Polonia / What About The Poles In The Netherlands? [102]

Holland is definitely on my list of countries to visit. I've travelled a fair bit this year so it will be sometime next year. Unlike the Poles, I will be looking for sth beyond Heineken ;) ;)

Polonia / What About The Poles In The Netherlands? [102]

Mods, my apologies. I hastily responded to RN. OK, the Netherlands. I talked to a guy that went there and he really had a great time. He found the Dutch to be an agreeable and fun bunch and he said that his colleagues loved it too. He was the boyfriend of one of my colleagues who unfortunately lost her job. She was an uplifting source :)

Then I'll let him answer that but who employed them? I can safely tell you that many got their jobs when in Poland and were invited as I went through their CV's with them.

However, I'm not as optimistic as Seanny on this one.

All please remember that this thread is about the Netherlands, not Ireland and not the UK.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

I dunno why but I doubt the sincerity of what they write. With most Polish women I have met, I have always received the impression that there's sth niggling inside of them. They have the 'snap' gene.

Love / How to please Polish women? [216]

Dice, ROTFL! Absolutely superb! The never wrongs will deny that they need all that :)

Aphrodisiac, you said you are coming back to Poland. Were you studying somewhere? Just curious!

Well, Scotland for starters. I am guessing England and Wales too. Dentists get a golden handshake as they have a deservedly good reputation and are much sought after. I know this for a fact as my mum researched it for my ex who is now in England. She probably received a similarly attractive package and she said she was warmly invited.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

It all boils down to discussion. In the absence of any agreement, the guy is expected to pay but sometimes it makes the woman feel better if she pays. It generally runs parallel to earnings and basic humanity in relationships. My overheads have shot up so my fiancee knows this and tries to compensate for our collective benefit. It just depends what you are comfortable with and also acknowledging the reality that, temporarily, things can be tough.

I'd never allow the situation where I paid for everything. The low level of gratitude just isn't worth it. Think smart, think Scottish :)

It's also about pulling ones weight. If you do more than your fair share, you should pay less in other ways.

Law / Setting up small business in Poland? [191]

It really depends. It can cost thousands or it can cost 1PLN to get your own firm. I paid one złoty to register mine but it just made me a contractor and not sb who runs a fully-fledged teaching school.

News / "Drink Hard" - Bruce Willis to endorse Polish vodka [48]

That's because business is business. What is to be done? If companies cared more about tradition than money, that wouldn't happen.

Bruce Willis hehehe, it's hardly like the achievement of Suntory in securing Sean Connery for promoting their Zen whisky.

Love / Scottish & Polish relationships [229]

My relationship is working. Us Scots can be headstrong too and this helps when dealing with Polish females. The man should take control and that's what she expects.

UK, Ireland / Fish and chips - do Polish people in the UK like this? [108]

Some do, some don't. Happy now? ;)

Wrocław, if they are your red marks, you ought to read what you wrote. No closer to the thread than I was.

If Poles want to discuss their preferences, then I'll gladly chat with them about an area I love.

UK, Ireland / Fish and chips - do Polish people in the UK like this? [108]

It sounds like a commercial thing which would flop in places which value their local offerings. Never underestimate the quality of local producers :)

Polish people in the UK, do they like fish and chips?

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

I like Tyskie but have gone off it as it is way too gassy. It gives me heartburn and is 'awkward' if I have one before classes as part of a pub lunch. Forgive me, I'm British and we sometimes do that kind of thing.

You are tormenting me now, Wrocław ;) ;) Yeah, you can find a weaker substitute in dips for tortillas. When it was PLUS, they had their own brand called Clarky's and they did a mean cheese sauce dip.

Curry sauce, what a brilliant idea for chips :) Chili is the icing on the cake.

There was a brand of squeeze cheese back home in an orange bottle. Heavenly when added to burgers too.

I think I'll have some fish and chips when I go back for Xmas.

Ajb, sexy chips :) :) After a few too many portions, I wonder if sexy would be the right adjective. Still, a nice touch :)

Well, he's very active on the 'cut Polański some slack' thread ;) ;) Some just can't conceal their innermost agendas ;) ;)

I encourage people to try Frater by the main Poznań brewery (Kompania?). It's an affordable weissbier.

Now you're talkin, Wrocław. Pies up north are the stuff of legends. Good to see that the English love them too. Ah, the newspaper. That was back in the 80's in Scotland.

Mushy peas? Brilliant too. Do you have chips in cheese or curry sauce? That's a wacky Scottish idea but one that we honour.

Good man! Butteries are great too. Do you prefer the puffy or the crispy ones? I'm glad in a way to be away from those as I'd be a roly-poly :(

Fish and chips is best when tipsy and not drunk. I've seen many guys drop perfectly good pieces of fish when tanked up and it's a sad sight. I used to love jumbo sausage suppers as I never gained weight as a kid. How time changes things :(

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

Well, practicality is very much part of the Polish psyche but that is changing as they have started to eat more fast food and do less in the kitchen. I've gotten my fiancee off of McD's and pizza, she is doing well. She's a good weight :)

I think you mean the Dolphin on Little Chapel St. The baker is nearer Rose St, just off Holburn junction (Chalmers I think). At the opposite end of Castlegate, right? There's a Subway near Harlaw Academy too :)

Really? My fiancee is a wizardess in the kitchen. She can whip up all kinds of things. Her latest was sajgonki, those Vietnamese spring rolls. Sushi, mince n tatties, soups and pierogi are just some of the things that she can do.

Sorry torny, the smart ones know what they are doing in the kitchen.

Delph, the Ashvale on GWR is the only one I've been to and it really does a mean fish and chips. The Bluebird just off King Street, yeah. I was a student at Merkland for 3 years and the chipper was on Urqhuart Road. Zanres in Mintlaw, top place. I went there after watching a Strongman contest at Aden Park. Woodend has some good stuff, I used to go there after swimming.

Jonni, what market? I'm trying to imagine a chipper near the main market.

Shelley, I was just trying to claim we had a big-name chipper :) It was no great shakes and was just advertised well. Willie Miller mishandled it. If it were priced reasonably, it would've been a good eatery.
