Cheehaw, fraud and deceit are rife and probably always will be. You are not naive so I am surprised you said that. Like false hope, a false dawn!

You were raised as a Catholic so what put you off?

Love / Scottish & Polish relationships [229]

A small break in a relationship really reignites the flame. My wife is such a loving person, even more so for having been away for a week. God Bless her!!

America took their side a long time ago so they have to live with that. You don't see Britain giving Israel huge sums of aid. I think it was the 1973 war that the Israelis had as good as lost but they won it through using American money.

Anyway, this is about crucifixes in Polish schools. I don't see many with much knowledge of theology here and that's disappointing. I wonder if people here know why they are Catholic and not a Protestant Christian.

Religion flourishes in countries like Nigeria, true enough. However, I think you'll find that the Orthodox faith remains strong in those countries which follow it. I really don't think you can say religion is dwindling as the stats are often misleading on that one.

As for the thread, I don't see a problem. Asides from the funny Bill Hicks joke about Jesus returning to see all the crosses and having a hissyfit, they have pride of place here. It may actually encourage people to think about it, rather than just slap on those labels.

No, 95% are Catholic. My wife is one of those 5% that isn't. Besides, as few as 60% practise.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

A liberal goy, that's hardly an insult. Goy, singling out all non-Jews, that really says sth about you. The Poles let you set up your own communities and granted you a heck of a lot of leeway. You didn't even bother to learn their language, you just tried to set up a base. Poland and Russia housed so many Jews.

A thing of the past? What garbage!! Just because the RCC is dwindling, don't turn that on other religious denominations. The Orthodox followers in Serbia and Russia are going very strong. Protestantism still gets a very solid following.

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8378871.stm, how disgusting!! Netanyahu trying to present himself as a nice guy when he is only offering back 'occupied' territory.

And this Brutal Butcher clown claims it isn't about land :)

When those radicals start talking about domination, they can forget any credibility or respect. In the West, we are often not happy with what our leaders do but we don't resort to jihadist ways.

I already mentioned Oslo in another post. It still centres around land discussions these days, post ICJ 2004. Of course it's about land.

Fighting gets you nowhere? Yes and no, it depends on the nature of the conflict. You can't go making blanket statements like that. If Arafat rejected Oslo, which was attractive for the Palestinians, then what hope have we? Hamas and the Likudists will not even accept the preconditions for peace so what's your point? As long as there are two-faced politicians like Hillary Clinton there, nothing will get done.

Look at Tianenmen Square. Was fighting wholly ineffective? I think not!

Not a land conflict? That's about the single most stupid thing I have read in a long time. So explain to me why, even now, Netanyahu's ultra right-wing hawks are discussing the reclaim of lands from the 6-day war in 1967? The settlements are about the sky, are they? Wow, I thought they were about the land ;) Israel talks non-stop of the Holy Land and being the Chosen Ones. You are blind if you don't see that.

Everything ultimately comes back to territory. Look at NI. Ask SeanBM or RevokeNice, whoever that comes from Ireland or NI and they will tell you that it is not strictly about religion though places like the Shankhill Road play their part. It comes down to the claiming of land recognised as your turf.

I understand very well the position in the ME. I have just finished reading one of the best texts on the area.

BBut, I think it is you who needs to read up a bit more.

Lesser, don't confuse regular classroom topics like Math, Biology and Geography, for example, with Religious Education (RE). Remember, it was YOU that said they should take religious discussions outwith the classroom and let the parents teach it. We just come from a different background. For example, I did RE in school and got 100% in my major exam (high school). I knew that I could do extra study for myself then.

What am I getting at? NOT ONCE have I heard anybody discussing the Bible here in the streets or class, Lesser. Now I'd understand if they wanted to improve their knowledge of the Holy Book by going to a priest. However, he is for things like confession (even though Jesus absolved us anyway) and general belief as much as anything. I can believe and feel God around me without the need for a priest, trust me on that!

Babinich, this is the inherent danger of the Bible and misinterpretation. I was discussing forgiveness, justification and satisfaction. Many believe, rightly or wrongly, that Jesus's sacrifice was enough through imputation. You are discussing Apostles as the general preachers of the Gospel, sth which came to be after the casting of the net wider. Initially, they were of greater importance in Judaism as there was a clear separation between Jews and Gentiles. All of the Apostles were Jews I think. Christianity, mainly Catholicism, changed things to capture their services.

Brutal Butcher, you are treading on eggshells with your insinuations. I am not a Hamas supporter. If I was, there would be no way that I could say such things like "I pray for your safety" to yehudi. I understand their resistance struggle and believe that there needs to be a countermeasure to the some of the oppressive actions of the IDF and decisions of the Knesset. However, they have 2 wings. One is the military option and the other more mainstream. I don't hold out much hope for reform.

Why? Because I see through the lies and the gross insincerity of discussing 'peace'. Unfortunately, Hamas are not achieving much by way of meaningful change due to the polarity of their objectives Vs Likudists.

BBut, I'm asking you nicely, stop the labelling! I don't support Hamas for the simple reason that they would target innocent Jews given half a chance. However, I believe that there needs to be a group like them to combat oppression as their politicians over the years have been wholly inept.

I'm not going to second guess Hamas, sjam. They are in a bad state as even the Israelis don't have enough proper drinking water. They have to import it from Turkey.

They are not doing themselves any favours are Hamas.

I don't seek to defend Hamas either but neither of those 2 groups are conducting any form of investigation. If they don't, they may well face international court action. Whoopdeedoo I guess as international law is about as credible as a fart in the wind.

It didn't work, did it? For mass murder, very little has been done. Is that what they wanted?

Those rockets were like flies, yehudi. How many deaths did they cause? I'll say this again, they'd need 50 years to kill as many as the IDF did in 3 weeks. I'm sorry, your logic is flawed. So I should be killed for the actions of my brother, should I? Goldstone says Israel definitely didn't take enough care to minimise civilian casualties. It is just an excuse and, frankly, a pathetically lame one.

Your Shin Bet could have done it, yehudi. Hamas barely put up a fight. Sad to see Israeli using pretexts for mass murder campaigns.

It doesn't suit Hamas if some of their family members die, outwith martyrs of course.

Maybe you'd be a fan of getting a disproportionate kick in the nuts too, right?

What did those innocent Palestinian mothers and kids do to deserve being massacred? If murder is so heinous then this should be almost unforgivable!! It was mass murder.

Brutal Butcher, you deserve to be banned for such insensitive comments. Say such a thing again and I'll make sure that you are.

News / Crucifixes to stay in Polish schools [364]

Not ONE of the Apostles offered to be God as only God forgives us. Not ONE of them tried to enter into such sacrilege. Judaism also states that man alone cannot play God.

Jesus was sacrificed on the cross for all our future sins. That was a poor comeback, Babinich. Try looking at the difference between Paul and James.

Let me guess, you are an avid fan of the Council of Trent?

History / Poland and Muslims (Tatars and others). [81]

Crow, if that is true what you say then there would be a backlash against Turks here. The truth is, the Poles benefit from the Turkish presence here. Polish history is geared very much towards WWII and the confirmation of PiƂsudski's greatest fears.

I doubt that many Poles are even aware of Zawiszy the Black or others. Poland could side just as much with Croatia as it could with Serbia, esp if Poles see videos of the Serbs shelling Catholic churches in Dubrovnik and other parts of Croatia. Now we both know that those videos were based on propaganda and half-truths but many Poles just haven't been conditioned to take the Serbian side.

Tatars? Well, I know one here and she is accepted.

Well enlighten me, Babinich. The Apostles, to my knowledge, don't make any reference to a priest being needed. Quote me a half statement and I will catch you out.

Because people can learn the messages for themselves, lesser, and not contribute to a profit-making organisation.

Try Timothy 2.5. I can quote you many more but it is crystal clear. 'For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus'.

'Who can forgive sins but God only?' in Mark 2:7

I can easily go on and one, lesser. Judaism and Protestantism reject the notion that you can play God by giving forgiveness. Jesus forgave us all on the cross, that was his sacrifice to humanity.

God's Grace is bestowed on you automatically, it is imputed.
