Language / Indian-Polish Accent. :P [26]

True, or maybe I'm just hearing it wrong.

No, i'm sure we are both hearing the same thing. i'd say she needs to relax and stress the ending.

a good video though. however, u won't catch me making one.

Language / Indian-Polish Accent. :P [26]

Is this an error or is the latter also common in Poland?

i think it be might be a case of nerves at the beginning of the video.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

I've been going to the Wong Kei for 21 years but I wouldn't take a date there, lol

i love that place. you are told to sit, told to order, the tea is free...

strange, it must be 21yrs since i was last there. and the name i find amusing.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

If I could find Polish fast food from a nearby restaurant I would go there all the time. Someone should do this.

i would never have thought people could be bothered, but today lunch came from a Polish takeaway. it works here. it might work there.

Language / Czech language sounds like baby talk to most Poles. Similarities? [222]

I learned the Czech language from their TV

i imagine 20yrs ago and more that quite a few learned some czech from tv in these parts. in the days before canal + etc.

i watched it for english movies with subtitles and then later there was a childrens quiz show, which i sort of understood.

i've no idea what programmes are available on sat tv these days.

Life / Feasibility and cost of a bicycle in Krakow? [13]

it's perfectly feasible to ride a bike on snow

it's ok to ride on the first fall of snow, but you're more likely to slip on the second fall. the top layer of snow will slip on the bottom layer. cornering is the problem.

Life / 'Turkish' Conmen on the A4/E40 Krakow-Wrocław stretch.... [25]

Not really, but if they do, they'll be clearly marked if they want to pull you over. In general though, unmarked cars are pretty rare in Poland - it's unlikely that they'd just be patrolling on the motorway for the hell of it.

i'd argue that there are loads of unmarked police cars.

News / Why Is French On Poczta Parcel Waybills? [13]

I can only guess that par avion is on air-mail letters because the French perhaps pioneered the service.

i haven't noticed par avion for quite some time. priorytet is usually stamped on letters for quick/urgent mail, which includes air mail.

correct me, if i'm wrong.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

We make sweeping statements like "Poles are never wrong" because it's quicker and easier than saying "a significant number of Poles refuse to accept responsibility for their mistakes more frequently than one would expect."

i said something similar in another thread, but of course internet warriors are blind to the obvious.

Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

But apparently if a group of Polish skinheads get drunk and try for a fight, its alright since we were English.

that works both ways.

i've been in plenty of barroom brawls. all in england. it's what some folk do, whatever the country.

u got caught out and that's all there is to it. try middlesbrough or newcastle on a saturday night ffs

Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

I just find it a bit weird that Polish people in Krakow dont like British people or tourists?

you've caught the backlash after cheap flights and stag dos. it's said that some folk in some cities are fed up with weekend tourists.

there are also a$$holes who spoil for a fight. it seems u bumped into this group.

Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

So after about 10 minutes they got a bit violent and started to push me, my friend wanted to leave and was worried

They told us they didnt like black people and were talking about 'black people stealing in london' during the riots

u are about to enter a bout of fisticuffs, but instead choose to debate on ethnicity of rioters.

things have changed since my day.

'We dont like black people'.

It is tidy compared to Liverpool, my home city.

an obvious mistake in defining the accent. the guy had u down as west midlands and obviously said 'we don't like black country people'

Life / Worlds most liveable cities (Krakow or Warsaw don't even hit the radar screens) [104]

Warsaw, claims that nearly 25 percent of the city is covered in beautiful trees, shrubs, and greenery.

wroclaw is the greenest city in Poland

I believe Berlin makes the claim that it is the greenest city in Europe.

it probably is as it has a forest within the city boundries.

berlin and wroclaw are similar in terms of greenery.

Real Estate / What area to live in Wroclaw? I prefer to spend about 1600-1900 per month on renting. [19]

I'm looking for some advice on where to live, what are the nice areas etc.

most people look for a place that's convenient. a 'nice' area can be near a park, shops, modern buildings etc. there are many nice areas within old parts of the city.

the area i live in is not regarded as the best part of town, but locals have access to most things, which makes it a nice place to live.

when u find a part of wroclaw or address that appeals to u let us know and i and others can give u an opinion of the area.
