Good to see that Sarmatian tradition is still alive and well, perhaps Karabela Polska would have been a preferred weapon to practice the art of sword fighting but if you deal with a savage machete is just as good. Besides it's just a palm of his hand that he lost which was promptly reattached and not his head.

Study / German v.s. Russian, language usefulness in Poland? [54]

I really question who's more of the "phony" here; the Pole who thinks they can understand, much less speak, good English, or, the foreigner

The “phony” is a moron who thinks that going to any country outside his own speaking anything else then a native language of that country or his own will get him anywhere. Obviously the morons native language skills are not that great either

like if their are more German than Russian speakers in Poland.

I’m no expert but…

My guess is that the Pole's the bigger phony in this scenario, since his knowledge of US-culture and language is most likely so skewed

Interesting opinion however misguided it may be. If you have actually traveled to US you would have found plenty of morons who can’t understand anyone with the slightest of accent, so what makes you think his pronunciation would be immaculate or even understood by anyone given the fact that the language he will use is definitely a second language for both. Kind of like deaf man telling a blind man to read his lips. :-)))

Language / Learning Polish, good for beginners? [29]

Oh and another thing..Please and Pig in Polish sound SO alike it isnt even funny! (i think it was pig)

Not even close, but you’re right it is funny to a native when he hears a foreigner trying to pronounce it. You make "sz" and "si" sound like English "sh" one sound for both hence the confusion on your part LOL.

Language / The Plural of Zloty? [46]

It translates to; we buy gold and silver.
In this case it’s not Polish currency Złoty you deal with but gold as a precious metal.
BTW it's Skup not Skóp, spelling mistake as well.

Study / German v.s. Russian, language usefulness in Poland? [54]

With a bit of education, he'll speak it. What's the problem?

He will never learn, by his own admission he stated he would rather learn Russian or German in order to communicate with the natives when he makes his trip, so what’s wrong with communicating in English which is his native language now? Neither one of the two he mentioned are native to the land he wants to visit nor is it his, this in itself is an insult given the history of the region especially coming from someone of Polish descend. It’s not like he lacks the opportunity to learn which he clearly states as the reason but he simply is not willing to do so, or at least try. Personally I don’t care if he speaks Swahili as long it’s his native tongue, it might take couple of hours for me to point him in right direction but at least I know I’m dealing with a genuine tourist not some phony. Besides, when I go abroad on a trip I make sure that I know the basics in the native language like; thank you, please etc. and I’m more than willing to use it no matter how badly it may sound to the native, a little effort on his part will get him a lot further with the natives. Whether you know the language or not is not relevant. What is however is how you present yourself to me, so far all he managed to do is to show he’s ashamed of who he is.

Study / German v.s. Russian, language usefulness in Poland? [54]

Haha sorry I probably should've clarified I'm not living in Poland currently, I was born there but we moved right after I was born

How pathetic, born in Poland of Polish parents. So what’s wrong with using English since you obviously can’t speak your own mother tongue. Don’t tell me that as soon as your family stepped off the plane on foreign soil they all of a sudden forgot Polish and that English was the only language used at home. You were either lazy or simply ashamed of who you are or perhaps not able to learn Polish (not smart enough.) If that’s the case taking the other two won’t do you any good. What’s the point in visiting your homeland when you’re still ashamed of it and won’t even try to speak Polish? You might as well stay away and visit the other two. Another phony.

UK, Ireland / English teenager refused service at Polish shop [87]

any better ideas to solve this mystery?

No, you’re doing fine. Since you want to seek the truth please contact them directly. I would suggest contacting the local investigator in this case and ask them directly as to what happen. Than get back to us with your finding. I did the search on the net on this subject and besides the original article, it’s subsequent reprints and few commotions that it caused on some forums there’s nothing, which suggest an empty accusation as far as I’m concerned. Like this would be the first time a teenager lies to get out of sticky situation.

I don't believe in Witch hunts

Your relentless pursuit of this subject would suggest otherwise. One year has passed since the story broke, not a single article to support the accusation made originally in this case. We all hear what we want to hear and no one will change that even if there’s no real evidence to suggest othewise. Right? Your nick does not do you justice.

This story is one year old now, surely they must have concluded the official investigation by now, yet I can’t find a single article on how this case turned out. Besides a catchy headline there’s nothing to it after all.

Somewhat less. If that were true though, what does it say about Wall Street.

It speaks volume, you just don’t listen. The Federal Reserve is comprised of the heads of private Wall Street banks, every time a decision is made by the Fed its insider trading wouldn’t you say? Which brings us to the second point.

Are you mad? How many people a year are prosecuted? Many. Governments take it seriously.

Obviously not seriously enough. It’s a fact that Wall Street firms are making tons of money trading with Fed. Fed has obligation to announces its intention to buy particular securities in advance and Wall Street banks sell these securities to the Fed at inflated price yet another example of insider trading, so the answer should be obvious even to you. They do prosecute many, for petty crime and occasional joint but not for what Martha Steward has been accused of, an exception in this case rather than a rule.

That makes it better?

Compared to Bernie Madoff, a fine example of an upstanding Jew and his $65 billion Ponzi scheme which you haven’t commented on I would say definitely.

Martha was acting on information given to her. She did not build her wealth and a career of insider trading. It was a one-time fluke which involved a relatively small amount of money. What was it $220 thousand and the stock was not even one of her own companies.

And they made it stick. Conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding, and making false statements to federal investigators.

They did not make it stick!!!! Surprise, surprise a Jew lying again, by your own admission I don’t see insider trading there, DO I?

She did act on the information passed to her to save her own money. Frankly speaking so would anyone in her place and wouldn’t even think twice it might be considered insider trading since she was not the owner and had no interest in it other than owning stock. If it was a stock in her own company even I would accuse her of being a manipulating cvnt but that’s not the case is it? The alleged lies she told the FBI were not told under oath so technically she has not even commited a perjury.

I would check the title of this thread once again if I was you, It’s COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES In your zeal to attack Poles you forgot that and you’re way off topic.

I think both approaches were wrong and that's why I speak out.

Provided I take everything you said at face value, you speaking out against Jewish jokes yet poking fun at French as you did here and at the same time condoning the use of Polish joke make you a hypocrite which was the very point I was making. If you have a strong enough conviction that the use of ethnic or racial jokes has no place in our society, I’ll respect that view, hell I might even agree but you can’t have it both ways.

Selling it as a result of insider information the day before it falls 16% is a crime in most people's minds, as well as in the statute books of her country.

If that's the case than 99% of the Wall Street is guilty of the same crime and no one ever prosecuted; besides she was never convicted of insider trading but lying to an investigator about a stock sale. Government charges people under this statute if it cannot find any other charge that will stick (No real evidence) yet still set an example. Hell of a difference of being suspected of insider trading and actually being convicted of. I suspect 100% of those on Wall Street of doing the same, yet have no evidence to back it up. Who's Pawned!! Now punk.

No it wasn't. Baran (who is actually Jewish and moved to the US when he was 2 years old) worked on switching techniques for US military use, just before Vietnam :

So he was Jewish? First I hear of it, he was born in Poland and moved with his family to Boston in 1928. Besides he can’t be a Jew since it is your argument that one can’t be Polish because he is in America.

If you want to talk about Polish achievements (and most on your list are actually American) then use some genuine ones. Making false claims just looks corny and cheap.

Using your own logic, if someone born in some other country is simply that then a Jew born in Poland is not a Jew but a Pole, neither a Jew born in America or anywhere else in the world can call himself a Jew. so to paraphrase you making false claims just looks corny and cheap.

The American Stephanie Kwolek did not invent Nylon (Wallace Carothers did), nor does she or anyone else claim that she did.

How quick and noble of you to point out someone’s simple mistake yet failing to show her to some of us who might not be aware of her achievements as to who she really was, a recipient and co-recipient of no less than 17 U.S. patents, but that’s such an underachievement by any standard.

She was never charged with inside-trading since she was not an insider. Talk about trumped up charges. Her only "crime" was she denied letting the prosecutors know how well she knew the owner of the Bio-tech company she had stock in.

Didn’t you know that selling your own stock is a serious crime in Jewish mind because it generates profit to someone other than a Jew? LOL. Now a Jew like a Bernie Madoff orchestrator of a $65 billion Ponzi scheme hurting tens of thousands in the process is a victim of anti-Semitism because people want to have their money back.

How pathetic of the Jewish community on PF to call me

you're a jew hater

when someone points out to them that they stop at nothing to discredit, to demean and to lie about anything Polish or having to do with Poland while it’s positive. It makes you look like a Joke in my eyes.

The issue is the distasteful comments you always make about them.

Yet you fail to show how is my comment distasteful by simply pointing to the article written by Jew about Poles and others. Have you read the statements in it made by a Jew? It's there for all to see and to make their own judgment. You on the other hand make an empty accusation

you're a jew hater.

If you only had the guts to admit as to what really bothers you a world would be much more of a happy place. I would laugh at your Polish Jokes and you at my Jewish Jokes

The jokes you quoted are not the issue.

But they are, you just have a hard time to admit to it, besides you still have not explained if Jokes about Poles are funny why jokes about Jews are not?

UK, Ireland / Documentary on foreign and local workers in a town in England. [66]

I do feel solidarity for people who are being pushed aside in their own countries. Just imagine being unwanted by your own people.

So do I, I never argued otherwise. Just like in this piece where the false belief in lazy versus productive to hide the true reason behind it which is being cultivated in order to …. (Write your own story here), so are many others like a third world country subsidized by the very same unemployed Brit, German whatever. Yet no one ever mentions the fact that mainstay of our industry which provided good paying jobs for our people like steel mills, ship yards, mining etc., all were bought out for cheap by corporate world base in the old EU nations forced on us as part of restructuring in order to join the union and simply closed as to not to create competition to the ones already operating elsewhere or for some environmental concerns as part of the agreement to join EU, stay, whatever. On the other hand those jobs that were created by our ascension to EU were far less than those lost thus artificially creating job shortage and high unemployment to lower the labor cost in your own countries. All this exploitation and still we are being called as leaches by those who simply have no idea of the price Poland paid. Multiply this by so many new nations joining the union and you create chaos, for the same thing was happening in those countries. There are many Myths being created and reinforced in the minds of westerners by the press and it all seems to be slowly sinking in, in the view of general public judging by the opinions presented here on this forum not necessarily on this subject by most of the members here. No independent thought whatsoever except by few, just your basic run of the mill repeat of catchy one line phrases taken out of the magazines that appeal to the masses. The point is; the resentment grows on both sides of the equation fuelled by the media even if on the surface it seems as positive to the newcomer or in his defense and what’s viewed as PC today.

UK, Ireland / Documentary on foreign and local workers in a town in England. [66]

Not getting work in their own country is a reality and they have to make a living somehow.

Exactly! This report which is pretending to show the reality of labor market is biased on many levels, not only it’s unfair and demeaning to the British laborer looking for a job but immigrant labor as well. In reality all it does it pits one against the other and reinforces the popular belief of lazy verses productive. This fact by itself should raise a red flag for the viewer. Only one sentence in the entire piece had mention the fact that many of those immigrant laborers are well educated, yet no one even attempted to explained why they take on the low paying jobs and push the local unskilled labor out of the job market. This entire piece never raises the question of what brings the foreign worker to Britain. It never even pretends to explain why the labor market is so bad in the other countries that they have to emigrate and take on sometimes even demeaning jobs, or why the labor laws do not protect the worker or if they are even enforced.

Its intention was never to explain the root cause of the changes in labor market around the world that took place in the recent years, heavily favoring the Big Business and corporate world and certainly not what's happening in Britain. Why were the laws relaxed? Why were they changed and why the existing ones are not enforced as shown in this discriminatory advertisement presented in DM article raised on the other thread here. It simply focused on one issue, how worthless the locals are which in turn breads resentment towards immigrant community. So it makes you wonder what purpose it serves. whose agenda is being promoted here? I’m afraid that an average viewer will never even consider raising those questions on his own, instead he will just take defensive posture; turn his anger at his greatest enemy as presented to him by the authors of this piece, (short of stating it themselves) his competitor, mission accomplished.

UK, Ireland / Documentary on foreign and local workers in a town in England. [66]

Whoever pays the piper calls the tune.

Good call. No doubt that there are many Brits given the chance and proper incentive in form of competitive wages that would do whatever it takes to make it. Bottom line is the profit for everyone involved, not some idealistic notion of providing fair compensation for the locals or considering the living cost and what would it take to raise the family in the area not to mention even playing field. Relaxing labor laws in the name of globalization is in elites interest, local politician can brag how he/she saved the jobs from moving out of the area, pretending to be in Joe the public interest, business saves money on labor costs and squeeze ever penny possible, everyone’s happy. There’s nothing wrong with making a profit as long as some kind of a balance is maintained between decent wage for the worker to maintain livable standard of living and corporate profit. We as a society have regressed in that respect, instead of working towards maintaining or improving that balance through our representatives in government we let it deteriorate. The reasons for that sad state of affairs are too numerous to get into now, ranging from geopolitical changes to corporate greed and corruption. Bottom line is that they succeeded in creating resentment towards each other among the two groups that in reality are being exploded, effectively blaming each other for the circumstances they find themselves in. As long as that resentment and blame can be maintained it’s a win, win situation for them. Interesting piece about the labor market but…..

UK, Ireland / No job unless you're Polish [201]

As far as I can tell, this company is happy with Polish workers and wants more of them so it offers training in Polish and does not seek out other nationalities very much. Demand, meet supply.

I wouldn’t be so sure. They simply found another way to save the cost thus maximize their profit in form of relocation costs. Why spend money on that when you can relax the labor laws and guarantee that potential worker will come to work for you at his own expense for a lot less than a local. Who knows in 2-4 years it might be the Zimbabwean that is lot more profitable for them than a Pole and your theory of hard working Pole shut to hell. It’s all about profits.

Demand, meet supply, spot on.

UK, Ireland / No job unless you're Polish [201]

As tempting as it is to have a bit of fun with this one I just can’t. Seriously there’s something wrong with this picture and no one seem to put a finger on it. Big Business gets a free pass on their tactics to maximize their profits with the help of few chosen ones in politics. They have been brainwashing Joe the voter with that PC crap and catchy one line slogans for years now. Those resilient to conform are branded as bigots, racists, anti-Semite, what have you for revealing a shred of truth. To be honest, changing the ruling party won’t help, it’s guaranteed that their agenda will remain unchanged with the backing of their cronies in whatever party they might be. That has been a trend for the pest 20 or so odd years in politics of whatever country, not just EU. Sometimes it makes you wonder if people like RevokeNice are not paid to deflect the blame thus ensuring that people won’t demand their rights and fair treatment; or worst their anger, where they should - at the source. Face it we are all played like a fiddle, who knows if they play their cards right they might even solve the population problem in near future by turning each and every one of you against each other. Adopting a Chinese model would just not be PC correct LOL.

SHT - I am so glad you are not French because if you were you'd have died of a heart attack long time ago if silly jokes bother you so much.

That’s where you’re wrong; I appreciate a good joke just the same, so here’s couple more silly jokes for you.

How do you know jews are living nextdoor?
There's wet toilet paper on the clothesline.

What’s the difference between a Jew and a Canoe?
Canoe tips.

How was copper wire invented?
2 Jews fighting over penny.

Why did the Jews walk around the desert for 40 years?
They heard that someone dropped a quarter.

What happens when a Jew with an erection walks into a wall?
He breaks his nose.

Your vicious Jew hate is just sad

I disagree, I call it humor. Small prick, big nose, greed = funny. When it’s about French, Pole etc., that’s humor to you, when it’s about a Jew on the other hand that’s hate. You proved my point, stop before you make a complete as* of yourself. Need I say more on the subject?

Those jokes started looong before WWII and had nothing to do with Jews.

Perhaps you are correct, jews no longer spread Polak jokes, they are just being outright liars, obnoxious and willing to use any trick up their sleeve to demean Poles without even trying to be funny. Here's a recent example of such great jewish journalist in reputable Wall Street Journal article about Poles. My bad, that's East cost publication, no wonder it's so hard for you to find it on the West coast. What If They Gave Medals for Losing? Yup nominate the Poles, somehow omitting the Israelis who didn't even have one medal in this Olympics great reporting there. Fair, balanced and funnnnnnnny.

This has nothing to do with having a 'thin skin'. It's all about respecting certain boundaries, which is the basis of human interaction.

Agree, I guess I'll stat respecting you the same way.

A harmless joke about the humourless Germans, the stupid Poles, the tight-fisted Scots is nothing compared to the above.

Perhaps you haven’t come in contact with a Yankee version of Polak jokes, or perhaps you don’t want to admit to it now since you all think that they just should be ignored. Now I posted those to make a point and as an example illustrating that stereotype is nothing to laugh at, the more shock value the better to illustrate that point. In 21 century, and with supposedly well traveled and educated people there is no place for jokes like that be it about Jews or Poles or Scots period. Yet you are willing to laugh at one and condemn the other, Hypocrisy!
