An animation of the accident was posted by one of Polish papers:

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

not all Dutch records concerning WW2 and its aftermath are public.

Bollocks.
Property information has been traditionally available to all interested parties. I can check my neighbor, or someone on the left coast of Canada. I can see all the previous and current owners, dates of sale, sizes of rooms, and even whether their basement is finished and if they have a deck in their backyard. That info is free to me. In some countries your have to pay a small fee for the information, and the information can be even more elaborate, as it is in the case of The Netherlands.

Searches available in the Netherlands:

You can search property by address, post code, land registry code, map of the Netherlands, place map

Products available:

General real property information containing: Kadaster code, size, address, description, type of ownership, owners involved and their addresses and partner relationships, reference to the register unit identifier(s). This is the actual information in the database, open to public access immediately after updating.

Extract from Kadaster containing: Kadaster code, size, address, description, type of ownership, owners involved and their addresses and partner relationships, reference to the register unit identifier(s). Although this product contains the same content as the general real property information (see above), it is the authenticated information guaranteed by the Kadaster for a moment in time three to five working days earlier.

News / Russian air traffic controllers ignored communication protocol of Polish pilots? [194]

Although local languages are sometimes used in ATC communications, the default language of aviation worldwide is English. Controllers who do not speak this as a first language are generally expected to show a certain minimum level of competency with the language.

So the president of Poland is flying to Smolensk. They pick a pilot who speaks English (Fcuk the Russians. They must speak English to us. Period). The plane approaches the airport and says to the Russian traffic controller:

Pilot: Hi, do you speak English?
Controller: Nye ponimayu
Pilot: Cut the crap man!
Controller:shto?
Pilot - o kurwa! A ja myslalem ze w Rosji to po angieklsu mowia.
(oh s.h.it, I thought they spoke English in Russia)

Language / Getting the wrong ending of a word - do Polish still understand? [25]

Following AdamKadmon's, if you want to simulate what a Pole would would understand if the endings are wrong, produce a sentence in English in which the language's fundamentals are mixed up. That ought to give you an approximation of how a botched sentence would sound to a Pole:

"a do ending getting of polish stil the understand wrong word"

Got to love Derek sitting in Canada telling us all about how things are in the country we're in and he hasn't lived in for the past two decades!

It's no less interesting to see how a leech living in poland for the last 15 years has little clue about the country's realities.

It's even better how he knows the requirements for becoming a nurse in Poland better than somebody who is in the process of becoming a nurse in Poland!

I didn't know he was in the process of becoming a nurse. You too?

Now show me where in this nursing school curriculum they name English as a compulsory subject?

Well, America never entered into a defense treaty with Poland.

There was no defense treaty but there was presidential election, during which Roosevelt made promises and gladly took photo-ops in front of a map with Poland's borders promised to the Polish-American voters to be the same as pre-1939

Sorry, I simply asked my GF who is actually a student nurse. Polish nurses now have English lessons and have to pass English exams in order to qualify.

Before you said it was a job requirement. It isn't.
Now you're saying that "Polish" nurses have to pass English exams. That is not true either. In some schools English is among compulsory subjects, in others it is not.

Canada also showed what they think of the Czechs recently by stripping THEM of visa-free travel rights due to too many illegal Czechs living there.

That's kinda true. The visa requirement was imposed indeed, but the culprits are only sorta Czechs, but most not really.

Polish Nurses have English lessons and its its a job requirement now.

It is definitely not a job requirement for a Polish nurse in Poland to speak English. This could be regional, or even vary from one hospital (or even a position) to another.

Oh, and were the nurses described in this thread hired the day the incident happened or, say, 20 year ago when all had Russian at school but few were taught English?

And after being attacked in Poland, I'm not surprised they didn't want to use the language!

OK, so they punished the nurses by not speaking in Polish to them. Call it even steven.

Wroclaw Boy, you still don't believe my story?

The story is one sided and as WB said, full of holes.

Churchill didn't give a stuff about Poles, he disliked their selfishness.

The Brits complaining about someone else's selfishness? That's a good one.
So how's the view from up high on your pedestal?

it is rude in one sense but they do have a right to use English at the same time.

From the story it doesn't appear anybody rejected their right to speak English, but the foreigners reject the nurses' right to speak Polish in their own country.

At least the nurses aren't rude to the patients as the original poster mentioned

Were they really rude?
I'd say the visitors to the hospital were rude since they knew Polish and yet they chose to speak English in Poland.

And the likelihood of getting attacked in PL is far higher. Unless you know otherwise.

You are suggesting that the likelihood is greater in Poland so the onus is on you to provide the stats.

it seems you've forgotten the relative levels of tourism between the UK and Poland

What des that have to do with crimes on tourists?
They happen in Poland and they happen in the UK.
Or is being beaten up in UK somehow a better experience than being beaten up in Poland?

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

See, translation means jobs. Jobs mean business. Business means money. Money can be spend. Spent money is good for the economy.

Good pint. Reminds me of Berlin when I lived there many years ago. It used to be called West Berlin then.

I tossed an empty cigarette packaging to a garbage bin and one of the Gerries scolded me. I was surprised. His explanation was: someone has to clean it up, so litter the street, create a job.

Crimes on tourists are not unknown in developing economies.

Agreed.
Waiddaminute!
Is the UK a developing country?
It would seem so from the ]US official travel advisory to the UK.

Overall crime rates have decreased over the past decade; however, according to Metropolitan Police statistics, serious crime (i.e. assault, robbery, burglary, gun-enabled, and rape) in many London boroughs has increased during the past 12 months. As with any major metropolitan city, U.S. citizens are urged to be cautious and aware of their surroundings.

Where is the policing, jeden? The market square should be regularly patrolled, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Kraków had a visible contingent of police when I was there so what has changed?

The police was there but looked the other way. They guys were beat up to the point of needing medical help but they know who was where and where they looked :)

In their genius, the victims, instead of asking cops for help, tried to get a cab. Of course it's hard to say those were even cops. Might have been another group of tourists in freaky clothes. Heck, Michael Jackson used to dress up like a dictator from a third world country.

Then, they guys, who obviously speak Polish, get to the hospital and try to speak English with the nurses.

It's easier to believe the Red Riding Hood story than this fable.

I don't get it.
A few guys go to a hospital in Poland to seek medical help and instead of speaking Polish they try to communicate in English? That is plain stupid. Why didn't they speak Polish to the nurses?

History / Teaching our kids about Poland's History [57]

Wlazski your englishsuck's and you are spelling a lot of word's incorrectly.

Let's check the spelling then:

english - should be English
suck's - sould be sucks
word's - should be words

So, coward Guest, you have some work to do. Live what you preach and don't post here until you improve your spelling skills.

That's nearly a four year old post you're replying to and in those days many posters were guests.

To mediate between the English and the Germans, let's look into the future of EU's main language. Babylon tells me that this is how "god save the Queen" would look: الله تنقذ ملكة

Food / How do you make PLACEK Z KRUSZONKA? [39]

A $400 mixer will do the same job well :)
But seriously, the consistency of the mixture is so light that a $20 hand mixer might do. Just make sure the butter is very soft before mixing it in.

Food / How do you make PLACEK Z KRUSZONKA? [39]

mmmm, szarlotka...
I love that, although being somewhat traditional in my kitchen exploits I tend to do things they way there are supposed to be done. No canned garbage, all fruit natural, from local farmers. Long story short, a good szarlotka (with the shortcake) takes a couple of hours to make, and only minutes to disappear.

Mum of my friend comes sometimes from Toronto for a visit and she always makes one special banana bread for me.

I thought you lived in TO.

Initially my hubbie was not a fan, as he is apprehensive about new stuff but now he likes it too so whole loaf is gone in two days.

Banana bread is one of the easiest to make. About 1h25 minutes of which 1h10minutes is baking. You gotta try it one day.

That is neither mine nor hers. It is THE recipe.

In case you asked for something else - I am the baker at home. I cook too but mostly on weekends. No kruszonka cake this weekend though. Wifey wanted English tea biscuits and banana bread, so I baked 15 biscuits and 2 banana breads.

With me it was the other way around. I usually got stuffed with sernik first. Sometimes I had enough room for makowiec.
