was in their favor. I am certain that had Morocco been located farther north they would not attend.

I wish the funeral had been delayed by a week or so. In my view that'd have been the smartest thing to do.

PS. Off the subject - I've only been to Morocco one and it seemed to be a very lovel country and the food and the hospitality was absolutely great.

Life / What Polish people think about the Italian and Spanish men? [39]

MarciQM - so you're an Italian exchange student in the UK?

Please don't take it the wrong way but is it possible that your fairly "basic" English skills might be a turn-off to those girls? After all, they probably want to pick up as much "proper English" as possible while there.

I'm not trying to pick on you, this is just my own speculation based on what I heard from our neighbor's daughter. She went to France to study French and said she'd avoid all Americans, Brits, Germans, etc. and instead tried to spend as much time as possible with the "natives."

Maybe she had other reasons too, what do I know ;)

However, that's the story she gave us.

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

On another note: Isn't it a little odd that armed soldiers (?), NKVD (?) were already at the crash site, even before emergency crews? Or do armed Russians lurk at every Russian airport, waiting for crashes to occur? Just a thought... nobody have a fit, please.

NKVD? Blast from the past... NKVD had been renamed to KGB looong time ago, then it was renamed to FSB.

Just try to get into a US airforce base and you'll see how many "armed Americans are lurking there." LOL

As far Russia claiming the Patriot missilies in Poland are a threat to their security - total hogwash. That's like a bank robber saying guards wearing bullet-proof wests are a threat to his/her security. Sasha - Poland is no longer in the Russian influence zone and never will be again! Even with a weak, Russia pleasing president we have. Get used to it!

PS. Still luv ya though! ;)

USA, Canada / A questionnaire about smile and laughter in the US [13]

Hello :)

big favour to ask to all of the American people here!

I'd be glad to do it under 2 conditions.

1) You'll spell favor correctly - just keeding here, I know Poles are in love with the Anglo-French way of spelling English. LOL

2) You'll share your findings with us.

It's interesting you're doing research on this subject. Since I travel a lot I often mention this to my parents how differently people seem to be interacting with each other in other countries. Even in the US there are stark differences between let's say Northeast and the Southern states.

When I moved to the States many moons ago I remember calling my mom one day proclaiming - Mom, I love this country! All the ladies are smiling when I look at them... LOL

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

Just to give people an idea of what the pilots were dealing with - here's a video of a landing in Zurich with 175m visibility to ILS cat IIb standards.

Based on the number of lights it looks like 500-600RVR or 175 meters. Pretty "standard" low viz approach.

I definitely see the point you're trying to make but I wouldn't go as far as saying "What on earth were the pilots thinking?" because you and I weren't there, we don't have all the details yet and the actual findings might point in a totally different direction. We simply don't know just yet...

Personally, I can't see any signs of a conspiracy as of yet but we'll have to wait and see...

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

Quick reply via my iPhone:

You're correct, fog can never be taken for granted. The initial video might not show "thick fog" to the person on the ground but it probably looked much different from above while traveling at let's say 160 knots. Don't know TU-154's final approach speed but 160kts is very feasible and if so that's almost 300km/h.

As far as cell phone and camera restriction - standard procedure at our military bases in case of incidents. Cell phones because most have cameras in them...

I can't believe I'm defending the Russkies on this thread. ;)

PS.
Convex's posts in general and the reply #768 regarding this very issue is spot on.

Love / Opinion from Polish men on this please (Polish men so 'spiritually' romantic?) [43]

I thank you in advance for entertaining my Qs.

So what's the latest? Hope thing are going well. I wouldn't make any assumptions on what Polish men are like but rather on how the particular person is. We're all so different...

A friend of mine has an "artistic"profession, he's a musician. He is a base player and drummer in a band, yet he hates "art" and when he doesn't play music he plays computer games or works on his house. I have a very technical job - fly airplanes for a living yet a love poetry and enjoy art galeries. (mom paints).

Had an outsider looked into our presumed interests, personalities, etc. he/she would've been dead wrong. So as clichè as it sounds just listen to your own heart.

Is *SKYSOULMATE* around, does anyone know? If he is, can he help? He flies passenger planes which is exactly what the Tup was. It's not a ground-to air-craft--like helicopters.

Just logged on and saw this post. In my recurrent training as we "speak" so I'm pretty busy. I'll try to reply later this evening but will have to go through all the replies and questions... It'd make it easier if you could summarize the question(s). Never flown Tupolevs; in my civilian flying I have some Airbus time but mainly heavy Boeings. However an airplane is an airplane...

Also, could someone summarize the "Georgia" incident and I think there was another incident involving Polish military pilots? Ideally I'd like to hear the Polish NTSB's versions of what happened... (National Transportation Safety Board - the US aviation safety investigation arm, not sure what the Polish organization is called)

Law / Kaczyński doubts the Euro currency will survive [49]

There is NO WAY that America would have allowed 9/11, NO WAY. All those screw-ups were no coincidence. It was all on the table before as Aaron Russo said.

Most of your posts are very inteligent. The last nonsensical garbage belongs in some Hamas propaganda "we are peaceful people" bombing. Unbelievable... Now I'm just waiting for an input from Piłsudski "proving" the Jews did it...

Love / I am attracted by a polish guy. But it seems he has a girl friend. [8]

You'll never know until you ask. Yeah, I too get shy around women BUT I also know that women don't mind feeling attractive and attention from others usually brings that feeling.

The same applies to us, guys. At the very least he will take it as a compliment someone was interested in him... I know I would.

As far as his work habits - pretty common, many immigrants tend to be workoholics...

Next time you see him say "dzien dobry" (good day, hello). It'll make him smile...

USA, Canada / Polish people in Alaska [41]

Well, frankly, I'm scared too - that's why I'm going to visit in the summer :). That way I'll be able to go anywhere in Alaska because I won't depend on the weather...

Paweł - I am in Anchorage about twice a month and usually spend a few days there each time. As far as the winter - if you've ever been to Stockholm, Sweden (I'm raised in Sweden) then you know the winter climate in Anchorage. It's probably a few degrees colder in ANC then in ARN and more snow but overall it's very nice. Since it's on a coastline the climate is much milder in Anchorage than people think. Fairbanks is a very different story (they've had +99F and - 99F or +37'C and -73'C)

Overall it's a beatiful place. Don't know your budget but I'd recommend an Alaska cruise (on a ship - alaskacruises.com/alaskacruises.asp), sightseeing via train - wpyr.com, or to rent an airplane and see it from above. If 4-5 people share the cost it's managable - talonair.com.

Law / Kaczyński doubts the Euro currency will survive [49]

On the WTC's.

Wow, yeah I forgot... Of course, what was I thinking...

Pilots at my previous airline slashed their own throats because they all planned the 911. Oh, did I mention they were all Jews!? Terrorism from within is nothing new, after all a Polish conspiracy pre-planned the German invasion in 1939 and let the German soldiers murder and rape their own. Likewise, the Soviet soldiers in Katyń were actually the victims themselves as a Polish upper class (Jews I'm sure) government conspiracy forced them to kill all the Poles. ...and the UK supplied the Argentinians with weapons and even plans for their own invasion just so they could be attacked by the Argentinians.... The list goes on and on...

New PF motto - Conspiracy Theorists Unite...

Euro stuff I agree with you on, the other stuff - wow!

PS. - can someone explain to me how the google adds got into my reply? I didn't include any links...

Law / Kaczyński doubts the Euro currency will survive [49]

What omission are you talking about? I'm confused...

Also, are you implying that our (the US) government knew something about the European issues when they miscalculated our own 10 year budget deficit by more than 1.2 trillion dollars? Hmm, either you're giving our government too much credit or I'm underestimating it... Not sure who's right.

As far as Amero - that' a total myth. No politician involved in the monetary policy in the US, Canada or Mexico has ever suggested it and if he/she did it'd be a political suicide. I predict that 100 years from now there's still no Amero (of course by then we're all using the Renminbi - Red China's "People's Money).

There are plans to phase in the Emero but that is way down the line.

Do you mean Amero? If so that's a total hoax. Nothing is "planned" but it's often brought up by conspiracy theorists (I do not mean you), the kind of people who believe 9/11 was a government plot, or a Jew plot, or a drug cartel plot, and Obama is not an American citizen, etc., etc. The US will join the EU before we get the Amero - in other words it'll never happen.

USA, Canada / My boyfriend is being deported to Poland because his US visa expired, help needed [53]

Frankly I'm hoping for a third - a new party but who knows? So far 12 states have filed lawsuits against the new health care bill, including some democratic states. It'll be interesting and I have a feeling in a year and a half it will be repealed or totally revamped.

Here's a non-partisan assesement of the TARP/foreclosure program's wasteful government spending. "Health care bill" will be much more wasteful.

cnnmoney.mobi/money/lt_ne/lt_ne/detail/203280;jsessionid=8D0429D986AB4C9F772EA65C32B1407B.money4

Yeah, the overstaying visa part - right after Solidarity came to power there've been several massive waves of Poles coming over. The decrease in overstaying visas you saw was when Poles were allowed to work legally in most of the EU states. Closer AND all legal.

USA, Canada / My boyfriend is being deported to Poland because his US visa expired, help needed [53]

I guess I don't follow. Poland and several other countries did not meet the requirements so they're not part of the VWP. Czech Republic did - so they're part of VWP (I think?).

When it comes to the illegal immigration from Mexico INS can't even attempt to control it so they try to control what's "easy to control". Besides, La Raza, ACLU, etc. like to defend the Latino immigrants but they don't care much for the European immigrants - reverse rasism I guess.

People flying in versus those jumping the fence are easier to track and to control. Is it right? No. But I don't see an anti-Polish or a pro-Czech conspiracy. Fewer of them overstay their visa because historically most Czechs come to Germany rather than the US whereas there's a huge Polish community in the US which often is a magnet for others to come, including those who break the law.

Same link again:

"...Poland was omitted largely because it failed to meet the required rate of visa refusals. This rate is considered an indicator of how many applicants plan to overstay their tourist visas and possibly work in the U.S. without permission. Currently, in order to participate in the VWP, a country's visa refusal ratehas to be less than 10%.

In 2008, Poland had a 13.8% visa refusal rate, which actually was considered a big success since only a year earlier it was almost twice as high.

USA, Canada / My boyfriend is being deported to Poland because his US visa expired, help needed [53]

...The criteria was different for Poles than that for people from other CEE countries. I don't have a problem with tight controls, but why apply them so unevenly?

What makes you say that? I have heard that more Poles would overstay their visas than let's say Czechs because Poles simply had more relatives, friends, etc. in the US which helped them in finding jobs. Had the Czechs had the same overstaying rate I think they too would've been excluded from the VWP.

USA, Canada / My boyfriend is being deported to Poland because his US visa expired, help needed [53]

I'd still like to see that statistic.

I don't know this website but it came up in my search. From what I heard (and the article seems to support it) Poland's "overstay rate" has been dropping to almost the minimum required level when Poland (and many other countries that aren't part of the VWP) got caught up in a change of the law agreed upon by both republicans and democrats which in effect makes reaching the new goal or limit even harder.

"...Currently all but five European Union member countries participate in the VWP. In addition to Poland, which joined the EU in 1999, the other exceptions are Greece, Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria.

Many Eastern European countries, such as the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia, were accepted into the program in November 2008. Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said at the time that the decision was "a removal of the last relic of Communism and the Cold War."

Poland was omitted largely because it failed to meet the required rate of visa refusals. This rate is considered an indicator of how many applicants plan to overstay their tourist visas and possibly work in the U.S. without permission. Currently, in order to participate in the VWP, a country's visa refusal rate has to be less than 10%.

In 2008, Poland had a 13.8% visa refusal rate, which actually was considered a big success since only a year earlier it was almost twice as high.
Moreover, nowadays fewer Poles seem interested in coming to the U.S. Instead, some look for employment within the EU, where many countries have opened their job markets to Polish citizens..."

feetin2worlds.wordpress.com/2009/05/28/goal-of-visiting-the-u-s-without-a-visa-still-eludes-poles/

People that overstay their visas are sh*tting in the pool. They are completely f*cking Poles who follow the rules. It's criminal. Confiscate their property and sell it to cover the cost of deporting them.

Nonetheless, I still would like to see the overstay estimate numbers.....

See your point but I think we need to improve our border enforcement and our tracking system first. The system is biased and favors mexicans due to their proximity to the US amongst many other things.

USA, Canada / My boyfriend is being deported to Poland because his US visa expired, help needed [53]

Well, why don't you? ...and I'm confused, are you supportive of what her boyfriend did - which is of course why so many Poles get their visas denied - or are you not?

The way I understand it they simply use statistics. If in the last year 10, 20 or whatever percentage of Poles (or whatever nationality) overstayed their visa than they'll derive a percentage of how many "high-risk" Poles will be denied. So if the majority of those overstaying are let's say single men in their 20s then that's the demographic they'll target - not only them but primarily that group.

Not saying it's right or wrong just that honest people are punished by the actions of the dishonest people. Likewise honest Mexicans may not participate in the green card lottery because of the dishonest Mexicans.
