Po polsku / Trzymajcie się ciepło! :) [25]

Language / Why 'działka'? [10]

Is that a throwback to the commie era when people were reluctant to flaunt their wealth and felt that ‘działka’ sounded less pretentious than ‘dom letniksowy’, let alone ‘letnia rezydencja’?

No, you can buy soil/land but not right to build anything serious there. If you build a house you are doing that at your own risk. Some beautiful day, they may knock on your door and ask what are you doing with sewage or something like that.

UK, Ireland / Con Air UK: Flights take Polish criminals home - the cost to you is £25million [30]

THE NUMBER OF CRIMINALS EXTRADITED FROM THE UK TO POLAND HAS RECENTLY GROWN 14-FOLD

I was extradited from the UK to Poland too :/ The only reason was that they found phillips screwdriver in my pocket. I yelled at the crowd "I'm an Electrician, let me go, let me go", recited Ohm law, recited 17th Edition wiring regulations but they was merciless. Resistance was futile :'(

Life / What is the cheapest electronics store in Poland? [17]

What about the prices Sobieski, are they also the same?

accessories prices in MM rose 200% so it isn't good sign.

And Tesco, is it worth checking out for electronic stuff? Anyone?

they have strange stuff, you have to be careful with bargains.

Don't look for the cheapest store. Just take a fat wallet and chase promocje :)

Indykpol praca w chłodzie i wilgoci.

To w miarę normalny portal. Mało spamu.

Life / The central role of The Polish Balcony in Polish life :) [7]

''Over the years I have come to appreciate the central role that the balcony plays in Polish life. If an Englishman's home is his castle, a Pole's balcony is his wild outdoors. These tiny patches of real estate suspended in thin air are the birthright of all Poles. No matter where you are, you can see the mountains and the lakes from a Polish balcony''.

Genealogy / Village near Lancut [15]

I have a scan but its over the maximum of 100 Kb.

You can use lite irfanview to shrink image.

Backup your scan file. Then use Irfan View. There is an option in Image Menu --> Decrease Color Depth set to 2 (black and white)

or just Cut or Crop and Save as...new_image.jpg the only interesting area of scan.

it would be a "disaster" for Poland if Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the identical twin of Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president killed in an April plane crash, won.

absolutely right, whoever has said that.

Law / Tax Declaration in Poland (PIT-11) [10]

Employer shoud ask you if you have other income. If your answer is no you can ask them to do declaration for you. But is rare and people have to sum all income and do PIT37 by yourself.

Work / Salary, holidays - questions to employer during a job interview in Poland [47]

before to answer they told me after 3 months the salary will get higher if they decided to hire me definitely

Be careful and don't trust them too much! It is common practise to say after 3 months still 1600zl or man you didn't meet expectations, goodbye :/

Study / A Portuguese student wants to study in Poland [10]

In research I saw that I can rent a room to pay 250pln. Is it realistic?

Olsztyn is several times smaller than Wrocław and 250pln sounds unrealistic here. Rather 350zł and 4 people in the flat ~ 1200zł - 1400zł pcm

and food?

minimum 20zł per day
