Life / You are Polish if... [433]

you have the endurance to watch your national football team every time, even though they havent won a meaningful game for over 30 years

How could I not?It's my duty :)

your idea of a healthy lifestyle is szmalec, golonka, alcohol and cigarettes

It's not a healthy lifestyle.It's the healthiest :D

you can down a bottle of wodka and still talk and walk straight

Depends on the bottle.1l is to much for me.

you hit things thinking they will start working again

It's a proven fixing technique :)

I would say for me consider other person as fellow Pole it's a mix of ancestry, citizenship, language, cultural/ historical awareness and "feeling Polish". Not all are necessary, but just one is a bit to little.

Same with me

Love / Polish couples living out of wedlock? [108]

Care to tell us how much the American School of Warsaw gets? Or the British school?

I don't know how it works if the shool is run by foreign country. But the subventions are given to all types of private shools.

I have seen anti

That's the the part that's annoying me.I'm trying to be fair (I sometimes fail since I'm not a saint) and never offend ppl that I don't know.

RE lessons are compulsory till 16 years of age, you can opt out but need parental permission to do so.

In Poland ( theoretically) you have to sign to attend RE.Because of so many children(or parents)
choosing to go to RE usually it means that parents have to write-out of it.

I'm sick of Catholic bashing, don’t like Catholics fine just don’t make stuff up.

Exactly.I have many issues with clergy but...

Could you perhaps name the primary schools in south central Warsaw which are entirely funded by religious orders?

EVERY school gets subventions. If you want to start atheists school you will get one.

I am entirely certain that I heard the mother in question complaining (before her kid was denied a place) about the interview process.

No such thing in public schools(meaning-ENTIRELY founded by the state).

However, it was state funded, so Sean and I are paying the wages of those bigots.

AGAIN-you're paying for every school.

Which it could be.

NO.

They create a folder when you get baptised ;)

Exactly.

arry: “INFORMATION: I wish to inform you that X, son of Y and Z, residing at ABC Street, has resigned from Religious Education classes in this school year. Please add this information to the parish files and in future draw the appropriate consequences.” It’s then signed by the priest running the RE classes.

I resigned from RE and the only thing that happened to me is that priests are more inclined to talk to me.Even my parson told me that I'm right nor to take part in RE if I'm not certain and invited me to talk to him if I needed it.And I'm living in small town.

Life / did/does Polish TV show any British Sitcoms? [35]

I thought he meant on the main channels that are free to air, not cable or subscription.

I never fought of this.

I would have thought ridiculing priests would have been frowned upon by the 'establishment'. Am I wrong in thinking that?

One word:Ranczo :)
Benny Hill and Mr Been-I never understood what's so funny.

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

Having world-wide contracts means ' nada '

Actually it means they have very good position on the market. The problem started when the Swedes took part in another project in Poland and it failed. It was their right of course since it was their company but now many ppl don't know what's going to happen. And if that company is going to bunkrupt my region is going to hurt badly.

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

Just in my area:
Big company with world-wide contracts-sold to Swedes. a couple of years ago.Still exists but the company that bought it has financial problems and we don't know what's going to happen-the biggest employer in the region.

Sugar factory-bought by German company and closed as soon as they could. They just got rid of their competition.
Dairy bought by German company and we don't know what's going to happen. For now all our local products have vanished from shops.

And this is just ONE town and not all companies,
I don't want to say that it's UE fault but don't tell me that there was no industry in Poland.

Travel / Going to Poland and looking for some antiques [24]

Actually I would. And this is about something else-we have so little antiques left that we choose to control it.It's our right. As well as other countries have the right to make their laws.

It is the same crap over and over again. Poles can do what they want in any foreign country but if it were the reverse then Poles are up in arms.

Actually you're doing it.I told you I have nothing agaist it if it was LEGAL.

Ever been to the Kolo market? I have. It is full of foreign items. How did they get there? don't answer because I already know.

If Poles brought them here ILLEGALY I'M NOT OK WITH THAT.
All I'm arguing is that it should be done in the proper way.

Love / Polish couples living out of wedlock? [108]

A state-funded school in Warsaw Poland did that exact thing.

State founded-maybe.Private shools get money from government. If you meant PUBLIC school I still don't believe that.ESPECIALLY in Warsaw. If you told me it was somewhere in small village I might have believed you but Warsaw? Are you serious?

I said a couple of years ago but now I think about it more, it would have been more like four or five years ago (time flies).

I was in elemantary school a long time ago and in my school were children of inmarried couples.

Great: ask them how St. Dominik Savio in Lubin survives given that it charges the parents nothing and according to Magda gets nothing from the state either.

Private schools get subventions from government.Besides maybe there're sponsors?
Either way it has nothing to do with the story you told.

Love / Polish couples living out of wedlock? [108]

The truth was that the kid was rejected because the parents were not married.

That's piece of...something smelly.Do you really want us to believe that public school refused a child because his/her parents weren't married? When was that?In 1925?

I want to add that my family has beed working in schools for last 4 decades.

What do you think of Polish couples living in sin, bringing out-of-wedlock babies into the world and not even bothering to baptise them? Why do you think so?

Because that's the way they want it?I wouldn't baptise my child as well.

right because all the antiques bought by Poles and driven or imported into Poland are all legal

Probably not but I would act the same no matter who wrote it.

still a double standard.

?

If you don't want others to do it--then do something to regulate the import from other countries to Poland.

I'd be happy to but I don't have legislative power.

We all know how law abiding Poles are.

will not get stopped. don't worry.

And as we can see you're all integrity.

lets be realistic shall we. How many Polish companies are importing antiques? double standard, no?

And I have nothing against someone buying antiques in Poland and selling somewhere else but do it the legal way.

UK, Ireland / Domestic arguments caused by differences between Polish and English culture [109]

what, like saying 'tonnis' instead of 'tennis'?

I never heard that one.

Ok, simple error - so then when someone says 'oops - sorry - not right' - you say 'oops - sorry - yes' - not 'NO, I AM ABSOLUTELY RIGHT AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. WHAT, YOU RECKON YOU KNOW JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A (sneeringly said) 'NATIVE' ENGLISH SPEAKER???'.

That's stupid and the only explanation I can think of is low self-esteem.When they feel challenged they will defend their point fiercly.
P.S.I edited my earlier post:

And if it's really so "of course" give me one logical reason for putting salt and pepper in the pots you said they should be in.

Don't be ridiculous.

Is it really so important?Put your spices where you want them to be.And if it's really so "of course" give me one logical reason for putting salt and pepper in the pots you said they should be in.

It is one of those crazy Polish things where they get the wrong end of the stick and then suddenly 4 million people are saying that is the right end of the stick. Like 'Babington'

Some ppl really say badmington but that's incorrect. It's simple error.

News / Polish teenager pregnant after rape - A recent result to an older story [34]

Even the pro-abortion side has put aside the argument that it isn't the killing of human life

For me, in the first period, it's just a cell.Every month I'm throwing out something that someday may be a human being.

The duty of a physician is to heal the sick and restore the health of the ailing.

That's right and what about the women right not to be killed during childbirth?

yet that patient wants that certain procedure,

Women cannot decide. The governmenty does-in some situations. Why should the life on unborn child was more important than the life of the mother?

Do we allow them to refuse to carry out certain operations such as blood transfusions on religious grounds?

To some extend.Example with blood transfusion is pretty good.

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

Does this effect what you think of the Ukrainian people today? Just curious.

Of course not.It would be stupid. Some ppl hurt my family but they are probably dead now.Why should I hate the whole nation for the doings of a few ,probably desperate, ppl.I don't want to say that it was all right to kill that young boy but the whole nation has nothing to do with it.Although I can understand that some wounds are too deep to heal and old ppl have the right to feel anger for what they expirienced.

You see, people are so stupidly careless...

It was careless but does it justify murder?
