News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

Trump has been against China from day 1 because of economics.

Trump is against the European Union, too, and is trying - together with his British poodles - to destroy it. Not because of the centralization in Brussels or the migrant crisis (that's a fairytale they tell you), but for the simple reason that the EU has become too powerful for the US as a global competitor. They cannot allow that. If they are successful to break the union apart, they will win big time while Poland and the other members will suffer economically. They won't care, or as president Trump likes to put it: "America first".

Gun nuts - as in people protecting their property?

No, gun nuts as in mentally unstable gun owners who insist on their right to own guns, but use their weapons to kill their friends, partners and kids in domestic disputes for example. A large percentage of homicides in Chicago and elsewhere are caused by these people.

I am a gun nut...

No, you're just nuts. LOL!

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

What a stupid remark.

Not really. Check the Murder Analysis Report of the Chicago PD for the motive of homicides, and you will find that only a little over a half of the altercations are gang related.

News / American GIs troops finally in Poland and, thank God, there's more to come [480]

but it would still be dwarfed by the $664 billion the U.S. spends every year.

Of course, but don't forget that the USA has global military ambitions and the Europeans don't. If you want to play the world's cop then it'll cost you. You can't really compare America to the rest of the NATO members in that respect, and it would be unfair to do so.

The United States 'IS' NATO.

No doubt about that.

The United States spends three times more then all the rest of NATO does put together.

The US pays 22%, Germany for example pays 15% of NATO's common funding. You are talking about total defense spending, which is a whole different beast.

nato.int/nato_static_fl2014/assets/pdf/pdf_2014_06/20140611_20140601_NATO_common_funded_budgets_2014-2015.pdf

you are talking crap because if America goes down so will the EU

Doubt it. The EU simply trades more with China; a country that Trump despises. The Chinese knocked on Merkel's door already a few days ago.

Genealogy / Where is Ryski, Russia? Is that Ryki, Poland? [15]

Another option (maybe):

I checked the passenger lists for the port of Bremen, but your ship wasn't listed. So I went to the passenger lists for the port of Hamburg, and both family names - Gudzinowicz and Praniewicz - appeared. For different persons, though. Several male and female Praniewicz and one female Michalina Gudzenowicz. Could it be that both family names were somehow combined in your document?

Scans of the originals are available at the LDS:
familysearch.org/wiki/en/Hamburg_Passenger_Lists

or at Ancestry:

Genealogy / Where is Ryski, Russia? Is that Ryki, Poland? [15]

as she wrote in this previous thread

Thanks, didn't see that one. I wish people would stick to one thread instead of opening several threads about the same topic.

'Ryski' may well be the adjective of 'Ryga'

Was wondering about that, too. Traktat Ryski.

Genealogy / Where is Ryski, Russia? Is that Ryki, Poland? [15]

What does the Ellis Island ship's manifest say about his place of birth? I see that his last residence was in St. Petersburg. Since people weren't very mobile in the 1880's - 1900's I would assume that "Ryski" is somewhere close to St. Petersburg. Likely within a 50 mile radius.

News / Will eight million Polish people flock to the UK now that we are going for a hard Brexit? [38]

without USA support they are merely just ordinary countries. Really. Nothing special

Why do you think that being an "ordinary" country is a bad thing? Being "normal" (whatever that means) is good, or do you want both countries to have global ambitions again? Despite, Germany and the U.K. are both economic powerhouses (#4 and 5 in the world), and Britain is also a nuclear power. Russia wouldn't dare to touch them.

likely to be a victory of Madame Le Pen in France

Ain't going to happen. The French have almost the same political system as the Germans. If the ultra right gets too strong, the other parties form a coalition and prevent Le Pen (or Petry in Germany for that matter) from grabbing power. Le Pen will be out in the second round, that's my guess. Anything else would be a big surprise.

The USA supplied the Russians

And who did most of the fighting and dying once again?

And you come to the USA as an immigrant

Just like your parents, my little anchor cry baby.

Must be better then where you came from.

If you and your sockpuppet Joker were the only ones here, then yes ... much, much better. But thankfully, only the uncivilized parts of the USA - also known as Grabthepussistan - are inhabitated by the brainless minions of Emperor Hirocheeto. LOL!

That might of course change...

All empires end up on the garbage dump of history one day. Some sooner, some a little later.

History / Give Poland back it's lost land ! [132]

Sorry.

Did you misunderstand? I was never for a return of the lost east German territories, nor for a return of the lost eastern Polish territories. That's a recipe for desaster.

the Yalta Treaty benefited more the US than it did Germany

Of course. Just like in WW1, the Americans were late to the party but managed to turn the outcome of both wars into their advantage. Europe became militarily insignificant on the world stage with only two powers left: the USA and the USSR. Wasn't the destruction of the British Empire one of America's primary geopolitical goals?

the Morgenthau Proposal would've successfully divyed up the remaining German territory

Some say, the Morgenthau Plan was set up and implemented to starve the German population to death.

Polish patriotic poster, about 10 years old

Garbage poster. The French were the ones who insisted that the Germans give up their DM before they agreed to the reunification of Germany. Don't blame the Germans (they didn't want the Euro!), blame France for the mess.

The trials were necessary, but that's not when half the continent was handed over to Stalin. That happened in Yalta.

You see the USA was involved in another war at the time.

Well, the US is always involved in one war or another. No surprise here.

Quick history lesson for our PolAm whose parents weren't even alive at that time...
Fact is that the USA preferred to stay out of WW2 for the first two years and couldn't care less about freedom and democracy in Europe, or the fate of their so-called "allies" for that matter. They only decided to join after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and Hitler was stupid enough to declare war on the US. The ones who defeated the Germans were certainly not the Americans or Brits, but the Russians who sacrificed millions of people in the process. Inconvenient truth, I know.

To the victor(s) go the spoils.

Nobody asked the Poles what they wanted. They were sold to Stalin, together with half of the continent. "Liberators of Europe" ... NOT.

...strictly to abuse them

Let's quote the admin...

Out of all forum members, you should be the last to complain.

Look at your own warnings and those of your "allies", as Vincent used to call them. Trolling and abuse, abuse, abuse. Hypocrite.

The American/NATO military presence in and around Poland is the greatest thing that ever happened to this country.

Let's watch Trump's Twitter account and see what he will post about the future of NATO after his inauguration. There will be no American presence in Poland without NATO, that's for sure.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

a couple more Fukushimas will condem the planet forever.

Nuclear fusion has nothing to do with the nuclear fission that is used in todays' reactors, Dolnoslask. It's a clean alternative which emulates the same process that drives our sun. It produces only very short-lived radioactive waste.

Evidently you're already on the moon. Bon voyage!

Why are you opposed to a cleaner, more modern Poland?

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

So you didn't bother reading my post #85

Oh, I did bother, and I responded to it. Burning fossil fuels for energy production is ancient technology, there's no way around it. Even if the Indians have found a new way to make baking powder. Why should Poland rely on such outdated industries when there is a chance to start from scratch with competitive, modern ones?

are you possessed?

Only when it comes to surfing and Aussie Rules Football. Otherwise we have already arrived in the 21st century - unlike some dinosaurs here who are still stuck in the Middle Ages. Now go and dig up some peat to heat your house... :)))

So brainwashed...

Tell you what: let Poland have its ancient coal power plants and baking powder production. In 50 years you will still be burning coal while the developed world generates its energy with solar panels and nuclear fusion. Sounds good?

Poland may be proved right in not being bullied into sacrificing it's coal mining industry

Coal mining is an 18th century industry just like generic steel production. It has no future. Or do you really want Poland's future to look like this?

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

I do see them being given the choice - assimilate (culturally) or leave and I think some will stay and assimilate and others will leave.

That will all depend on how much longer these attacks continue, and how large the number of Muslims in Europe will be in the not so distant future. Germany accepted around 1.5 million migrants/ refugees over the past two years. Now imagine each one of them brings an average of ten family members to the country. That's already 15 million or roughly 20% of the population. Add millions of Turks to that mix, and you can see the writing on the wall. Let's hope you are right and everything stays peaceful. I have my doubts though given the fact that Erdogan for example urges ethnic Turks in Europe to never integrate or assimilate into their host culture.
