Love / My boyfriend from Poland - cannot contact him [12]

Old thread! Nevetheless, be boy/girl friends or just "friends", Poles are able to play dead and cut all contacts overnight inspite of great relationship. For me, it's low, immature and very rude but that's the way alot of people do here ..... I have never come across such a behavior with any other nationality.

Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

I don't think that our western culture is so bad since it has been adopted around the world, including in Poland. Except in backwards areas of Polska B, where do we have Polish culture? Poles eat western food, shop at western shops, watch western films and tv programs, work for western companies, drive western cars on western financed roads, wear western clothes and western make up, etc etc ...

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

Fortunately, Polish justice (at least Cracow court) means to remain independent and I hope that all Polish courts shall do the same inspite of likely intimidation from Kaczynski and his clique. Well, Polish judges and lawyers shall respond in appropriate manner.

PS: for the LAST time as I don't want to feed bashers: @Maf: you do NOT know anything re DSK's situation. In France, he had several trials but was never condemned (courts need material proofs and it's good news ;)). As to his problem while in IMF, as everybody knows in France, it was organized by his (French opponents, there are material proofs) since it was almost clear that DSK was to win election. Case closed because this bashing (Anglo proletariat's trademark) is completely senseless and shows obvious lack of intelligence and is also irrelevant to topic and to POLISH forum.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

I said last week that Kukiz would do well in GB ;) ;);). I would not call Poles moving abroad for bread "émigrés" since in history the term was used for political refugees of rather high caliber.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

Kaszynski, as a lawyer, does know that the matter is very complicated since several countries concerned but as a cheap populist, he pretends that everything is so easy to please his followers who of course are completely ignorant and buy any bs. I am shocked because I did not know how low he is....

@Maf; As I said, since France does NOT allow for the extradiction of their own citizens (not the only country), said French citizens who are accused of wrongdoings abroad are judged and (if necessary) condemned in France, where they serve their sentenses. The idea is that France as a democratic country entitles all their citizens to fair trials but unfortunately in most countries, fair trials do not exist and some countries even have death penalty. Since of course, you don't know anything re law, re diplomacy and also re French situation, you just talk bs and shows how ignorant you are! I don't need to rely on Wiki's bs, contrary to you! ;)

I am concerned about laws and the technical aspect of the whole situation, not any particular case.

The PF's underclass mob of course know better ;).

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Absolutely, Dougpol! Of course cheap demagogy does not explain all the legal aspects but relies on mob rule (it works well in PF ;)).

In case of BInationals, it is very often most complicated and in case of Polanski, he is (also?) the citizen of a country which does not allow extradiction of their own people. No, Maf, France does not protect rapists, they judge them ;). When French people are in France but suspected of wrongdoings abroad, they are judged in France and do their time in French jails. France shall not change their laws to please Kaszynski.. "lol"

At best, case shall take years and years and Polanski and also Kaszuynski shall be dead in the meantime..

@Maf: 1. how do you know that he is a "rapist"??? 2. France does NOT extradict their citizens BUT French justice deals with those guilty of wrong doing abroad ;). Of course, for a primitive basher, too hard to get informed and to understand ;)

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Polsyr: Absolutely, pure populism! If they were able to think 1/2 a second, they would realize that in case of binationals, things are very complicated. Polish justice may condemn Polanski but since he's also a citizen of a country which does NOT extradict their citizens, the case shall take years and years and shall never be settled as Polanski shall be dead by then.

I personally don't like Kaszynski but I did not know he was so stupid. As a lawyer, doesn't he know?

(of course, situation is different, but yesterday because of current thread, I thought about Julian Assange. Since protected from a (Ecuadorian?) government, neither UK nor Sweden can do anything against him).

Besides, how come Polish government intervenes in a court case? Is justice in Poland not independent?

PS: strange enough, yesterday when I googled, I did find nothing in French so obviously only a Kazynski's sick mind and French authorities do not feel concerned because nothing to be concerned about and should Polanski be so afraid, he would lock himself up in his Paris apartment ;).

Doesn't Poland have more serious problems to deal with?

@Maf; since Polanski is ALSO (or only?) a French citizen, France is also to be involved in matter (normal) and as I said, case is very complicated and far beyond Kaszynski's competence and whims...

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Shaman: of course, he can be questioned, a Polish court may even decide against him (and he can appeal) BUT since he has TWO nationalities, France shall also have to intervene and the case shall last years and years and Polanski shall be dead in the meantime. I thought Kaszynski was a lawyer, how can't he be aware of this???? ;). Polanski may also go up to Strasbourg Court of Justice.

At worst (for Polanski), Polish, French and American governments shall have to negotiate and of course it'll take years ;).

Also very strange that justice is not independent from politicians in Poland ;).

USA, Canada / Any Polish Mechanics that Speak English? South Dakota job. [7]

and how about work permit? ;). Potential employer shall need to prove to the INS guys that no American/resident can do the job and I seriously doubt it;). Why hiring Poles instead? Just to pay them less? I know that very often people have no idea what it takes to move/work abroad.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Shaman: you are really stubborn ;). This is plain bs. Am now watching Swiss news on Swiss channel and ... nothing! Besides, there are international laws and Poland is not above them. Polanski does not live in Poland (why should he?) and as also a French citizen, the Polish goverment cannot do anything against him (normal). There is a huge difference between what Kaszynski may wish and what he can do. Even dictatorships don't do it because they know they cannot.

@Shaman: source Yahoo.com (26.10) "Polanski is safe when staying in France because French law does NOT extradict their citizens" and therefore Kaszynski may say whatever he wants..... Whether you like it or not, the world is very complex and Kaszynski is not some sort of a "living god" with supernatural powers and above international laws. If matter is considered, it shall take years because several countries (including Switzerland since he is a resident there) involved and Polanski shall be dead by then...

Sorry to rain on your parade! ;)

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Shaman: in France, "soil" prevails (that's the reason why for instance so many women in nearby South America go to French Guiana or women from Comores Islands go to Mayotte to deliver their kids because kids born on French soil are automatically French). Therefore, Polanski as born in France, can claim French citizenship from birth on (+ French wife and kids) and Kaszynski or anyone can do nothing against Polanski.

Instead of barking in the desert, Kaszynski should learn about international laws.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Johnny: in order to have French citizenship taken away from them, foreigners have to be guilty of killing cops and if I am not wrong it happened only twice in several hundreds of years.

Kaszynski got yelled at by Swedish ambassador to Poland recently for saying bs about Sweden and now he shows that he does not know anything re international laws ;).

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

@Johnny: if you say that Polanski was issued French citizenship after the "situation", as he was born in France, I don't think it'd would be very hard for him to get citizenship from birth on (citizenship in France is based upon "soil" and not blood). Kaczynski shall soon realize there is nothing he can do..

True too, Pol and the same applies to all religions. I have met quite a few "Jews" and "Muslims" eating pork (I don't), including Jews working, shopping on Saturdays and "Muslims" driking much more than I do .... We can find everthing among religious people...

@Doug: Polański can sleep without worrying. In his "case", 3 countries would be involved (he's also a French citizen and lives in France and in Switzerland and on top of that Switzerland is not in EU ;)) so Kaszyński talked nonsense! ;)

History / How come Polonization never works? [87]

@Levy: I just gave a few examples among kids but also adults in Poland are completely westernized. Poland has become a sort of ... Western colony and hardly anything now is Polish. I live in Poland and close to EVERYTHING I buy comes from foreign companies. The only Polish things I do buy are potatoes and apples;). Most Poles are the same, they shop at foreign shops, and buy foreign products....Not hard to buy foreign in Poland since almost everything is foreign.

Sorry, but to say that Poles fight for their culture is the worst thing we can think of. It's rather the opposite, Poles let themselves swallowed in by the West.......

Work / Is it difficult finding a job for Japanese people in Warsaw? Have you seen Japanese people working here? [12]

@Dany: you are talking about ONE case and regarding your friend, they must have been desperate as could not find anybody and I'm sure they pay him peanuts... Does your friend has a work permit or is he working illegally? ;)

Yes, NON EU citizens need work permits in Poland (makes sense) and in order to get one, the foreigner needs to have a steady FULL TIME job/INCOME + NFZ coverage (makes sense again) and if teaching a few classes once in a while (how many Polish clients for Japanese???? Besides, like I said, being a native of any language does not make the person a teacher ;). I studied 4 years at the university in order to become a teacher but of course I'm paid much more than unqualified "teachers" who are often barely literate ;))) through language schools; it does not qualifiy for work permit and as a result, it's illegal work and if caught... ;).

So you don't know how it works for NON EU people .... !!!!!!

PS @Dany: I seriously doubt that your friend qualifies for a work permit ;). The authorities demand a livable job/income and not some occasional work ;). I assume your friend is a student so has a student visa and "teaches" a few classes under the table now and then so not the OP's situation ;).

Life / Halloween or Andrzejki - which is more popular in Poland? [14]

@Doug: as you say, in pubs and bars, mostly those for expats ;). I maintain that most Poles are not concerned. I know for instance asking several Polish kids attending Polish schools that at school they do nothing for Halloween. Inspite of what Anglo-saxon expats would like, Halloween is not celebrated in neither Poland and nor in continental Europe. A few bars and pubs don't even represent 0.1% of total population and if I recall right, the Catholic Church is against that paigan holiday ;)

@Doug: for instance, now, quite a few bars/restaurants in Poland "celebrate" Beaujolais Nouveau (3rd thursday in November) and even "Galette des Rois" or "July 14th" (in Saska Kępa, they even have events held whole day on ul. Francuska on 14.7) but I would NOT say that these events are normally celebrated in Poland ;). They are just anecdotic, just like is Halloween, which may be celebrated by a few hundreds of Poles ;). Such foreign events are celebrated by expats and very few Poles who gather around them. Don't confuse tiny minorities with whole or majorities ;)

Work / Is it difficult finding a job for Japanese people in Warsaw? Have you seen Japanese people working here? [12]

@Dany: sure but in case of OP, he/she needs a work permit and in order to be issued one, he/she needs full time job/income (common sense) and the very few Japanese classes he/she might get (provided that he/she is qualified, being a native speaker does not mean person is able to teach ;)) once in a while won't be enough 1. to eat and 2. to be issued a work permit. I for instance have a friend from America (of Polish origin) who has to put up with a lousy job at a gymnazjum in order to be able to receive residence + work permits. She has a regular (= 12 months) "livable" (by Polish standards) income + NFZ coverage and therefore can qualify for residence/work permits. As a NON-EU citizen, OP needs a real job, not occasional classes now and then. As to work at the university, without proper diplomas and qualifications, forget it and it's normal. Do you think they hire anybody? ;) Please get back on earth ;).

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

@Kpc: absolutely! and yes, Razem's program has nothing revolutionnary. And yes, they agree with "free market economy". Among Polish political parties, none wants to return prior to 1989. Some like Razem, ZL, SLD (others?) want to reduce unequality between the rich and the poor, to make things a bit easier for the society's weakest but only simple minds as Levy's (who doesn't even live in Poland) label them "communist or consorts".

I am sure that Razem through Zandberg shall move ahead and why not a larger party together with people such as B. Nowacka, W. Nowicka, R. Biedroń and a few other competent and open minded people of the kind? I would not be surprised should it happen ...

@Kpc: Razem had people all day last Friday (or Thursday, I don't quite remember now) in front of Centrum Metro Station (if you live in Warsaw). They were discussing (and offering coffee) and in the morning there were even tv journalists with them. Yes, I believe that thanks to Zandberg, they'll grow...

Work / Is it difficult finding a job for Japanese people in Warsaw? Have you seen Japanese people working here? [12]

@Dani: OP might get a few random classes through language schools but not enough to eat and also to be issued work permit. Authorities require "real" and steady employment, not a few classes on occasions ;). As to teaching at the university, don't you expect that suitable diplomas are needed?

PS: "as to your "most" Poles speaking "English", I'm sure you have never met Poles outside of students' circles ;).
