News / Mass immigration to Poland - article and response [479]

Funny that, I'm noticeably whiter than most people here. Much like Scandinavians. Yet I don't claim to be 'better', whatever that means. Many black Africans know medicine much better than I do. Does that make them 'better'?

Love / How to please Polish women? [216]

Mean as in aggressive, nasty or stingy/tight? Mean means 3 things at least.

They are very often moody, yes.

Law / Bureaucracy in Poland [53]

Yeah, I was allowed to expedite a process which the British Consulate wouldn't allow. That increased my estimation of them.

Were you a Callan student? Any experiences of Polish bureaucracy? They were good to me the last time I was there.

I've met many people in 4ART. Another subtle hint, please :)

Of course you do ;) ;)

Give me a discreet sign that you do as you can't PM me.

I think you know. Gliwice, it's in the SW of Poland.

Seanus (not expecting an answer from kcue for a while) ;) ;)

He lives in the same city as I do. I worked with him for 3 years. I think I know you too behind your guest status ;) ;) You are female, right?

Law / Bureaucracy in Poland [53]

I know him. He had his reasons and let's just say that bureaucracy was not foremost on his mind at that time. He was just making a remark. He can do that, can't he?

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

Tusk would sell Poland out in an instant and this is the view of many Poles I have talked to. Mel Gibson, LOL. An American-Aussie, not a Scot.

I agree with that, Gumi. Tusk is a man who values brownie points and the next election, rather than practical concerns

I agree with Rychlik. I've never been to the ME, for example, but I've researched it so thoroughly that I know what I'm talking about. I've also watched umpteen Kosovo documentaries and am watching another now.

Canadians tend to be broad-minded people in my experience. They make inquisitive journalists and they can couple their resourcefulness with having ample access to the info they need.

I'd even prefer to listen to a Canadian perspective as they are more detached from the ding-dong battle that existed between Gasprom and Ukraine/Poland and the EU in general. Say no to European provincialism.

Sledz is right. Germany is bum buddies with Russia, Sarkozy is a crawling fly who curries favour with them and Brown would never stand up to Putin.

Russia can act with impunity and cripple Europe this winter. Polish business is heavily reliant on Russian gas and even temporary cutoffs can visibly hamper industrial progress here.

Scotland is in a decent position when it comes to gas.

International relations are international relations but business is business.

Wow, that's odd. I'd never shake hands with my biggest enemy. Tusk seemingly does.

The simplest answer is that gas is needed here and it's not far to transit.

Classifieds / English cuisine week in Lidl shops in Poland [203]

Don't like what? I'm happy settling for the options here. Why don't you have a proper Polish name, rather than an English one, you prick? ;)

Go off and eat your mum's pierogi. Then try the filled pockets :)

Love / How common is it for husbands in Poland to open their wife's mail ? [30]

There is no substitute for real contact. I miss meaningful discussions with my family. I won't have seen them for 1.5 years when I go back for Xmas this year. It sounds like a while but nothing like your time frame. Catching up really helps people become circumspect/reflective and draw on what they have done or been doing in their lives.

Good luck with that, many have a wide array of technology at their disposal. If you can't visit her, there are always fallbacks :) :)

It sounds like a modified version of couscous, sth which is from Morocco I think but which Poles know.

No offence, Gumi, but I don't want to digress. My mind is focussed on cod fillets and fish n chips.

Rheumatism is probably neither English nor Polish. A bit like kiosk. We both know what kiosk means but it's of Persian origin.

Roll on Monday :)

News / Poland's Organized Crime [58]

Why not engage in organised crime? Poland is a classic state, like many others, where the police would be in on it. Are you gonna slave your guts out for peanuts when you can make some serious money? We all commit crimes, some are just more heinous than others.

I generally don't like the place in the UK but, in Poland, even Tesco has the twats so I'm indifferent to where I shop here. I'm not gonna let that worry me when I stock up on British items.

They have elements in different cities of course. I recognise the mafia here. There is a resident scarface and he seems to get what he wants.

Scampi is legendary! Some good fish on offer in LIDL. I wish they had Colmans at a reasonable price. I can get it here but at 10PLN for a small jar.

What's wrong with LIDL? They have some good wine, notably from NZ. Now they'll have scampi for a while, you can't turn your nose up at that.
