Life / Do Polish people help one another? [40]

I think it is the majority of old biddies that do Poland a disservice. They are hard-nosed and very impolite in the main. The people I work with, all younger, are very helpful and are interested in the teamwork dynamic. Still, I can say the same about Scotland. It's really no different. The old hags are dour-faced sods there too in the main.

They rally around for noble causes like anyone else. A lot of shafting goes on abroad but many Poles do club together to help one another get set up. Also, like anybody else, it depends on their humour at the time. If they are in a bad mood, expect not to be looked at or served begrudgingly. If they are in fine fettle, they will be open and help openly.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Reliability for sure. They want to know that you are dependable and go along with their plans. I've only been off work twice in the last 3 years so I've proven myself to be reliable. You can't plan for illness sometimes.

Moulding, that's a very good word. I have no desire to be overly moulded and I make that clear. I've never been one for following the rules if I feel I have a better vision. Henry Rollins made a good comment, saying 'it's just another version of how people think you should be'.

Roots are important! My marriage has put my feet on the ground for the near future at least.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

Gra słów. Exclusive means that it is of a very high quality. However, exclusive is from the verb to exclude which means to leave out. Some Poles want 'all exclusive' but it means sth different in travel. Rather than everything being luxury and of very high quality, it means that everything is kept out of the price.

Some are about as helpful as a punch in the face. When a culture comes to be hard-nosed and selfish then helping others becomes difficult. Still, many have overcome that and have worked towards endearing themselves to those around them.

A key observation is that many Poles cannot reconcile their romantic visions with reality and that's why they up sticks and leave.

Work / Salary of a paramedic in Poland [22]

Many are gonna struggle with living cheaply and run into huge credit issues before too long. 1200PLN is just a slap in the face! You'd spend more time saving yourself than saving others.

UK, Ireland / Brits to protest against foreigners in the workforce, including Poles. [289]

The point is that they have the power to impose caps but didn't do it (Labour). They don't seem to see that it is better to take steps to prevent problems, rather than spend a lot of time repairing the damage.

The BNP as our main party would send out a bleak message to other European countries and Nick Griffin just doesn't have the air of a statesman (not that Brown is so great either). The UKIP are at least getting the message out there and are currying favour nicely.

Looser than who? I like it when I'm looser, I move around more freely ;) Drunken men :( You think beatings are funny? Cowardice is not to be applauded!

Love / What do foreign women think of Polish men? [120]

There are quite a few potato heads here right enough. Slapheads, the thorn in the side of haircare professionals ;) ;0

Polish men are just men. Some are great, some definitely aren't.

I have to say that, if anyone observes demographic trends, they can be alarming. Although not an advocate of the BNP for the present time, they do have a fixed position (prima facie). Labour made noises but did nothing. They are just as much 'I'm alright Jack' as the Tories. Just look at the expenses scandal for that.

My point is that there may come a time when the BNP will be advantageous in stemming the tide. Personally, I'd prefer the UKIP as they appear to be a bit more sensible but Britain has really lost part of its identity. The only way I could pick out a true Scot was by seeing them reeling through the streets drunk ;) ;) Yes, some multiculturalism but there are limits.

Even 2000PLN, LOL. What a friggin disgrace! That wouldn't even cover my 4 main expenses. Namely, ZUS (840PLN), apartment (950PLN), accountant (183PLN) and tax (450PLN). 2400PLN more or less. Average 1200PLN, what a joke! With shopping, my expenses could easily come to around 3k a month so what use is 1200?

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

you think no food can possibly be better than Polish food (foods are just 'different' anyway, this better crap really gets up my nose)

you ask 'would you like some pizza with your ketchup?' or 'would you like some bigos with your salt?'.

you create a heavy atmosphere unnecessarily, unless you are drinking.

you sometimes don't answer when you are asked sth (in class)

you set aside a whole day for administrative business, anticipating a lengthy locking of horns.

you are shocked when you get nothing after asking for 'all exclusive' rather than 'all inclusive', LOL. That'll teach you for thinking you deserve anything exclusive.

you really can't think much beyond stereotypes which can sour relations

OK, all of the above have some grains of truth in them but they are designed to be slightly provocative and tease out discussion. Please consider all of the above as marked with winks ;) ;) ;)

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Let's question the logic here. Why is Russia described as Eurasian? The answer really is quite simple.

Poland is also a big country so why the need to label it? I live in the SW of Poland and it isn't really that far from the Czech Republic which is slap bang in the middle of Europe. Making my point even more clearly, imagine you are standing on the Polish-German border. Taking a few steps doesn't change geography to that extent. You are still in Central Europe.

To the American guys above, that's just what I've heard but I've never been in America so I can't say either way.

Revenge comes at a price too. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Yeah, some bands can go off the rails but their Progenies song was still well worth listening to.

It's more my wife's kind of music. She's been to a quite a few black metal concerts both here and in Norway. It's not really my type of music but I like some of the symphonic stuff. Satanic just isn't my thing but I love good riffs, irrespective of the type of metal.

Well, it is something similar to the fake ways of some Brits and Americans when they ask how you are or say 'have a nice day' as they secretly wish you dead.

I have old people more in mind in relation to the above, Ironside. Old Japanese and Poles use it but their body language, eyes and soul give them away. Those that I have in mind now may use such polite language but they are disingenuous sods!

Hermh, never heard of them but I'll check them out, thanks. I'm forever impressed with the articulation of metalheads whose first language isn't English.
