News / What the Polish government do to bring back home Polish immigrants? [116]

Back to the thread, what is the Polish government doing? Surely it must be of some concern when 1/38 of your population goes to one group of countries alone. Alignment is key and a sensible government policy would be to, as best possible, to transfer the skills used abroad into Polish industry and practices. What is Tusk doing or what has he done in this regard?

News / Poland: In Top First 15 Countries in the WORLD by the number of CRIMES [286]

What many Poles did wrong was to interpret the globalist freedoms as guarantees of work and they didn't organise work in advance here. The smarter ones brushed up their CVs, applied from home base and only then rolled the dice. That's just the truth, convex.

In the absence of concerted stimulus packages designed to lure workers back here, we can assume that some came back in the hope of setting up shop but look at the stats of GUS. There has been a steady monthly increase of 0.1% every month for the last few months. Don't you think that a large number of those who came back fit into that bracket, convex? Would that be reasonable to assume?

Convex, it has been explained before why they don't go to Scandinavian countries. Taxes are through-the-roof and the language barrier is very much there. It is SOOOO expensive to go there even for a holiday, never mind live there. Go and check out the prices of accommodation in Stockholm. Please reserve me a hotel there for 3 nights if it's so cheap ;) ;) ;)

Work / Do Polish employers regularly fire pregnant workers? [4]

The simplest solution would be to hire another person on a temporary contract until the pregnant woman is in a position to return sometime after giving birth. I guess it would depend on the work at hand. Some team members are invaluable and indispensable. If they intentionally became pregnant and went on maternity leave in the full knowledge that the company was gonna be entering an intensive phase then I can only imagine top brass taking a dim view of that and even taking strong action.

Most things can be solved through discussion. Those that haven't been solved yet are largely so because there is still some money to be extracted from the discussion process.

News / What the Polish government do to bring back home Polish immigrants? [116]

Whiteeagle makes a good point above and is essentially the crux of the matter. Unemployment benefits are nothing like those on offer in the UK so that's a major disincentive. Many go on to do what they call staż. It's sth like work experience and stands them in good stead for later. However, it comes to an end and the job hunting process starts anew. Another stopgap measure!

Tusk is working on 'bigger' plans. After all, what do the people matter? ;) ;) ;) ;)

It's a bit of both tbh but more that there isn't enough gainful employment for them here. It was the case in 2004, WB, that they got 7.2PLN to the pound (at one point). That was prime time! Over 7000PLN a month for a pi**y little 1000 pounds a month job. We should also factor in idealism, a point that hasn't been made enough if at all. Anything was better than here (in their minds) but I don't think they realised how expensive Britain is. My friend went back to Liverpool and he came back to Poland within a year (English guy). The reason? Blighty is really extortionate!

As for the thread allegation, bollo*ks!

Well, it looks like he is off to put his M&Ms into alphabetical order. I'm off to sip my tea :)

Have a sip, have a draw, have a gulp, what else can you have along these lines?

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

I've heard that Serbian women are more leggy. In fact, it was a Serbian woman that told me that. I saw some stunners in Belgrade :)

TIT, they don't even know you so don't take it personally. They are just words. Any contributions to the thread?

True enough, SwedeinPoland. I make mistakes, many Poles I teach commit errors as they are unaware that they are wrong.

Again, more and more ignorant. Everything has been said above. Why do you persist with your childish digs and backtalking ways. What backup? He said his piece and I said mine.

There you go, TIT. I haven't taken anything like 400 hours of lessons. I got lessons for free from my first teaching school but I can count on two hands how many hours I have formally learned. I took 8 in total and just the basics yet I can put together sentences better than some Poles I've heard.

That seems like a fair summary. I made a simple mistake and even the best make them. The important thing is to learn from them and not argue tooth&nail that you are right. I'm not a robot and learning is a distinctive process. Now, I'll have a sip of my beer :)

Life / Why do you choose to stay in Poland, why not other country? [152]

That's a common hack against native speakers that isn't always merited, pcanuck. I went abroad to travel, it wasn't the case that I couldn't do anything with my Masters. I've been lucky enough to have good bases in Europe and Asia in which to move around.

The master of reflection didn't acknowledge that, though. I think he's had a few sips too many of jabol or bimber

I did so because, as Ziemowit said, there are plenty of resources on this forum and threads that have already addressed this point. I took the bait but it's all for a bit of spice. I'm not like that in class and in normal interpersonal relations. Besides, it gave me a laugh and we all need to laugh from time to time.

Heck, I even throw in some Japanese from time to time as she was a keen student of it. I was there for 2 years and picked it up to a communicative level after being there for around a year. My friends Yoko and Hideki would gladly vouch for that. Yes, a language spoken by 125 million people. Let's get to the point. The point is that some use Maltese to speak and that's their right to do so. However, they'd likely use English when the right times came around.

Am I rude by teaching her Japanese for free? Am I rude for giving her turns of phrase in English? Am I rude for not shouting out to everyone near me, 'hey, I can tell you exactly what I'm reading about in a Polish newspaper?'. Don't presume what people know and don't know!

TIT, and if I didn't? Maybe she wants me to speak only English to her, how do you know?

You are getting more ignorant with every post. I wrote above that I am fairly fluent and that meetings are conducted in Polish at my school. Important things that I MUST understand. Let me guess, you think I edited that too?! Chump!

I use Polish with her too. It just depends on my mood. When I'm with her family, I always use Polish and she leaves me with them for some time. I wouldn't use English as they'd feel left out and that'd be unfair.

Ask other native speakers of English the same and they'll likely say what I said. It's all about time and place. I'm not allowed to use Polish in my job, therefore I think in English. I was taught to communicate in English through my whole schooling, I see the world and communicate that way. I have no obligation to learn Polish yet I have and use it outwith school as and when I see fit. She likes listening to English and I can help her. What can you offer, chump? A silly mistakes? ROTFL.

Eh, no, that was there before. No re-editing involved at all (edit). I edited because I made a spelling mistake. I make mistakes, unlike your errors. I said she 'uses Polish' in the initial post and haven't changed that at all.

WB rethinks his posts, what's wrong with that? Your posts are hardly works of art after the first attempt.

She speaks Polish to me and I reply in English. What's so hard to understand about that?

I was talking about the actual appearance of the word, mafketis. It's an important lesson for a student not to judge solely on that basis. I put that it was actually the present simple above.

Language / have a sip - Chcesz łyka? [56]

Please explain why not. It's the infinitive without to, i.e the bare infinitive. The present simple form then. There is no auxiliary so I'll grant you that.

Is this an exam? No, it isn't. Did you skip English classes at school? Learning the indefinite articles should be learned in the first few classes.

Who is ignorant now? I just told you above that we use 'a' for one, yes, one thing. Did they teach you the meaning of one at school? If so, why do you persist in using 'a' with plural nouns. A silly mistakes? WTF? A silly mistake or silly mistakes. Not so hard really. Go and ask Nergal from Behemoth, he is Polish and will teach you. He's awesome!

What makes you think that I speak Polish with her? She speaks English quite fluently but uses Polish. I understand everything she says so reply in English.

She does work so 24h is just crap! To errr (sic) is human! You've never made a silly mistake? Look at people who have, many at the top of their sports/trade. Boruc, Kasparov, take your pick as almost all of them have.

Mafketis, I was being silly. I learned such things years ago but you'd only know that to ask me in person. Anyone can prepare stuff for writing a post or not come across correctly.

Well, each to their own ;) ;) Pick a random tense. Why do you not use a and an?

Tell me, is there a difference between 'it's the sh*t' and 'it's sh*t'? How about time and the time?

Language / have a sip - Chcesz łyka? [56]

Well, I would normally say 'łyka chcesz?' but that's just personal preference.

Poles often omit the ą and ę in speaking or maybe accentuate it for a laugh, e.g idę but most say ide.

'I would be in trouble if I spelled (AmE) or spelt' (BrE), it's the present subjunctive or 2nd conditional.

Good attempt at a mixed conditional though ;) Do you know what a mixed conditional is?

You are right. The articles are the absolute basics, e.g a chair is one chair, yet still I see higher level students say things like 'a chairs'. Where is the teaching in schools? I learned the French le and la very early on in my French classes.

TIT, it's the simple fact that a 'ł' was used, thus implying the intention to use diacritics, and ą wasn't. Tell me, why use one and not the other?

What does karnąć się mean? I have heard 'do you want a sip?', yes. It wasn't a new word for me, like macha. Some words people know, some they don't. I might have guessed that łycha was some kind of spoon but I prefer łyżka and łyżeczka.

I still don't see any mistakes that I made. I haven't lost my nerve, I just feel that he can't criticise. If he wants to play that game with a language he learned, I'll oblige. He couldn't get near the academic level of writing I did throughout my 5 years of university but, then again, I don't expect him to.

Would he like an article lesson I wonder? :)

Not you, Harry, no. A guy who has lived in this city for all that time. Getting called ignorant by a Paweł, LOL. That really made my day. I've seen much of the world and like to think of myself as very open-minded but, more importantly, that's how others see me.

TIT is likely the kind of fool that I correct in his own language. A prime example would be poszłem instead of poszedłem. Keep suckling the teet, tit.

You mean 'make' basic mistakes? LOL I'll take that as a joke, moron! I am fairly fluent in Polish and many who have lived here for 5 years aren't. Just because I don't know łycha means nothing. I know łyżka and łyżeczka, not łyzka by the way. poles don't move by themselves, Poles do.

I have never formally learned Polish with any regularity and still I can communicate fluently with natives. Please tell me how that is?

I know sb who has lived here for 16 years, had a Polish wife and GF and hardly knows the basics. Go and bug him.

Oh, please tell me how I sit in on meetings which are conducted in Polish at my school and understand everything!? You've been listed, jackass, and we'll see how good your schooling in English was. Oh, I don't know the word for handlebar in Japanese and I often used a bike. I know enough to speak and use the language well. Care to explain!?

Oh, please don't think I'm unkind. I'm an award-winning teacher at the top of his game. So, here's a freebie. It's don't, not dont. Just let me know if you want private lessons and I'll fix you right up, buster.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

That's probably it. There aren't too many in the suit brigade here in Upper Silesia. Maybe in Katowice but certainly not here in Gliwice.
