Law / Non-EU citizen, student, prolonging Polish National Visa [4]

In order to prolong your stay in Poland you need to apply for a residence permit for a fixed period. You have a right to obtain it if you fulfill one of certain requirements, for example: undertaking employment, intention to continue education or a vocational training, participation in professional trainings and internships under European Union programmes.

But I've found a postscript saying that extension of Poland's visa is possible only in exceptional circumstances..

Law / Marriage laws in 1953 in Poland - foreign WOMAN married a Polish MAN in HER country [2]

In 1953, if a foreign WOMAN married a Polish MAN in HER country, did she renounce Italian status and become Polish?

As published in Ustawa from 8th January 1951 about Polish Citizenship, Article 10:
1. A foreigner may be granted Polish citizenship at his request.
2. Polish granting of citizenship may depend on submitting evidence of exemption from foreign nationality
source: your poland/userfiles/pdfs/ustawa-1951.pdf

But here is the phrase "may depend" - so it could mean that it wasn't always necessary?

Classifieds / Monster X tour in Poland [4]

Have you been there maybe?
I saw one Monster truck closely at some exhibition, the biggest impression on me made the size of the wheels - they were almost my height!

I definitely would like to see some in action :)

Language / Collection of learning resources for learning the Polish language [129]

Probably you're right - it's not only your opinion...

...she had two books for me. One was "Everyday Polish for Americans," and the second was "Polish for Pleasure, A Supplement to Everyday Polish for Americans." The latter is 60 five-minute lessons, and the first is one of the absolute best books I have ever read to teach one how to learn a language, in this case Polish.
The authors are the couple who gave me the books, Edward and Teresa Cynarski. In 1993 the Society of Polish American Culture of Western Massachusetts, based in Chicopee, began a series of Polish-speaking classes for adults at St. Stanlislaus School.

Interesting story of person who met the couple - authors of this book.
Btw. It's not easy to buy it unfortunately.

Law / Bank Account in Euros - Is it possible to negotiate exchange rates to zloty with a Polish bank? [24]

How much does using Walutomat?
Walutomat charges a commission on the value of the executed order of 0.2%.

Discounts
Walutomat grants a discount for users who have exchanged within a month the equivalent of at least 200 000 PLN.

The discount depends on the value of monthly transactions:
turnover of up to 200 000 PLN commission of 0.2%
turnover of 200 000 to 1 million PLN - commission of 0.15% (25% discount)
turnover of 1 million to 3 million PLN - commission of 0.1% (50% discount)

I've used Walutomat couple of times, they charged me 0,2% from a transaction.

Recently I've noticed wymieniajtaniej.pl site - they clam that they won't charge me if I have account in one of the following banks:

PKO BP,
PEKAO SA,
BZ WBK
KREDYT BANK
MBANK (former MULTIBANK and BRE BANK)
MILLENNIUM
BNP PARIBAS
ALIOR BANK
RAIFFEISEN POLBANK

There's also option for negotiation:

Law / Poland's Work permit questions - visiting European countries; working in the EU / switching job; dependants [86]

Everything I know is from the site I mentioned at the beginning.
It is worth also to contact Polish embassy in Pakistan and ask which visa you should apply, give them all informations that you have about employer, place of work, what documents you posess etc. Ask about the insurance - how to get it from your place (you need it at the border)

Read here what you need from employer:

The employer prepares a statement containing: employer data, personal data of the foreigner the employer intends to hire, the start date and duration of the work and the type of work to be performed, the amount of gross pay (what is gross remuneration ->), profession and place of work ...

The employer delivers the original declaration to the foreigner; if the foreigner is living abroad, the document should be sent abroad

The registered declaration constitutes the basis for the foreigner to be granted

Law / Bank Account in Euros - Is it possible to negotiate exchange rates to zloty with a Polish bank? [24]

It is better to be careful and do not go alone in the case of larger amounts, It's more safe to separate transaction for a few exchange offices and smaller amounts. Anyway it's worth the trouble, since bank rates are lower.

Other option worth considering would be exchange office online. I used one couple times without any problems (although amounts were much lower than yours), it's convenient, you don't need to carry the money nowhere, the rates are better comparing to any local bureau and it's safe in my opinion (sums more than 5.000 are also negotiable)

The site below compares rates of online exchange offices (put amount of money, currency, and name of your bank):

Life / Internet / Telephone provider in Krakow [28]

People complain that it's not 80mb internet, the download speed is much lower. The provider guarantees only bandwidth from 20 up to 80mb. What you get depends also how are you connected, optimal is direct cable connection, if wi-fi it should to be 802.11n type, on the b/g you'll get just 20-25max download. Other factors include the time of day (morning and nights speed may be better) and the device - people criticize Modem VDSL 3764, better is FunBox, but optimal Livebox 3.

Upload speed is more less like advertised - 8mb.
Overall since the price difference is not big (10PLN?) it's worth to have the 80mb rather than 20mb/s, but do not expect huge download speed difference. What I could see from the comments, the max was less than 60mb, but most (among those complainers) get 30mb and lower.

Life / Polish Healthcare Advice; Crohn's disease treatment [2]

In Poland a infliximab (trade name Remicade) therapy is in use. It's hard to get it quick through standard health insurance (as any more serious disease therapy in our country), but you may register 'in private' for one of the specialists. I read that the therapy cost is about 80.000-100.000PLN.

I've found one known and respected doctor in Krakow - he is chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Clinic in Jagiellonian University.

I'm not sure if the address data are still valid, but you'll find more info about this specialist online.

UK, Ireland / Polish TV in Ireland - is it possible to get access to it here? [6]

I live in an apartment complex that doesn't allow us to put up satellite dishes.

You may buy a non-invasive stands for satellite dishes - for the windows:

Non-invasive stand for small satellite dishes mounted without drilling into the recess. The ideal product for mounting the antenna in places where you can not pierce the walls. Very quick and easy assembly and disassembly without the need for keys. The handle can be used for antennas up to 75cm and weighing up to 8kg. The upper part of the handle is telescopic dimension of 800-1200mm. Pipe diameter 35mm below the antenna. The handle is made of aluminum by a very light - painted in silver color - matt.

or for balcony:

Rigid, welded, wind-resistant design of a well-protected against corrosion (hot dip galvanized). To charge enough to buy four concrete tiles 50x50cm. Mast diameter 60mm, length - 1m (mast uniform). The base exploded twist set on a flat surface is 103x111cm. It does not require drilling into the ground (though if you need to you can instead charge the plates fixed to the ground pins). Perfect for terrace, flat roof, a place where it is not possible interference in the ground - without installing stand permanently. Can be used for larger antennas (even 150cm).

Another soulution would be some kind of Internet TV package (use search button on PF and find more detailed info)

Real Estate / Sub rent and stolen deposit (renting a flat in Warsaw) [6]

According to the law, the deposit must be paid within one month of leaving the apartment.
But you wasn't careful enough - where's your copy of the contract? It will be tough to do anything without it. It is required to scan this document and sent to the authority dealing with the case, for example to Electronic Writ Procedure - E-court: e-sad.gov.pl/Default.aspx.

Here you have two email addresses to legal clinic. They provide free and comprehensive advice on how to recover the deposit. info@nadmorski24.pl or porady@prawo-wiz.pl

Law / Poland's Work permit questions - visiting European countries; working in the EU / switching job; dependants [86]

You need to have proper medical insurance policy while entering the territory of Poland. Often the employer provides it - then this requirement may be regarded as fulfilled if the job is legal.

could i buy the insurance policy

An individual legally residing in Poland, who is not subject to the obligatory healthcare insurance requirement, can voluntarily purchase healthcare insurance. In order to do that, the individual must apply to the appropriate voivodship NFZ (NHF) branch competent for her/his place of residence
