Classifieds / Private English Lessons by Experienced Professional Teacher in Poland (Warsaw) [107]

ZL 80/hour

Teaching in-company is not the most reliable way of making a living. Businesses often cancel lessons at short notice due to meetings, etc. You should try to negotiate a deal whereby you get paid if the compnay cancels a class with, say, less than twenty-four hours' notice. 80 Zł is at the low end of the spectrum. I charge considerably more and have the aforementioned arrangement.

News / Poland's PIS go back to their old ways [194]

Most of young people are PiS voters, not PO voters !

In my experience this is absolutely not the case. Do you have any polling stats on that claim?

News / Poland's PIS go back to their old ways [194]

"Kędryna referred POLITICO to a Polish Press Agency article, which suggests Tusk was invited, but by the Chancellery of Polish Parliament - the Sejm - rather than Duda. It is claimed that the invitation was issued to Tusk as the former prime minister of Poland rather than president of the European Council."

"Referred to", "suggests", "Claimed".
Your source is a bit vague.

But in Poland everybody knows this.

I guess I'm out of the loop, then.
I'm not saying it isn't true. It's just that I require more concrete evidence. I've heard so much bs from politicians of all stripes in my life that I don't believe things just because someone tells me it's true (and I'm not a PO or Tusk fan).

UK, Ireland / Polish striking due to anti-Polish UK feeling [58]

Oxon: 26 May 2014:

"It has been proved beyond all shadow of a doubt 'Goofy the dog' that immigrants take more out of the infrastructure, public services, health care, education than what they actually contribute."

"Far from being a drain on the nation, migrants actually make Britain a more prosperous place, according to a major report by researchers at University College London last year. It found that immigrants from the European Union who came to Britain between 2000 and 2011 paid out £20 billion more in taxes than they received in benefits."

That's from the newspaper story you yourself quote today, Oxon, or should I say Alison?

Their communist background makes meaningful conversation difficult as their parents have instilled in them from birth not to talk to the priest, doctor, neighbor etc for fear of being informed upon by the informer.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Troll off.

Life / Life in Poland - feeling lonely and don't want to socialize much! (anyone feeling same?) [93]

Most people would be bored silly by this game.

Because they don't know the rules. I don't know the rules of American football, but I can believe it is very exciting for those that do. Likewise rounders, the little girls' game, known as baseball in the USA. Granted, a long Test match is not for everyone, but one day, limited overs cricket can be thrilling. Poland has rugby clubs; why not cricket?

Anyone that runs a business will tell you how the tax office has been getting very sharp recently

That's true. The tax office phoned us twice last month about discrepancies in our accounts. Both times the mistake was on their side, but it shows they are sharpening up. However, I still think they could find an awful lot among car mechanics, builders, etc.

currently experiencing a bit of a drought

Dry as Ghandi's flip flops here in the north-east. +32, with +36 forecast this weekend.
I think younger Poles socialize much more than their elders. As for village life, it's much the same everywhere. Old people gossip because they have nothing else to do. We are friendly with several of our neighbours, and exchange produce with them, e.g herbs, potatoes, eggs, strawberries and marrows. A while ago I gave a neighbour's son some prep lessons for his Matura, and the lad's father ploughed our field. And another neighbour took away a few bits of old furniture and a broken washing machine and gave us wine and beer in exchange.

Do you get carol singers?

state neglect

Poland would be considerably wealthier if it collected its tax.

deliberate neglect

I get lost when people start talking about abstruse economic theories, but why do you think the government might be turning a blind eye to tax evasion? Is it about liquidity?

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

Fruit picking and the like are done by Ukrainians.

We had some people over for lunch on Tuesday, one of whom is a farmer. She said she and her husband had just made the decision to give up growing blackberries because they spent a fortune on irrigation and got 13 groszy/kg from the big buyers. I'm suprised Polish farmers can afford to pay anyone at all to pick their crop.

he deserves respect and to be given a chance

I'm willing to give him a chance, and respect once he's earned it. I'm definitely willing to showrespect to the Head of State as such. I had hoped that he might behave in an appropriately statesmanlike manner, but unfortunately, he hasn't made a good start. As for the majority of Poles voting for him, it's a bit greyer than that.

As you know, many PiS supporters, mad as it is, consider Tusk to be implicated in the 'murder' of their President. They have not moved on enough yet. Let's hope that the new guy will learn diplomacy as he grows into the job.
