Off-Topic / Some Kurdish and Polish Similarities [53]

But we do borrow, thats where the spelling differences come in, we just accommodate wouldnt you agree? Does it really matter? Many words in the "English" lanaguge are from other nations...We are an Island that was inhabited by many different Europeans..Romans, French, German and Scandinavian (all made an impact on our language, but took away our native tongue) and we colonised and "borrowed words..We also have words such as veranda which is an India word..The Oxford English Language dictionary is a mix of words from around the globe.

What a breath of fresh air to have an inertesting thread :D

Off-Topic / Some Kurdish and Polish Similarities [53]

Hungarian 'haz' - English 'house' (same meaning exactly..)

I noticed this when I visited terror haza in Budapest...Languages have cross overs. Furious is a Nordic word..but we use it daily in the English language ;0)

Telephone
ambulance
Police

All the above are used in all countries but with varied spellings.

As a nation, yes. (Due to sheer size.) Per capita? Sorry, but we contribute more.

Are you sure - look at the figures

No, it's typical to demand something from others, when you're not prepared to do it yourself. Very typical.

We didnt want a single currency, hence the reason we still have the £...Demand is a strong word..The union is set up now so that new members accept the Euro because the founders feel that a single currency is the way foward for a unified eurozone.

My beef is that I can't afford a house while I'm working for my money in a perfectly honest way.

Same situation in the UK, rising immigration (Netherlands has a denser population than the UK.. I feel for you) means less housing stock, which means higher house prices..

Hey, I can't say I blame you, I would love to have my Gilder back aswell! I remember being part of our society about 10 years ago. Now I feel like unwelcome and alienated in my own country. I know some spoiled people will disagree with me because they don't know what it's like to live like this, but I call it financial oppression.

I empathise with you...Be thankful you still have your Royal family though...So many European countries dont have that ;0) A lot of nations knock this but to be honest, its part of who we are and long may that continue, its part of our tradition!

You know what Grk (Greek) means in Serbian language, on most archaic Slavic language?

GRK (Greek) is same what is GORAK = bitter in Eng.

Crow is like the father of the woman on "My Big Greek Wedding" if anyone has seen it they will know what I mean! :D

Life / Is grumbling a Polish attribute? [24]

It's fashionable to grumble here. Some have turned it into an art form.

Whilst the Brits are famous for getting on with it...We do love a good moan..In fact, if its an art form in Poland we could decorate the Tate Modern (have you seen the size of that place?) with ours in Britain! There isnt one developed nation that doesnt moan..We love it..It makes life almost worth living.

The weather
Politics
Why are all the prawns In tesco from Indoneasia
Why are all the tomatoes from everywhere but England
Why does the person next to me on the bus smell
Why the person next to me on the bus take up half my seat too
Why are mortages so expensive
Why
Why
Why
Why
Why
Why

In infinate! And we love it!!!

Sorry Poland...You dont have a monopoly on moaning..we all do it and to an extent we enjoy it ;0)

Travel / Dinner place suggestion in Krakow [17]

There are so many lovely places to eat in the Kazimierz district..I wish I could remember the place I eat at the first time I went there...Its an Italian and on a little square, very light interior...But there's also a nice Italian on Grodzska which I have to admit has fantastic service and wonderful food..

Love / Dating a Polish guy for three years. Will he ever marry me? [44]

Even being married wont stop him leaving if he wants to..its just a piece of paper..nothing more..

As for not getting married in Poland..This is probably because his family dont know about you...

Great. So on top of being patronizing, now you decided to add insults and prejudices. Nice gal you are.

What was prejudice about my comment? Where was I patronising you? Oh, dont make snide comments luv and you wont get them in return!

Then why can't they be "resilient and hard-working" in Poland, and turn Poland into a world economic power in the process? Exactly, they can't be... which is why so many go abroad and work in businesses created by others.

True.

Still contributing more than the Dutch..Our recovery is on the up and debt will clear in time..

Typical.

Not typical, its the truth..I dont even know what your beef is, we didnt want a single currency...Have a go at those that did..We're happy with our £ and long may it continue, Id hate to lose that kind of identity..

It wasnt even in existence when we joined and we didnt have to accept it when it was brought in because we were in a position to say no, new member states are not in a position to say no, it is part of their terms and conditions if they want to join the EU, it's simple really, if countries dont like the Ts&Cs dont sign up! Britain is a large financial contributer to the EU (4th largest I think) so they can demand what they like really.

Unclear what you mean about Criteria, care to clarify this?

I'm a sweetie, but not your sweetie - I don't swing that way. Sorry.

Its a term one can use with both male and female! Oh and If I was swinging that way Id be more likely to go for a Scandinavian chick, better looking and less likely to fleece me :D

i'm not singling you out amathyst, i have no beef with you personally

None with you either, I just dont understand why everyone keeps referring to Europe as one country..there are a few that are sinking, some are recovering and some are doing just fine..

The Brits don't have the Euro as their currency, and they don't even want the Euro as their currency.

We were rich enough to get in without having demands put on us.

Lets see: Germany has 73.2% of consolidated debt (% of GDP),

And Germany are the ones who are putting up the most cash for the bail out..they evidently dont have that many problems, they're also not slashing government jobs and salaries like other member states are having to do..It might pain you to think that Germany are okay..but its a fact, they were in recovery in the third quarter of last year. Ask BB how his country are doing?

I had no idea, Einstein. EU as a whole is in trouble.

You can take whatever tone you like with me sweetie, but Im not the one who keeps referring to a continent being in trouble when in fact there are several countries on that continent that are doing just fine and several more who on theri road to recovery.

As for the EU being in trouble - Is it really? Is that why Germany are doing just fine, why France are fine and a whole host of other countries are on the road to recovery - some Southern European countries who were not really ready in the first place to receive the Euro but were greedy and didnt think the whole thing through (unlike the Czech Rep who have put it off for another 8 years!) have fallen flat on their faces due to bad management of their poor economies (they weren't that great before the Euro)..You see...If we let poor countries in we have to expect problems in the long term!

please compare The United States of America to communist eastern europe. i'd love to see the similarities you speak of.

Never been to the States but I can tell you that Eastern European countries are no different to Northern European countries, on the whole - Errm Its not actually under communism any more either.

So Europe is OK because US is in similar trouble? Your denial is the best illustration of the problem.

You keep saying Europe - its a continent, not one country, Germany are doing just fine and hoepfully now the elections are over and some firm policies are put place, GREAT Britain will be on its way to recovery:

Communist Countries
Country Population

1. China 1,330,040,064
2. Cuba 11,424,000
3. Laos 6,677,530
4. Korea, North 23,479,100
5. Vietnam 86,116,600

Would you live in one of these countries?

aneki.com/communist.html

What? China is a communist country which happens to be a republic.

It would appear so.

I think Europe is about to wake up and realize that we just can't live on borrowed money forever. Those wonderful social programs - we can't afford them anymore. I wonder which party in any country will have the guts to say it first and start scrapping them out and ... survive the next election. Very interesting times.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

When the government spends more than it receives in tax revenue, it borrows the rest by issuing US Treasury Securities. The United States public debt, or the national debt, is the sum of all these outstanding securities.[1] It should not be confused with the trade deficit, which is the difference between net imports and net exports. State and Local Government Series securities, issued by state and local governments, are not part of the United States government debt.[2]

At the end of first quarter of 2010, the gross debt was 87.3% of GDP, of which 56.6% was held by the public, and 44.4% was intra-governmental.[3] Within the remainder of this article the phrase "Public Debt" is employed as a shorthand for "Debt Held by the Public".

Sorry what were you saying? China owns America :D

Look at how 'socialist' Labour fared

They were never socilasts!!!! - labour councils have sent everything out to tender to private companies - they no longer have the "direct works" - I think they called it streemlining, it certainly isnt socialism..They took up where the Concervatives left off and sold everything off!!

If you are to look at the 'ideal' system of equality,

It doesnt exist, look at China? look at North Korea?

There were so many greedy bast*ards in communism.

Of course they could control the wealth and those beneath were unable to climb, whereas with capitalism a man from a working class background can become a millionair!

Socialism is a noose on Europe's neck.

Doesnt actually exist in Europe, just because we believe that everyone has a right to free health care, doesnt mean we believe that everyone should be equal, we believe if you work hard you can make something of yourself.

there will not be Euro zone on 1 January 2011, the house of cards will collapse

Please explain why, I'm dying to know?

Socialism is fairer than the capitalistic system, lets please agree on this one.

To whom? Its not fair on someone who asperations and the willingness to change their circumstances.

My brother is a socialist (been a member of the SWP for over 25 years) - he lives in a very nice 4 bedroomed house, both him and his wife drive nice cars and when their daughter couldnt get a place in a school of their choice they were going to send her to private school...we call him a "silk shirt socialist" ...As I have said there is no such thing as a socialist!

the point of the exercise is that no matter what system you believe in there will always be the small percentage of people who will do well and the majority will have to support the rich or ones better off.

Hmmm...let me think,

Year 2010-11

Basic rate: 20% £0-£37,400
Higher rate: 40% £37,401-£150,000
Additional rate: 50% Over £150,000

There are plenty of people earning over £150K in the UK who are supporting those on lower income who get all sorts of tax credits - for you to even suggest that the poor are supporting the rich is laughable!!!

This new goverment are about to abolish tax for those earning £10K and under - its rediculous! Who do you think will be footing that bill? You see the harder you work the more you earn the more you get taxed...

News / UK might have anti-Polish socialist Prime Minister [29]

I think Milliband will do just fine, he's not bad in interviews and he looks good.

As for

I can't wait to see Labour start tearing chunks out of each other!

Brown did the right thing to step down, the same when Kninnock stepped aside many years ago..the thing with Labour is they know when they are defeated and in the end do whats best for the party..This time it was too late, he should have stepped aside months before the elections and the likes of Hazel Blears should have been kicked out of the party! You'll be dissapointed is all I can say if you are waiting for fireworks! The Milliband thing has been in the pipeline for a long time.

There is 5.5 million British Catholics in the UK discriminated because they are catholics I find this unbelievable in a country that has passed so many anti-race laws and will discriminate against its own Catholic subjects.

Muslims can wear the headgear in their daily jobs, yet a nurse was told she could not wear the Crucifix she'd been wearing for over 30 years. Catholic schools are being invaded by muslims who demand prayer rooms (can you imagine a catholic kid in a muslim school being given any kind of concessions?) - its a damn joke! So yes we are descriminated against, have been for over 500 years - there mere fact an English Catholic can not be the Priminister of his own country is a prime example - Instead we get another Prod Scot who is decent of a German (George I)!

‘Jews and Poles are becoming more aware the bonds they have with one another,’

Maybe I'll forward him a link to this forum - let's see if he thinks the same after reading some of the threads on here :D

If Labour had won the election Milliband could have been Prime Minister because he is a Jew only Catholics can't become Prime Minister of Britain.

Tell us something we dont know..still descrimatated in the 21st century! Bloody muslims get better treatment! I wonder if Gordo will convert now he's resigned..Blair seems to have done okay since saw the light ;0)

UK, Ireland / I have concerns over the British immigration policy so I wrote to my MP. [126]

All MPs were doing it not just the ones in power...

what does he mean?
immigrants claiming status of so called political exiles ?
yet, it appears that people in England have a problem with Easter Europeans and Indians, Pakistani and the other legally working in Britain.
So, either he is ignorant of the expatiation of his electorate or he is selling you "political" ********, sorry to bust your hopes .....

What he means is that those coming here regardless of where they are from should have funds to support themselves before they find work and not expect to be kept by the state in any way shape or form.

PIIGGS = Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Great Britain and Spain.

Shouldnt it be PIIGGBS?

Before the banking crisis, it wasnt perfect here, but it was no where near as bad as it is now, the economy was quite healthy in the early to mid 2000s thats why 1,000s of people migrated here from other parts of europe and prospered.

Subprime mortgages, no thanks!

Yep a country where people can just shut the door and walk away because they defaulted on their mortgage..

My girlfriend is Polish, and she is separated from her Polish husband for 2 years now.

Another attention seeker...Absolution of marriage is after a certain time ( If divorce is partitioned) (I know..and Im sure you have found out on the net!)...means you are free without consent of another party! As for the other person getting married, involve the police, not a forum! FFS!

Also whoever added this music needs to be shot in his f*cking face, what the hell is this trash?

UK, Ireland / driving in england on a Polish license [10]

If you get your old insurance company in Poland to send your papers over along with a copy translated in to English you can get your no claims.

My suggestion would be try Tesco, they'll bascially insure anyone (no offence) and the prices are not too bad and they're a part of Direct Line but a lot cheaper.

As to your g/f, just have one car, have her added as a name driver, it wont be cheap but it'll be a damn sight cheaper than her having her own insurance and a lot of insurance companies will take on board amout of years driving when she is more experienced and offer her no claims after a couple of years..(thats if she doesnt have an accident).

Law / Poland's Work permit questions - visiting European countries; working in the EU / switching job; dependants [86]

"Daddy, Id like you to meet my new husband, Santhosh" said Magda as she clutched onto her new Dior handbag.

Good job she's not very good at recognising fake tat! ;0)

Try UK, Ireland or America.

The reason they're going to Poland is because they cant get into the UK..looks like the new points based system is working ;0) Shame they find wives so easy, this does enable them to get in!

1)

have my polish gf in poland and i live in india ...she is sending invitation to come poland.
can i marry her in poland on visit visa

2)

hi ... if i get work permit for poland .

3)

i will get work permit for 1 year

So the first option failed? Maybe if you get a work permit you can find another potential wife while you're there...

i Have the Degree of Commerce I wanna Continue my study in Polland Is It Possible? if is it Possialbe then i Do wht for that----

I imagine its the same as in many other countries, find a university that does what you want, ensure you have the correct entry skills, the right amount of money in your bank and then apply for a student visa.

News / Brown's 'Bigotgate' and the debate about Poles [63]

There is no central Europe, only East and West

And South (we have southern Europe)

they even recruited my friends Italian father by offering a job at the docks in Palermo - work as a coal ripper for 7 years and you get the citizenship.

Why do you say "even"? We've had Italians in the UK since long before WWII.

I liked that Brown said what he said :)

I'll be interested to hear what Nick Griffin has to say when he wins more seats than he would have, had Brown not shown his true colours, there's no clawing this back, Im also glad he said it, but not for the reasons you are - just shows that they havent got a clue how people actually fee about the immgiration problem on my little island.

I love the fact that we now live in a borderless EUROPE, people should be free to come and go as they please, they should be free to choose where they want to work and live, settle and raise families. It’s so much nicer to be nice, we should just love each other and spend more time hugging and less time moaning.

If all countries were equal and offered the same quality of life then it would be great, unfortunately most people in europe dont want to and live in 3rd world countries.

.
