I have worked in the NHS a number of years and if you move from one organisation to another you keep the same email address.

first you say this , Hazel... and then you say...

I do work for the NHS

i would say, make your mind up. do you work for the NHS or not? or are you moonlighting in your spare time?

Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

decimated by uneducated troglodytes which the Mugabe welcomed into those areas in his racist hatred act in forcing out white farmers, seeing what he has done to his country he has asked them back

Mugabe was never in power in South Africa - what are you talking about?

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

Engkish press 1, for Spanish press 2.... I think if that was done in the UK (for Polish press 2) it would really freak many Brits out.

well in parts of the UK, for example there is 1. for Welsh press one, 2. for English press two.....and that is bad enough...
If they did it with all the different languages spoken in the UK, by volume, there would be a stupidly long list...

Language / I need to be encouraged to properly study this beautiful language - Polish [8]

" Real motivation comes from need. If you truly need the language, you'll be motivated to learn it. "

how true, Dominic. Without need , there will be no 'meaningful input' (Krashen) and therefore no learning.
Anyway its a bit negative to say 'oh i want to learn this language but it's so hard' - kind of shooting yourself in the foot before you even started.

I remember when I was working in Greece, a lot of the English girlies would go '''oooh it's soooooo difficult' before they had even started.

they thought my mate was really clever because he had learnt some. The truth was that he was a tight fisted drunkard, so spent a lot of time sourcing cheap drinks, and sitting in old man bars, listening to the TV and to the conversation.....later lying in bed drunk with the TV on....

OP in your situation, I would replace/fix the things that you can, and then tell her to do one.
Was there not a deposit?

Life / Immigration Free Poland is Not Being Racist [194]

White countries ?

but 'the states' is not a 'white country' is it?
No in fact it was a 'brown' country until whitey invaded, and then it was built off black slavery. And now it as much a black country as a white one. Just saying.

Travel / What is your opinion of Gorzów Wielkopolski? [11]

I wonder if it feels a bit soul-less because it was a German town until relatively recently. The German people there at the end of the war had to flee before the advancing Red Army, as I am sure people know.

There is a good book by Christa Wolf about this time called A Model Childhood.
I wonder what this area was like after the German people had left but before the people came from the East to re-populate it.
Apparently a lot of the German people thought they were coming back so they buried and hid stuff.
Another place that would be interesting to have a little dig is 'the Seelow Heights' between Berlin and Gorzow.

Travel / What is your opinion of Gorzów Wielkopolski? [11]

it's in the 3rd league of Polish cities.

that does seem a bit harsh,
There are excellent transport links to Berlin,
In fact if you are going to Gorzow, the quickest way is via Berlin.
Once I flew to Poznan to get there, and it was a pain in the a@@

Travel / What is your opinion of Gorzów Wielkopolski? [11]

Yes I spent some time there and have since visited on a few occasions.
In fact my children's babcia lives there. Tbh it always seemed a bit soulless to me.
It has some lovely 'jugendstil' (sorry dont know the word in Polish) architecture that you can see on some old apartment blocks.
When I first went there it was a crowded town, with a posh restaurant and a milk bar on the town square. They are both gone now, as is the market, and an awful lot of the people.

It seems like the kind of place where all the young people have now left. When I say young I mean 21 - 50.

Life / Transferring foreign drivers license in Poland [10]

what does it take to swap it for a polish licence?

start honing your Polish driving skills.
Learn how to check if its OK to overtake by pulling out into the other lane first to have a good look.
Drive the wrong way down a motorway a few times.
Veer wildly from one lane to the other as you please.
After this you could possibly apply for a Polish driving licence.
