News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

If that happens it's going to be civil war (also in France).

Probably not a full blown civil war, but a take over of most countries in Europe by ultra right wingers and fascist elements. Especially once the migrants are allowed to reunite with their families according to the Geneva Convention. There's a chance that Muslims in Europe will end up like the ethnic Japanese in the US during WW2, or worse.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

When things get bad the targets will not be hapless unintegrating muslim migrants but rather the government itself

if Chancellor Merkel doesn't get her act together by summer of next year, she'll lose to AfD with little question

It's a bit more complicated than that. Even if the AfD wins 40% of the vote, the other parties will form a coalition which will make sure that the right wingers can't grab power (much like the system in France). Germany will most likely end up with a coalition of SPD, Linke and Greens - a nightmare which will ruin the country once and for all because they are worse than 100 Bernie Sanders. At the moment they are blocking anything that would make it easier to deport migrants.

Would German gelingen be a synonym in this case as in: Das wird uns gelingen?

"Gelingen" is more like "to succeed". You can't really use it as a substitute for "Wir schaffen das" (meaning "We will manage!"). "Das wird uns gelingen" is also somewhat old-fashioned.

News / Poland's political crisis deepens [228]

Beautifully said...

... and total BS as usual. Trump is the president-elect and as such, every single one of his actions and stupid tweets are seen by the world as a reflection of the position of the incoming US administration.

it is true that both deeply religious people and complete atheists can feel at home in the US

Until you do a little research and find out that rapists and pedophiles have a better reputation in the US than atheists...

UK, Ireland / Polish Spouse VISA in the UK [9]

Dont assume there is a special deal in the uk for Australians.

Exactly. There's the Working Holiday Visa, the Ancestry Visa and a few others, but those will give you max. 5 years stay, as far as I know.

Life / Millennials even worse than baby-boomers? [60]

society is now burdened with these crop failures

Oh, give me a break. Baby Boomers were considered the biggest losers ever by their own parents. Lazy stoners with long hair protesting against the Vietnam War and listening to weird music ... remember? They got shot or beaten up by the cops and put in jail by bigots like Reagan in CA - exactly the same treatment that our young people will receive as soon as Trump takes office. Every new generation is considered strange and weak by the previous one. That's life.

History / The ongoing de-Germanisation of the Nazis and the Holocaust adds to Poland's Responsibility [124]

1939 was the year German troops pressed into Gleiwitz/Gliwice and declared Poland to be German territory

Wrong! Half of Poland was occupied by someone else.

the Gentile Slav/Sarmatians

Crow?

EUese is always translated into Polish, [why? who knows?].

Because most Polish politicians don't understand English or French?

Outsiders don't know Polish History

Yeah, yeah ... only Poles know Polish history, and only the Polish version of history is correct.

Killing for any reason was permitted. German settlers could kill the evicted Polish families.

Total BS.

History / The ongoing de-Germanisation of the Nazis and the Holocaust adds to Poland's Responsibility [124]

you will not find any Geman who would admit any connection

That will largely depend on the age of the people you're talking to. I've found that the 50+ generation has no problem whatsoever to discuss the 1939-45 era, while the younger generations are simply sick and tired to be blamed for something that their great grandfathers did. Would you expect young Russians to feel guilty for Stalin crimes or discuss them ad infinitum? Of course not.

History / German history of my new home in Poland [30]

@ Iron

Forgot to say: most documents that have survived the war are now in Polish state archives. Some of them get published online, others require a visit, and many are still inaccesible to the public.

History / German history of my new home in Poland [30]

Who told you that...?

A Polish district court, Iron. Most newer land deed records were worthless because they were only held for 50 years anyway unless there was a mortgage/ loan or something on the property. Politically motivated destruction of these records took place in both the "Recovered Territories" as well as in areas of Poland where ethnic Germans had stayed behind after the country regained its independence. The Russians did the same in East Prussia.

Most papers where taken by the Nazi German official when they were running west from the Soviets

That's a myth. The Nazis didn't care too much about these documents for the above mentioned reasons. They even left most vital records behind, which were much more valuable.

Where would you start with no German language knowledge?

Go to the nearest District Court (Sąd Rejonowy?) and try to obtain copies of the old pre WW2 land records. They will tell you the history of the house and its previous owners. You'll have to be very lucky though since many of these documents were deliberately destroyed by the Soviets and the Polish commies right after the war.

News / Facebook censors nationalists and their planned 11 Nov. march in Poland [50]

That is not entirely true and you know it.

Countries like North Korea or China might be able to suppress information, opinions and web sites, but only at a huge cost and only to a certain extent. In the end there is always another server somewhere on the web where the information they wanted to suppress will be mirrored.

And Facebook office in Warsaw is in a virtual world, isn't it?

And? They simply close it and that was that. Do you really believe that Facebook executives care about a handful of - as Pol3 liked to call them - nationalist organizations in Poland throwing a hissy fit? Certain content is unwanted as stated in Facebook's Community Standards. You don't like it? Then don't sign up and carry your business elsewhere. If the decision to ban certain content (and the reasoning behind it) is always justifiable is a whole different question.

those are rules for monopolistic international that want to impose their own laws and customs

The WWW is international; national governments cannot control it unless you want something like North Korea. And don't forget that companies like Facebook or Twitter are only successful as long as they maintain a strong user base.

If an American company like Facebook want to operate in Poland should apply Polish laws to their 'standards'.

That's what you would think, but the situation is a bit more complicated. Facebook's data centers are located in the US and in Sweden, so pretty much outside the reach of Polish law. If they refuse to follow Polish law (which they certainly would), Poland's only option would be to block Facebook altogether.

Hate speech concept is against freedom of speech.

That's why I asked you if and where you would draw the line. Following your logic, the usage of the phrase "Polish death camp" should be considered free speech, even if Polish law might make it illegal in the future. Correct?

you're supporting censorship that is quite clear.

You are missing the point, Iron. Certain political organizations or views might be legal or accepted in one country, but might not be tolerated in others. There was an American Nazi Party in the US for example which operated in the open protected by freedom of speech. In Germany they would have been arrested and locked away immediately. Polish politicians have approved to ban the use of phrases like "Polish concentration camps", which would be considered a form of censorship in the US. See what I mean?

Facebook laid down their rules in the Community Standards for everyone to read. If you want to use their service, you'll have to follow their rules. Hate speech for example is not allowed. Question is, who determines what is hate speech and what not...

We are talking about legal organizations and monopolistic practises of Facebook in Poland that are discriminatory and ignores law in Poland.

Facebook is a private company with an international user base. If Polish "non-PC organizations and people" (cute description, by the way) have an issue with that, why don't they stop using Facebook then?

Why don't you admit openly that you support censorship!

Don't put words in my mouth, Iron. I was asking you a simple question: where do you want to draw the line if you want to draw one at all?

News / Hypocritical PC dictatorship bans Polish film in Berlin [26]

Plenty of background info on the film here plus 29 reviews by people who've seen it:

Now it's 5072 users who have given a weighted average vote of 1.1 / 10. Must be a really crappy movie.

I now understand why is movie banned from Germany

One movie theater in Berlin decided not to show it, Crow. One! But I now understand why they did it. They were concerned that disappointed customers would smash the cinema to pieces after watching the film...

News / Hypocritical PC dictatorship bans Polish film in Berlin [26]

According to the source that Pol3 provided, it's a tiny movie theater in Charlottenburg that cancelled the show due to security concerns. The movie will still be shown in other cities such as "Hamburg, München, Düsseldorf and Köln".

Please notice that security concerns were given in second place, in first palce was its controversial nature: der Film sei zu kontrovers.

That's not true. Security concerns were mentioned right above and below the headline.

So it's just a pretext for the PC dictatorship to again rear its ugly head, is it?

Nonsense. Maybe the venue is owned by Poles who don't like the movie? :)
