Travel / Ski and Snowboard - Poland 09/10 season (updated: 10/11 season) [84]

You must let me know if you are around this neck of the woods :)

I will :)

I learned how to ski in Scandinavia, no instructor, no small slop, "So I start down here and figure out what to do?" "Nie, du must go top and figure out on the way down" hahahaha that was a crash course

The classic way.. hehe.

Or maybe it's cause of the menthality differences.

There are all kinds of mentalities (and personalities) in Poland.

Language / Caring/loving words in Polish? [90]

No, it's spelled exactly wyjątkowy. You must include the ą if you want ivona.com to read it correctly. Copy and paste.

Language / WHY THE HELL CANT I LEARN POLISH?? [64]

got a tutor who will only speak to me in Polish

being forced to speak Polish

This is the best way to learn a language. Speak only Polish, and you will learn quickly. Difficult in the beginning.

Language / WHY THE HELL CANT I LEARN POLISH?? [64]

Good luck indeed. ;)

I know, I mean the opposite, English movie with Polish subtitle. It's nice to go to the cinema as well.

how grammar in polish works

So far I have not met one single person who learned how grammar works from an audio course. You must learn the structures.

History / Poland and Muslims (Tatars and others). [81]

If you go to a new country it's obvious that you should adjust to the new culture and way of living. It works in both ways.

Language / WHY THE HELL CANT I LEARN POLISH?? [64]

If you tell yourself that you will never learn Polish, you will not pick up phrases or learn anything else.

OF COURSE it's possible to learn Polish!

1. Get a good Polish language book. - This is very important!
2. Talk to people every day in Polish. In the beginning for a short time with very easy sentences.
3. Listen to Polish music and Google the lyrics, translate and compare.
4. Read easy texts.
5. Try to find Polish movies with English subtitles.

Good Luck!

Life / Disco Polo - No No No No No! [95]

What about Silesian disco polo?

There are actually some nice songs (but you have to be selective).

Not many people realize that Adam Małysz got his start singing Disco Polo ....

Is it true? That's cool. One of the best ski jumpers the world has ever seen.

News / Crucifixes to stay in Polish schools [364]

Poland benefits more from the EU than any other country.

Poland is one of the few countries that getsmuch more money than they pay.

And if many Poles couldn't go abroad to work, they rate of unemployment would be extremely high in Poland.

History / Poland and Muslims (Tatars and others). [81]

Muslims have lived in Poland for an extremely long time, and it hasn't been any problems.

Do you agree? If not tell me what part you don't agree on.

I can agree that the mass immigration to Scandinavia has gone to fast. But again, that doesn't mean that all Muslims are bad persons.

History / Poland and Muslims (Tatars and others). [81]

I wouldn't expect an auto-biographical work to be anything but flattering.

So people are not allowed to choose their religion? Obama was baptized as a Christian, and he still is. It's his choice.

History / Poland and Muslims (Tatars and others). [81]

Here in Norway, we have lost a big part of our soul, Pride in our history

Because that means that I will have to give up my ethnic heritage and right to preserve my history and language.

Jesus, you are exaggerating. In some aspects I can agree with you. But much of what you say is just your fantasy. I haven't met one single ethnic Norwegian who lost a big part of his soul and pride in his history. You are the first one! And believe me, I have met a huge number or Norwegians. Norwegians in general are still proud of their country and history.

Norway has been voted several times in recent years as the best country in the world to live in.

Muslims have lived in Poland for an extremely long time, and it hasn't been any problems. The Muslims have been very loyal soldiers who helped to defend Poland and the Polish people. The problem in Western Europe and Scandinavia is the uncontrolled mass immigration, and that we don't demand integration clearly enough. But that doesn't mean that all Muslim people are bad people.

History / Poland and Muslims (Tatars and others). [81]

well it's usa not poland, but we have a muslim president and the world is not falling apart. yet. as long as he is a good diplomat it may even be helpful in world affiars.

Obama is a Christian whose religious views developed in his adult life. In The Audacity of Hope, Obama writes that he "was not raised in a religious household". He describes his mother, raised by non-religious parents (whom Obama has specified elsewhere as "non-practicing Methodists and Baptists") to be detached from religion, yet "in many ways the most spiritually awakened person that I have ever known". He describes his father as "raised a Muslim", but a "confirmed atheist" by the time his parents met, and his stepfather as "a man who saw religion as not particularly useful".

Ratko Mladic

He killed - intentionally - a huge number of innocent civilians in the beginning of the 90's.

On October 11, 2007, the Serbian government had announced that €1 million would be rewarded for information which would lead to Mladić's capture and arrest.

I don't dislike Serbia as a country. But we all know that Poland loyalty goes to EU and Western Europe. Maybe Serbia will join us one day.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

There is one important aspect we haven't mentioned.

It's not only easier to live in Poland if you know Polish. It's also much more fun if you actually understand what people around you say (are able to read signs, understand something of what they say on the TV or radio etc.).

I enjoy living in Poland much more now when I can have some conversations and understand something about what happens around me. If you live in a country only knowing a few words of the language you miss so much things.

Love / Filipina married a Polish man, need more advice [90]

Something about Polish genes, they are very loving, have good values, make responsible fathers.

Oh my god, what a generalization!

Some are great husbands and fathers, some are not.
As in all other countries, abuse (beating etc.) in relationships are much more common than people think, also in Poland.

It depends on personality, not nationality.

Language / The Polish accusative case [32]

Memorizing tables is rarely a good idea

I don't like learning by heart. But endings of nouns and adjectives in all cases you should memorize and learn by heart. Because it's so elementary, and it will be so much easier to speak and write Polish if you know this without thinking. There are so many other grammatical things you need to think about when you have to create a sentence fast in your head while speaking.

Language / The Polish accusative case [32]

When it comes to endings you must learn them by heart. There are declination tables in every grammar reference where you have all the endings in one place. Both for nouns and adjectives.

Language / Tego/Jego [15]

Accusative of on has 3 forms; jego, niego and go.

Jego is used when stressing something.
Niego is used after preposition.
In other situations go is used.

Language / Tego/Jego [15]

'On' is a male person, a living thing, isn't it? So a "samochód" can only be "To", because it is not a person, it is only an... it.

No. On can refer to any noun of the masculine gender, living or non-living.
To refers to a noun of the neutral gender. To has nothing to do with masculine gender.
Samochód is a masculine gender noun, so use on, and acc. of on is jego as you know.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

Strangely enough, the non Polish speaking expats I know here are British and they're proud of it. I simply don't understand that attitude. This isn't a slam, just an observation.

But this is not normal people. If you live in a country and don't even try to learn the language, of course people will laugh behind your back.
