News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

I see no problems with suppressing pedophiles', rapists' (et al) sex drive in a chemical way for some years after prison.

If it isn't the first time they commit such things, do it for the rest of their lifes.

Love / Are all Polish men Psychos? [111]

And how would you know that?

Know what? I never said he's not trustable. I said that she can never trust him when he's doing these kind of things.

Love / Are all Polish men Psychos? [111]

Some people are very ambivalent. It's their normal personality, and you can't do much about it.

And about 0.5 % of all people have schizophrenia, that's 1/200 persons. So probably everyone has met someone who is schizophrenic, even if they didn't notice it.

Anyway, you can never trust him. So it's probably better to not get too much involved.

But of course, he can have some problem, so he needs some support from you as a friend.

Language / Use of Kochanie in Polish [37]

Kochanie is of the neutral gender, and the most correct form is moje. But many people use moja as well.

Language / Translation request: words like the / and / or / left / right / this, etc... [19]

Search this website and you will find book recommendations. I absolutely recommend 301 Polish Verbs by Janecki. If you want to learn good grammar of verbs.

your car? my car? his car? our car?

just to really confuse him!

But they are written as separate words, like in English.

Mój samochód
Twój samochód
Jego samochód
Nasz samochód
etc...

Language / Translation request: words like the / and / or / left / right / this, etc... [19]

Can you elaborate on what this new approach to this part of language is, or where / how I could pick it up?

This thing is not so difficult to understand. The problem will solve itself when you get some experience of Polish.

Other differences is that in English, the order of the words usually determines who/what is the subject, object etc of a sentence. In Polish, this is usually done by putting different endings to a word (there are many of them!).

In English you say I work, they work, you work etc.

In Polish the words I, they, you etc are often excluded from the sentence. And instead an ending of the verb shows who is doing something.

For example:
I work = pracuję
You (singular) work = pracujesz
We work = pracujemy
and so on....

You have to get a book of course, and maybe attend a course.

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

You should try Żubr. It's from Białystok, but you can find it all over Poland these days (I think).

Language / How to pronouce Szczygieł last name? [26]

All Poles with no exception will tell you your pronunciation is good if what you have just said is understandable without me having to think twice about what you have just said.

Maybe. Difficult to know. But it's good to notice that softness also varies among native Poles.

And to make it clear, I'm not saying that I can pronounce all words, and combinations, perfectly.

Language / How to pronouce Szczygieł last name? [26]

You are joking, right? Tell me what is so difficult with this word? I was very surprised when I read this. So I had to ask my Polish friend to listen to my pronunciation of this word, and she said I pronounced it correctly. And I have only lived in Poland for 2 years. So maybe you should think again.

Polish pronunciation is much more logical than many other languages. It's very difficult in the beginning, but there are few other languages (except Slavic ones) which have so consistent principles of pronunciation. So when you know all the basic sounds it's much easier than many other languages, where the pronunciation sounds almost random.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

I think 1 evening is enough to learn na zdrowie

At the pub you can pick up various expressions. Haha, I'm not gonna say more than that.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

but do they say na zdrowie or they say cheers

I guess most of us say na zdrowie. If you live 1 month in Poland and don't learn na zdrowie you should get a prize or something. Some try to learn a lot Polish, some think it's enough to know 10 expressions and 10 words. It seems, to me, pretty boring to live in a country and don't be able to have basic conversations.

Many languages are easy in the beginning and then gets more difficult. Polish is the opposit. It appears to be almost impossible in the beginning, everything seems to be random, but when you understand the structures the learning process is much smoother. But that takes some time and hard work.

Life / Is it me or do any guys in Poland not have shaved heads? [113]

In the smaller towns i've noticed many more have the shaved heads,

Trends usually start in big cities. We can see that people in eg. Wawa have longer hair now than 5-10 years ago. It comes later to the countryside and, above all, it takes much longer time to change styles on the countryside. People are probably more scared of what other people think, because "everybody knows everybody".

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

Who says polish girls are negative. i don't believe this. they are decent, very beautiful and smart. I've seen so many incrdibly intelligent girls. and it's true. i like our girls very much. they are so cute and innocent at least this is my honest experience so far.

When I read you text it seems like you think all Polish girls are the same. You should know that it's not true. Some Polish girls are nice, beautiful and intelligent. Some Polish girls are not.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

I will make an exception

I couldn't care less about your exceptions. I write what I want, and you just have to accept that.

And I know the Polish culture of today. You can still find some people with "old Catholic values". But you will get disappointed. Believe me man. Just remember what I say.

I wish you Good Luck! I really do.

Mam nadzieję, że bedziesz szczesliwy.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

Are you Polish?

No, but I live in Poland.

But you can say what you want, or think what you want, it doesn't bother or upset me at all. Because it's your life that will be sad, not mine. I don't have anything against you.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

random sentences

Wow, you actually read what I wrote. You say you're unhappy with your past life in the US. But you are not going to be happy anywhere with your attitude. But when you realize that it's probably too late. You will see that no country in the world is like you want it to be. The world is changing, and it's not in the direction you want. Don't blame us when you get disappointed.

But maybe you should try North Korea? When girls in all other countries laugh at you, maybe you get some controll over these girls. There are used to that I guess.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

johncardwell lives in his own little world. He does not read what other people write. So basically, there is no point trying to discuss anything with him. When he starts to respect other people, and what they think, then we can give it a try.

interracial dating is frowned upon in the States, so I can imagine what a big deal it is in Europe. Sad.

In Western Europe interracial dating is so common that the vast majority of people don't think it's strange at all. In Eastern Europe it's different.
