Genealogy / Ethnic Poles or Ethnic Germans? My family mystery [37]

The thread was about Germany,so I addressed the subject.
The rise of the right is happening,in varying degrees all across the "Western World" and is largely fueled by the existence of th PC,"Progressive" Left.

Genealogy / Ethnic Poles or Ethnic Germans? My family mystery [37]

You're definately not a Nazi.
But a small and scary proportion of Germans and especially Austrians are....The Austrians and Prussians were always the main problem....
But this is a cause for concern.
As in many countries at present, the rise of the left is largely causing this backlash.

Life / How's the life of an LGBT person in Poland? [90]

I have nothing against gay people, but I think they should be sensitive to the sensibilities of others, especially in front of Children.
I think most of them are and this applies to hetero couples too.
Many people are still offended by overt sexuality in public.
But the Gay haters I ask you this.....If your son or daughter comes to you and tells you they are gay.
Do you love them any less?

All good advice above but considering Adidas Boy is from India, where attitudes and even recently laws, are quite different from Europe,I'm sure he will be fine.

History / "Hurricane" - New film about the famous Polish RAF squadron 303. [26]

Yes,hindsight is a wonderful thing.............

Most of my family were military and ended up in The UK either during the war or just after it.
Some moved to The States or Canada and a couple to Australia but most stayed in The UK.
They felt betrayed when not allowed on The VE Day parade so as not to upset Stalin and they were not given British citizenship straight away but were issued with Travel Documents that allowed them to visit certain countries but offered no protection from The British State.

None returned to Poland.
Did any of them feel betrayed by the fact that Poland was not free?
I think they were,in the main, realistic about the situation and knew there was nothing that could be done.

History / "Hurricane" - New film about the famous Polish RAF squadron 303. [26]

That is a really stupid thing to say.
How were they supposed to know how it would end?
They envisioned themselves taking the fight all the way back to Poland.
Given the circumstances and our heavy reliance on Russia to end the war, what else do you propose they should or could have done?
And is all that a reason not to recognize the skill and courage of these great men?

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

It's true that there are huge ghettos of Muslims in The UK that just don't integrate at all.....that can also be said of Hindu's....

But many,from both groups,integrate well.
There needs to be a greater effort from both Brits and immigrants to change this.
I know many Asians and some Poles and other East Europeans who don't integrate, learn English or have English friends.
They don't need to....they have TV in their own language, their own internet, their own shops......it is a problem we need to solve now rather than later.

Very true Doug, but you're a True Brit,I don't expect you to understand Polish pride in our history.
I'm just surprised all the so called "Proud Poles" on this forum have no pride of their history.
History is very important to Poles.

Amazing.....this is a Polish forum and yet the only person who has shown any interest in my post is a nice Irish woman married to a Pole and living in Poland......where are the supposed Polish Patriots in this forum?

I have posted this link to many other Polish groups and it generated a lot of interest......what is wrong with Polish Forums?

I just want to bring this new film to your attention.
It tells the whole story in detail, showing their skill and bravery and even tells how badly The British government treated them after the war.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

There is so much sh1t being posted on this thread.
The Polish Americans seem to think they have got it all right.
But The USA is a mess.....check out deaths caused by Islamic terrorists in The USA compared to The UK and it is worse.....even not including 911.......Yanks,get off your high horses.....you have nothing to be proud about...you are as bad as we are....

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

We did and that is why Trump is president, not the b****.

We got rid of our Labour govt that let them in too.So it doesn't excuse The States.
The USA were worse for this than The UK and remember we had ties with the region due to British Somaliland.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

Atch,

As a Londoner I have to agree with everything you say.
But the level of immigration in recent years has really gone through the roof.
So much so that it is increasingly rare to hear English being spoken in public.
When I see a white family walking down the road I can be 80% sure they are Polish.
As for The Somalians, most of them seem to be cab drivers, often working for Uber.
As for Kilburn,as I'm sure you are aware,it was once very Irish,so much so that we used to call it County Kilburn(Pronounced with an Irish accent)!

Language / Polish words that sound funny? [224]

I asked the Byc/B1tch question to several Poles today and they all said that they ABSOLUTELY sounded different.
Can't really argue with that.....
But I asked them to say the two words.....and my ears heard no difference...Lol!!
