News / Mass immigration to Poland - article and response [479]

No comment on that. I just hope that Poland isn't swamped with immigrants. A little diversity is healthy and I embrace multiculturalism but not out of control. Que sera sera...

Get them out, the message is simple! Sometimes risks need to be taken. I was speaking about Norway, not the rest of Europe. They should take measures too. Denmark is taking a firm line on it.

Yeah, Gorgoroth are from Bergen so Oslo escaped them ;) ;)

Seriously though, law enforcement needs to take a stand. Sparking a religious war is hardly a new thing anymore. They can't be allowed to destroy civilised countries like Norway. Many Scots see them as some kind of distant brothers and we should help out in any way we can. They can't suffer in silence.

This is unfortunately affecting all Scandinavian countries. If they are causing all manner of social problems, they should be turned away. This is why I value national sovereignty so that national apparatus can take all relevant steps to oust them. The UN doesn't have a clue how to protect people properly. If such immigrants come to Poland and beat me, I'll beat them twice as hard back. I feel for Norwegians at this time. In Aberdeen, Scotland, we have more Indians and Chinese and they tend to be quiet, law-abiding citizens. However, radical elements are casting their nets ever wider and may the world not be deceived by them.

History / Weapons of WWII (Poland and other countries) [239]

It's hard to assess their competence when many of them were mere cogs in the wheel with virtually no leeway. Let us not forget the absolutism of Hitler's plans, they were all or nothing. They did what they had to!

Inkrakow, there is sb here who was trying to sell top-class cheddar, it could be them. Hold on, I'll retrieve the thread.

Quite the revelation that, delph. I'll be sure to arrange a trip. Many thanks for the info, min. I'm off to check Google Maps ;) ;)

Aha, it's a fair distance. It's closer to £ódz but it didn't take my fiancee's bro long to get to Warsaw and it's closer than that.

Good idea, I'd be fair game. I've really had to cut back on my cheese eating but that kind of offer is enticing. Is it in Poznań, delph?

Lazur is pretty good. I love some of the mouldy ones in Tesco. It's funny to hear some Poles say gouda is Polish :)

Do you currently live in Poland, aphrodisiac? I just wonder if there are cheeses in Poland that we don't get here in Gliwice. I love Austrian smoked cheese but am not aware of Polish names. I guess I have eaten such a thing here but I wasn't sure if it was Polish or not. Oscypek is fantastic if you avoid the rubbery and overly salty versions. Goat cheese is a cut above.

How about yellow cheeses here, any preferences?

Food / Types of CHEESE in Poland [150]

I fancy a cheese discussion. I'm a little surprised that Poland lags behind somewhat, given the real strength of its dairy products. Mazdamer is a good cheese but I have to say that French and German cheeses are for choice.

To Polish people, what are the top 3 Polish cheeses in your opinion?

Food / Bread Baking in Poland [65]

My fiancee fries cheese on bread here. I can't touch that stuff, it's instant weight gain for me.

Wrocławska is really good. Chleb angielski sells quite well.

Still, you have to discuss bread when you discuss Poland. Some of the stuff in Tesco is really good.

Geez, I forget what we call caraway. I know what you mean, though. There is a good carrot bread here. I like moister breads, moist is good.

Food / Bread Baking in Poland [65]

I saw some good loaves in Dom Chleba today. When fresh, Polish bread instantly appeals. Having been in some fantastic bread-making countries, especially in the Baltic states and Finland, I can say that Polish bread is right up there with the best. I need to go to a specialist bakers and really explore the whole variety of options here. I tend to see the same offerings but I know there's much more out there having read about it.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Yes but that doesn't make it genocide. You can't just claim sth because you want it to be that. Genocide is largely targeted at civilians. Just look at Sarajevo, Rwanda, Ukraine and the Holocaust for evidence of that. Torq, it doesn't matter that a war exists between two nations, it is a characteristic crime of a warlike nature that matters and I can't see anything in the Conventions which says otherwise.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Well Torq, how do you account for the stupidity of Niesolowski when he said that there had only been 2 genocides in history? The key is knowing how to read an international law document in the context in which it was framed. I think Katyn did have genocidal elements but we have to understand the intentions of the drafters.

Well, soldiers were involved and the Soviets had already invaded. I'd interpret that as an act of war.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Harry has a good point, Torq. They were POW's in the absence of a formal declaration of war. Also, I recall an essay I did on the Rome Statute all those years ago. I dug it out. Article 8 2 (b) states that "international armed conflict" is enough. There was certainly that by April 1940.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Well, that isn't the key point. I have to review the legislation, though. A war crime is one typical of war and not necessarily conducted during wartime. I'll get back to you on this, Torq.

Law / Bureaucracy in Poland [53]

Well, there are so many willing clerks here. It gives the oldies sth to complain about. I wonder what the young clerks (if there are any) on this site think.

Law / Bureaucracy in Poland [53]

A blowjob ;) ;) Tusk's proposed streamlining doesn't appear to have come about. Still in the pipeline I see but I heard that they should have been implemented by now.
