Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

Once any so called "illegal alien" is accepted by any country, they stop being "illegal" ;). Normal but not to Levy's weird mind ;)

Food / Best Polish Potato Variety for Mashing [67]

@Atch: yes! I know that you guys (just like Poles for instance) do eat potatoes at every meal..... We don't (usually no more than 2 or 3 times per week although of course kids would like fries every day and some parents let them....)

Great that I like potatoes since in Pl ;)

Have a good day!

Classifieds / Looking for employee / building company in Poland [9]

@Nico: ok for 2,000 e if job is in Poland! Fantastic salary in Poland (where median is less than 800 e) but as you'll need someone with good knowledge of 3 (or 4) languages, salary is justified in Poland.

Good luck! :)

Travel / Hotels near to Ul Francuska 36 Building B Katowice? [14]

Re mistake, I've even a "better" story ;). A client of mine organizes himself all his vacation trips around the world and once, he paid the equivalent (in USD) of some 700 ZL for 1 week (double room since with his wife) in a 5 star hotel in Bali. Obviously it was a mistake from a hotel employee but my client and his wife got the deal ;).

Well, it happens only once .... Nevertheless, said client is the best in terms of organizing best deals :)

Travel / Hotels near to Ul Francuska 36 Building B Katowice? [14]

Ok! Thanks again! All this seems very complicated for me and whenever I do need to reserve a room, I just contact the hotel directly and deal with them. Well, I'll think about your comments when need to book in Kce :)

Have a nice evening!

Travel / Hotels near to Ul Francuska 36 Building B Katowice? [14]

Ok, thanks, Jon! I'll remember your post when I need to book in Kce. I agree with you re Ibis Budget. I know several people who regularly stay at such hotels and they like them. For me, they are the equivalent of ... McDo ;). They are cheap and functional but usually they are away from Centrum and often in some sort of industrial areas. I don't know about the one in Kce. If only $23, even by Polish standards, it's nothing.

Basically, what hotel as close to Centrum as possible would you recommend in Kce? I don't mind spending up to 250zl.

Thanks:)

PS: I'm printing your message so I won't have to look it up when needed

Classifieds / Looking for employee / building company in Poland [9]

Only about .... 2,000 euros????!!!!! Besides "good English "and Polish, I'll suppose she'll also need to speak French and Flemish to deal with Belgian administration, including hospitals when labor related accidents (happens a lot in this kind of business).

How much is the minimum salary in Belgium? I suppose close to 1,500 euros!!!!!!

Sorry, below standard!

Travel / Hotels near to Ul Francuska 36 Building B Katowice? [14]

Thanks, Jon, but as you say "were", does it mean that your prices are kind of old? I now and then have to go to Kce (next week, for instance) and instead of traveling back and forth same day (exhausting), I think I'll sometimes stay overnight in a hotel. As a woman, of course, I mean to choose a decent hotel in safe neighborhood and I also need some comfort, with private bathroom... Last time I looked (less than a year ago) there were several of them around 200/250 (this fits me but of course if cheaper and good, why not? ;)). The other day I passed in front of one called something like Angelo (don't remember exactly as I'm terrible with names of places, streets...), which is looks very nice and is close to Pl. Wolnośći (5 minutes' walk from railroad station for people who don't know Kce) but according to what I have found on the net, it's 400+ per night so no way although it must be good.

What about Ibis Budget for OP (and for others ;))? I don't have time to look it up but the price must be cheaper than 150.

@Jon: when you say "cheap", do you have an idea? In fact, I'm amazed at how expensive hotels are in Katowice. The other day, I passed in front of one called something like "Angelo" that looked nice to me but then I checked, it appeared that it costs some 400ZL. Personally I don't want to spend so much, a place like Katowice is not worth it...

Longer stays for cheaper accommodation, they are for instance an Ibis Budget in Katowice. I don't know how far it is from Centrum (but I don't think it's very far) but Katowice (contrary to Warsaw, for instance, which drives me crazy) is compact and is no too difficult to move around.

Life / Do Polish children have a typical bedtime? [11]

Obviously Poles do in all different ways. I know kids who go to bed before 9 (pm) and others of same age who stay up until past ... 1 (am ;)) even during school week and needless to say the following day they can't stop yawning ;)

UK, Ireland / Why do UK people look down on us? Maybe because plenty of Polish people work in the sex and cleaning industry? [51]

@Jon: as we all know, MOST (= not ALL) Poles in UK (and elsewhere) are economic migrants and as a result face "racism"/xenophobia. Basically when coming from poor countries, foreigners are given a hard time and it is particularly so when they are themselves poor. Rich foreigners even when coming from poor countries have it easier.... I have lived altogether in 6 (foreign) countries (and have visited around 2 dozen countries (as a tourist) and I have NEVER been looked down on.

Racism now is more of economic nature.

As you know, Jon, racism/xenophobia/antisemitism/antimuslim/homophobia..., are the result of lack of education and poor living environment. For instance, the poor Briton (or German, French, Swiss, Turk, Swede...) feels threatened by incoming foreigners who can work for cheaper salaries. The fear obviously becomes hatred....

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

@Chemi: 100% agreed with you. Same applies to France and most probably Germany. These countries play major role and also have a lot of (business) interests all of over the world (I am NOT saying it's good or it's bad but only that it's way it is) and countries like Poland, Slovakia, Malta or Zimbabwe or numerous others are very unlikely to be threatened.

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

@Johhny Reb: islamists attack world powers, Poland is a second category country which plays NO role on the international scene I bet not a single islamist has even heard of Duda, Kaczynski, Komorowski, Kopacz, Kukiz itd...

IF (of course unfortunately) attacks there shall be only in Western Europe (UK, France, Germany, maybe Belgium because EU) or in the US.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

@Delph: although I don't read future in coffee grounds, I don't believe Kukiz will last 4 years. He'll probably make a show at Sejm 1 or 2 times but soon will disappear and return to his music. What can he and for instance Liroy concretely do at Sejm? ;)

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

Why would islamists attack Poland?????? Poland does not mean anything to them. Outside of Poland's closest neighbors and of Polonia, nobody EVER mentions Poland. Islamists mean to attack the USA, main western European powers and maybe (?) .... Israel.

Islamists are also very publicity seeking and sorry Poland is not interesting to them.

News / Poland's Vietnamese: A tough transition but they're surviving [31]

Does anyone know whether there are Polish-Vietnamese couples? If any, I doubt there are many. Vietnamese tend to live among themselves and are in small businesses related to (Vietnamese) food and cheap clothes imported from Vietnam and neighborhing Asian countries. The first Vietnamese arrived during communism as "students" so obviously they do speak Polish and certainly most of them have the Polish nationality but I seriously doubt that they consider themselves "Polish" first ;). Asians abroad live in ghettos and according to what I have always heard, they are pretty racist ....

Life / Pakistani Muslim studying at the Medical University of Lodz (racism, safety, etc) HELP [23]

My goodness! Another troll to fuel racism and xenophobia! Very unlikely that Pakistanis, who in general do speak English (at least those studying), would travel all the way from home to study in .... Poland, a non tolerant and antimuslim country and whose diplomas have no more value than from anywhere else, with obviously no Pakistani community (people tend to move where they can find significant numbers of their fellow citizens).

Well, I don't feed trolls...

Work / Life of Foreigners in Warsaw - salary (supply chain specialist; logistics), monthly expenses [24]

Just to give you a - rough - idea! I must spend close (I don't count each zl) to 1,000 for food per month. I shop neither at places like Biedronka/Lidl and consorts nor at Tesco and Auchan (both cheaper than other supermarkets) but do at small neighborhood shops and supermarkets like Leclerc, Piotr & Pawel and Marks & Spencer (all are considered expensive). I don't buy much meat and I do buy a lot of foreign and organic products. So, you can expect for instance 75% of what I spend, in order to buy quality food (no greasy wędliny and other industrial junk). Sure, if you eat all or most of your meals out, you spend a fortune ;).

Love / My boyfriend from Poland - cannot contact him [12]

@Bigfoot! One canNOT conclude the way you do because obviously no one can know ALL countries. However, it's true that this "disappearing culture" found among so many Poles is rather amazing. I have never found similar attitude in any other (probably more than 50) nationality I have had to deal with. It happens not only in social but also in business relationships. I have never been able to understand why some Poles can play dead overnight. I have heard from other Poles that Poles are not used to speak their minds and it could be the reason why they prefer to disappear....

If the OP's socalled "boyfriend" is one among those Poles, no loss and good riddance! She is better off without him and she should make herself available to find someone else better (if not already done) ;). The boy is not interested in her and does not have b... to talk with her.
