Life / Living in Poland since 2010 and I still don't have ID. Advice needed please. [50]

what that land is zoned as

Agriculture and forestry have special rules at the moment. This is temporary.

When transfering the gas, water, electric, internet, alarm etc. we were asked for a copy of said ID card every time.

There's no legal basis for that anywhere in the EU.

So why are people having vastly different experiences/ difficulties?
Maybe different regions have their own interpretations of the law or indeed there are different laws?

Is it a small town by any chance? And do you think someone was trying for a bribe to sort it all out?

Travel / In last place was Polish airline LOT [22]

But don't you find it all a bit "suspcious" that Heathrow names BA and Virgin the top quietest airlines flying into the airport?

Not in the slightest. Firstly the BA/Virgin results are for short haul only - for long haul they're both in mid-table, secondly there's no connection between any of those companies and thirdly there's no reason to suspect the testing was anything other than rigorously honest.

For the record, it looks like the two areas that let LOT down are Continuous Descent Violations and that their aircraft are not Chapter 4 compliant (the link below explains those terms - they were new to me too). It looks like those are measurable criteria. So nothing suspicious.

Life / Catholic "Telewizja Trwam" from Poland - your thoughts? [98]

Asking for someone to be killed is worse than agreeing with the killing of somebody.

Doesn't fit with your earlier comment:

According to Jon though, he probably did something wrong

According to the authorities of the day, even. Though I wouldn't rule out anything - we'll never know and we have no reliable source material.

You have an interesting understanding of the word 'probably'...

then they are just a guilty.

No. saying you agree with a death is not the same as killing someone.

The bottom line is, people crucified him.

That's the standard theological line.

What exactly was he guilty of that earned him a crucifixion? Disturbing the piece?

This is what we don't know, probably never will and oughtn't to rely on the gospels for.

They aren't; they are quite a bit cheaper than BA.

A lot depends on what, when, how. I think we had this discussion before when you bought those tickets (which are indeed good value). I fly a lot (no pun intended) and always check LOT first. On the routes I need, they're occasionally cheaper but nearly always more expensive - sometimes drastically so. They're good for long haul though and generous with upgrades.

There's something really fishy about this.

I wonder what you think is 'fishy'. There's no reason that LOT in particular should be at the top of the noise league in an independent test unless that's what the results came out as.

Oh some of them did now did they?

Yes. Do you blame all of them?

but that doesn't make them innocent.

Or him either for that matter.

To repeat, do you blame them as a whole (including those who weren't even in the same town)?

Heathrow airlines ranked by noise for first time

It's mostly to do with the age of their fleet. They have those new Boeings (the ones that don't work very well) but those aren't on their Heathrow routes.

Genealogy / Help needed about my Polish surname, Dobbert. [73]

What does Ancestry.com have to do with how far back you can get in your family tree?

It's an excellent resource and more than a few generations back there's a strong chance that someone else has done the work and is sharing their findings.

They aren't indestructable. May I remind you that the plane crashed with forces of up to 100g?

It's quite common for them to be destroyed or damaged, unfortunately.

It's always more fun dealing with people who snipe from thousands of miles away, especially "patriots" who do nothing for Poland.

Indeed.

Work / Living in Katowice (programmer, 3000 PLN) - is it enough? [65]

I tend to disagree that 3000 PLN is not enough to pass by in Warsaw.

Wait a minute.....

Me and my partner

We rented a room

We used to go out for drinks twice a month.

We always had money to buy pharmaceutics and to go to the doctor

with 1000 PLN more every month I think we would have been able to move to a studio flat, and maybe indulge ourselves in more costly food.

That isn't really "enough" is it, if a couple can only afford to rent a room in someone else's home, can't pay for health insurance and can't afford to go out. Like something from the Great Depression.

tell them what they are supposed to think about what is happening.

Well.....

There's a pretty wide choice of media outlets with a very wide range of editorial views. Some are more popular than others. People will buy/watch/listen to whatever they prefer.

Surely you aren't just complaining that not all TV stations share your own views on issues like the Smolensk accident?

The only time mainstream media even mentions it [on TV] is basically when they find their own people to go on their shows and talk about how much these discoveries are a load of rubbish, and the people who are discovering them must be mentally unstable.

I wonder why that is.

Macierewicz

The guy who chained himself to the speaker's chair a while back.

some well respected professors from American Universities?

I'm not sure why you think a university being American is any recommendation, but great that these guys gave their time for free....

Unfortunately they wasted it and possibly their reputations too, not least because of some of Macierewicz and the Smolenskists crazier stunts.

This is why the likes of Polsat, TVN, Gazeta Wyborcza etc. gave us a lot less information about the April 10th plane tragedy,

Or perhaps just gave news, not tasteless speculation.

Life / Living in Poland since 2010 and I still don't have ID. Advice needed please. [50]

Perhaps there was some "transition period" after Poland joined EU in 2004 and non Polish couldn't buy house

No. It was possible to buy real estate before 2004, also. Albeit with some surreal restrictions, some of them to do with borders and military installations.

Author. If so much in trouble why not use help of some lawyer?

Very good advice.

There's certainly something fishy here - the whole thing doesn't add up at all.

we had to go to warsaw to prove that her father was polish and took 18 months to buy

This is a total irrelevance. An EU citizen can buy a house without any of that stuff. My other half bought some land this year (in the same Powiat as the OP) without being an EU citizen and not having a Polish passport for similar reasons to those the OP mentions about his wife.

None of this is remotely relevant. Thousands of people are in that situation and ability to sort out paperwork has nothing to do with one's parents' life history.

The EU citizen in this question is potentially Polish, therefore they won't issue him a karta pobytu unless he applies using her Polish ID.

This is very likely as is the possibility/probability we/they are not getting the whole story. Either the OP isn't mentioning something, or some local characters are taking advantage of their naivete and are holding out for the usual.

Britain says i don't live there

This is odd too.

By the way, you do realise don't you that you need to do the paperwork at: rzeszow.uw.gov.pl/urzad-wojewodzki/wydzialy-puw/wydzial-sp raw-obywatelskich-i-cudzoziemcow.html (if you're in Krosno in Podkarpackie)

You don't say which Krosno - I listed the office for the biggest one.

The problem is her father is polish by birth but we can not prove this, they want to give my wife the polish id card and not zameldowanie but without her fathers papers its a catch 22

Sorry but this just doesn't ring true. I appreciate there's a problem and it's a source of stress for you, but from your posts, something doesn't sound right.

Firstly. A zameldowanie is nothing to do with nationality or citizenship. If you have the deeds (Akt Notarialny) to your home, you just go to the office and get it. I don't think they can refuse. Even if you're a Martian.

Secondly. They may well want to give your wife a Polish ID card (dowod osobisty) but there's no reason why you should go along with this - your wife and yourself (if you're an EU citizen) are entitled to the normal cards for residency. Are you sure you've gone to the right office? You need to get this from the:

Wydział Spraw Obywatelskich is Cudzoziemców

Neither of these things has anything to do with what nationality someone's father was. I think they are messing you about. Are you doing this in a small town by any chance?

I'll take your word for that.

That would, as ever, be sensible.

Even a conviction for a serious crime while in PL isn't enough.

a clear and present threat to the national security of and/or public order within Poland

This suggests terrorism or politics and I've never heard of it being used.

Apparently, they are trying to get Polish citizenship. Why, God only knows. There is nothing a Polish citizen can do that a resident foreigner can, except vote in national elections.

Exactly. I wonder if they understand that you can live anywhere in the EU, The way the guy writes in English suggests he may be foreign though or not especially confident with paperwork.

This whole thing doesn't add up. If they're British Citizens, what would their parentage have to do with anything? We're all in the EU now and Polish ancestry doesn't make one whit of difference - in fact most British people who register as resident and get the ID card don't have an ancestral connection. Many have stronger connections than ancestry (like living, marrying and working there for a long time) but equally many just turn up and register.

but to buy or own a car you need polish id card and for a mobile phone on contract,

No. You do not need either. You just need o register as Dominic B says.

BTW, if you own your home, you have no problem getting a zameldowanie.

Polish (or any other) parentage is an irrelevance. Your UK passport is the most important.
