UK, Ireland / Modern day slavery in the UK [36]

all the Poles had gone - there was just one guy from Turkey and one from Ghana - and they were talking about moving to jobs elsewhere.... so.

Looks like it was a success then - I wonder what happened to them, where they went and what they're doing now.

ust don't go to countries practicing slavery and having a long history of spreading it around the world.

Makes sense to go to the UK then - the first major country to stop it by the people's long campaigning and also enforce that on others.

Work / Can a sole trader employ himself (or have staff) in Poland? [8]

The word company is misused a bit - to be a company it needs to have several partners or shareholders.

For a sole trader, you do need to register but the most important thing is to get a very good bookkeeper who is up to date with regulations and the various claimable allowances (they do change quite often).

Work / Can a sole trader employ himself (or have staff) in Poland? [8]

Is it a salary? A business expense?

It's a drawing. You still have to declare money received into the business account as income though - to an extent it depends on which of the two tax options you choose however you have to pay up in the end. By the way, it isn't a company.

Genealogy / Katarzyna / Anna / Ewa Niwelińska - can you help me? [7]

Hello. It's an extremely rare name making people with it easier to trace online. According to the site I linked to below there are only a very few people called Niwelińska - literally a handful - called either (women) Niwelińska or (men) Nivelińska. Most are in Katowice and around, and most of those few seem to be findable on the first 2 pages of google - just type in Niweliński Katowice and there are contact details for several people. Emailing them might be the best place for you to start.

This might be interesting for you - especially about the exact number of people. Don't forget the 'ń' when you search for either the male or female version in the site below.

moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/niweli%25C5%2584ski.html

BTW, you've spelt it differently in the thread title and the post. Both names exist, both are very very rare and the moikrewni site I linked to shows both in the same area.

Love / Are women from Poland scared of good looking guys? [48]

they are truly ugly. ugh.

Like something a medallion man would have worn in the 80s.

The secret was to downgrade my looks (shorter hair-cut, hipsterish dressing style - think leather jacket and high-tops instead of tailored jacket and double monk strap shoes).

Apart from the naff shoes, that seems a bit better than the ensemble before. Less creepy, anyway. Except for the shoes....

Law / How much should American dad that makes 407k PLN pay in child support? [9]

Currently he sends $410USD = 1390PLN to Poland every month.

Do you feel that is sufficient for a mother who lives at home in Lublin with her parents?

Yes.

Furthermore, if the Polish mother ever pursued him legally, would she be entitled to more/less/same?

The Polish courts wouldn't suggest much or any more - that's a modest but ordinary wage in Lublin.

UK, Ireland / Where to buy Jadwiga/Lubelski Polish Poltorak mead in the UK? [8]

I live in Reading, Berkshire. Does anyone know of any local shops that sell it?

It's not Reading, but there's a few shops in London that specialise in exotic alcohols. One on Compton Street W1 that has a god selection of Polish drinks.

Life / Cheapest Way to Ship a Big Box from Krakow to Barcelona ? [11]

See threads here on them - they are not good, though less likely to steal something going out rather than coming in. About the Spanish postal service, anybody's guess. Also, the charges for sending 25kg to Spain will be high.

Travel / Which city is better to visit: Warsaw or Krakow? [169]

well maybe she thinks about spending New Year's Eve outside - there is an outdoor New Year's eve concert and celebration both in Warsaw

Have you ever been to that one? I made the mistake of going once. It isn't very nice. Plenty of very young people of the type who can't afford the normal things that people do in Warsaw, very tight crowds so not easy to get there or out again, metal crash barriers and police (but fights breaking despite their presence), no toilets (so not such a good idea to have much of a drink) and basically mediocre pop music and flashing lights.

Travel / Which city is better to visit: Warsaw or Krakow? [169]

I'm in Poland for a few days (doing business in Poznan- would be grateful for feedback /recommendations here)

In that case Warsaw will be more convenient to get to.

Out of all 3 cities would Warsaw be the best place to celebrate news years eve?

Probably though all three are OK. Many bars and restaurants are ticket only and are sometimes sold out. A good idea is to speak to the people you're visiting in Poznan and ask suggestions. Remember to dress well for New Year's Eve - the locals certainly will.

Work / Cancel polish Work permit? I got offer from Germany. [6]

Is there any difficulty to get German visa if i already have work permit from Poland? Should i cancel the work permit before i apply for German visa?

It makes no difference - they are separate countries. You will need to apply separately and the German authorities will not be interested in any other permit you have received.

Law / Purchasing a Vehicle in Poland and Shipping it to the U.S. [8]

please preserve your heritage,

Low quality old vehicles are best preserved in museums and only driven out in special convoys. Someone hurtling down a freeway full of Cherokees and Hummers in a Trabant is most likely to be 'preserved' by an embalmer.

"heritage cars" they are not

Indeed. I have a good friend who collects (God knows why) Allegros and Morris Marinas. But not 125ps or Trabants....

Love / Do Polish girls lose their virginity later than most [14]

making love with your wife while you were both virgins

Risking of course that they find out on the honeymoon that they're entirely sexually incompatible. At least divorces are easy to get.

Law / Purchasing a Vehicle in Poland and Shipping it to the U.S. [8]

How awesome would it be to have an old Polonez, 125p, Trabant, Skoda, etc on streets of LA!?

Not very. 125ps are dangerous, Trabants are highly dangerous and Polonez not great either. Plus all three were very badly built and, especially Trabant and Polonez, are highly unreliable. There's a reason we have better cars nowadays. Also, in a small bump with one of those huge American cars that very low petrol prices mean they still have, you would have no chance at all. If you must get an old car with no airbags, crash frame or in fact any safety features at all, get a big one. Not a Trabant which isn't even made of metal.

Would I 100% need Polish citizenship to purchase a vehicle in Poland for the purpose of directly shipping it overseas?

No.

Next question - upon purchasing the vehicle (and registering it), can I put down a U.S. address on the registration form or do I need an address in Poland?

If you're taking it out of Poland, why would you register it there? If however you want to register a car in PL, you would need an address there.

If that's the case, can I set up something like a PO box over there?

You can, however it wouldn't be acceptable as a registered address.

my other thought is that there might be additional paperwork for the vehicles you would like to import as these might be classified as historical vehicles

Depends how old.

Travel / Holiday in Poland - do I need to learn Polish? [26]

I don't know to be honest - never been there

I have a few times and polandstronk can expect enough to be spoken in hotels, bars, shops to survive easily on a holiday. A cheap phrasebook would help.

Lublin is not as much a touristy destination

It's worth visiting.

News / Poland scored 31 in THE 2014 LEGATUM PROSPERITY INDEX [6]

47 Social Capital

I read this last night and thought of posting - great minds think alike. That sad thing is the Social Capital score (defined as " strong familial bonds, charitable intent and high levels of trust") is so low.

Love / Polish idealist form of beauty for males and females? [11]

I forgot to say: also not too much makeup (if any)

One of the largest makeup companies in the world produces a lot of their stuff in Poland. They do 3 sets of shades for the 3 markets that the Poland factory serves - low key and naturalistic for Western Europe, rather less natural and stronger colours for Poland, Czech and Hungary; and much more garish colours for Russia and friends.

Life / What are your experiences of care for your loved ones in hospitals here? [75]

We all know your political tendencies,

I must admit, I don't remember. Nevertheless, I've had both good and bad experiences with Polish public sector hospitals - unfortunately the good ones were just slightly good and the bad ones were appalling including an intoxicated surgeon (I walked straight out and found a better hospital), doctors gossiping about patients within earshot of other patients as well as a doctor telling me that her colleague who'd been treating me earlier was incompetent.

I really do hope things are getting better. I have private cover from work that covers everything but have never actually needed to use it due to the excess being $100 and a decent private doctor costing a third of that.

Love / What do Polish guys think of Asian girls? [50]

There are alot of people that like asian girls but also many of them that don't like or don't have an opinion.

Plenty of Polish guys take holidays in Thailand and aren't always there for the temples and Pad Thai.

But be careful when you talk with Otaku guys.

Certainly plenty of Otaku in Poland.

UK, Ireland / Cheap buses to Poland from UK [13]

But you don't need a passport there, an identity card is enough

Provided you're a citizen of an EU/EEA country. I've a feeling that Poltr Brown isn't.

But is there any from going poland to UK?

Yes. The UK is outside Schengen so there are checks at the point of entry.
