Travel / Driving lights in Poland [25]

just buy a hummer h2 and run the cops over next time...

i think maybe you're thinking about RAMming them with a Dodge? ;)

- give short horn signals outside built-up areas while passing or overtaking other vehicles;

you know, i do that here on two lane highways all the time.. i think it should be a law here, imho.

and at all times from 1 October to the end of February.

there is his answer, most likely.

dipped headlights.

what are those?

5oo-23oo --> 50 kmh
23oo-5oo --> 60 kmh

i like it.. i also wish they'd do that here in the states... but nooooo.. in MT, no speed limit during daylight but something stupidly slow at night..

in WI they have seasonal speed limits.. faster 3/4 of the year and slower in the winter... i kind of like that too..

I don,t know what the figures are for Poland , but i know that when they made headlights compulsary for motocycles in the USA the accident rate went right down....for the first year , then went back up to the previous rate once people got used to them and began not to notice them as much.....

now many bikes have pulsating head lights.. the rear lights are still way too small though..

LED's and therefore better for the environment.

that has nothing to do with anything.. the laws are about SAFETY... can you believe it? ;) :D

Love / Polish men what is the worst thing a girl can do upon first impression? [360]

Not bad, but I dont think men "suck" at cleaning, they just do a god awful first attempt so you never ask them again..cunning swines they are!

cunning? maybe but like i said, "i'm bad at it" nor am i gay. ;) :D

i suppose most guys will agree on that, unless the woman in question is a rotten cook

and there are plenty of women that are rotten cooks.

Nothing wrong with the ice queen look, some men rather like it :D

but her skin have better never seen any sunlight to go along with that attitude.. there was always something sexy about Morticia.. :D :D

Better be serious singing Liroy.

that doesn't explain why they love them the bad boys... at least a joker is funny and there is no scarring involved with dating a funny guy.

see, i love cooking and am damn good at it so i'm good with not sharing that chore.. cleaning, otoh, i suck at.. so it's important.. i feel it to be a good compromise, don't you think? :D :D

oh, and i guess you hate when guys open doors for you or grab your coat when you're taking it off or pull the chair up for you at a table? am i right? :D :D

Travel / Public Transportation in Poland [30]

Hm, I didn't know it was such a big issue.

using english names for some of these places (or even latin) will not be as offensive as germanic ones.. i'm thinking you can see why after all the comments above, yes?

On the contrary, we use "W" all the time!!! It is the "V" which is hardly used. :-)

yup

Travel / Public Transportation in Poland [30]

Warschau?

first, you may want to drop referring to the capital in this germanic manner.. you will definitely overpay the taxi fairs if you keep saying that..

I would like to know how much the taxi fares would be from the Airport to the City Centre?

in another thread someone said 35zl.. but that's for taxi and not taki or something else that is not a "legal" taxi service

Or the taxi-fares in general

use the busses... most run every 10-15minutes plus you normally have multiple busses that will take you to the same location just via a different route..

German name for the Polish capital??

dutch

And my advice is, try to get change to pay for your bus journey, you'll be up a creek without one, if you try to pay the driver with a hundred.

yeah, great advice.. drivers never have change so you'll have to overpay..

I have to buy a new ticket in the other bus?

yup.. that's why you should just buy 10 or whatever.. i don't know if they have small booklets of tickets like that..

Ah, ok. Good to know. Will get some of them hourly tickets then...:)

unless you're traveling across the city..

Travel / WHAT TO WEAR END OF JUNE FIRST WEEKS OF JULY IN WARSAW [25]

Zara, Peek & Cloppenburg, H&M...you find them everywhere these days.

only in NYC, Miami and LA.. maybe Boston and Chicago but the rest of the country is definitely behind times..

Jeans are worn by Poles all over Warsaw. So I hardly agree with the "dead giveaway" comment.

the polish jeans are not the same as the american ones..

Travel / WHAT TO WEAR END OF JUNE FIRST WEEKS OF JULY IN WARSAW [25]

20 C

is 68F

Also the taxi when I arrive at the hotel. What is acceptable.

do the bus... the taxi aren't always safe.. public transportation in Warsaw is excellent better then most of USA..

pay with a CC whenever you can.. not a debit card. having some cash is necessary though and like they all said above.. do the ATMs.

jeans are a dead giveaway you're a foreigner/american and thus peoole will try to rip you off... guaranteed.. don't flash cash, be ware of pickpockets.. write down the numbers of CC help lines in case you need to call them to cancel the cards or get duplicates.. try to see if the hotel has a vault where you could leave your passport and other valuables..

even though clothing is on the expensive side, you may want to buy some wardrobe in PL to blend in better.. polish ladies are rather trendy.. it is europe after all.. also google some pictures of polish people and see what they wear..

i'd use an umbrella on rainy days..

Life / Kissing on the cheek in Poland. Lips for lovers only? [39]

maybe only when making wishes.

what do you mean by "making wishes".. i don't understand

Obviously not. I mean, even I've heard what happens there!

do you really think you get the full story? ;) :D

The PolAm you refer to Polonius, is the weird one obviously

he's off his kilter.. i 've never seen "pol-ams" do such a thing..

Polish girls just like Serbs very much. Its about attitude. Serbs are very spontaneous and girls like that

but serb guys tend to kiss each other like bush and prince faud here. ^^^ lol

Not really. Some Americans are very open about their romantic feelings:

he was just kissing up to the saudis or thanking them for sending the hijackers on 9/11.. it sure gave bush another term and actually gave him something that he may be remembered for..

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

What other details don't you know? Are those other details relevant to it being pilot error or not? Are those as of yet unknown details evidence? ;) ;) You want that evidence to corroborate your hypothesis?

if it shows i am wrong then i am fine with that..

there will be more data coming out over the next year or two.. i'm not familiar with russian investigative protocol but it takes years in the USA to get the exact reason for a plane crash..

O Rly? And for how long, do you think, Russians would stand such a thing?

you seem to think they'd have a choice.. russia isn't that powerful

I am not a russophobe, as I am not afraid of Russians.

maybe but your mistrust of them doesn't let you look at things in normal light.

Plk123 seems to have a crystal ball. He can tell you the future of the world ;)

dig out my early posts here and tell me i haven't been right from the start.. plus, you are tend to see where things aren't, nothing that i am going to say is going to sway you one bit.. i based my stand on what i saw right from the start.. and like i said, i doubt anything out there will change the results.

When the autopilot disengaged, it's possible that they attempted to pull up. It's not possible to say from the voice recorder - but there may be a record of their final actions on the other black box. Either way, they had what, 6 seconds to pull up? No way was that plane going to react fast enough!

oh come on now.. seanus knows that russians are monkeying with the evidence..

I still don't understand this part. How did they get so low with autopilot on?

many pilots/planes land via the auto pilot.. so that seems totally reasonable.. if you land and feel a jerk when touching down, that is most likely the autopilot.. pilots are much smoother.

I just can't, for the world of me, understand why they dipped. I've heard some nonsense about terrain dip but that would have been a foolish mistake.

it sure seems they weren't paying attention to the instruments.. and i bet they were looking out the windows and thus slammed the ground as the fog was way heavy..

As in the direction of flight? As far as we know right now (and it can't be said for certain, the data hasn't been published yet) - they were on course for the runway. But certainly, from what's been pieced together, they came in way too steep in the final seconds of flight.

and way off kilter.. the missed the runway by a "mile"

Well, the dip in the terrain is there, as independently verified by different sources. The crew would have been aware of it - but given the situation, the captain may simply have allowed it to escape his mind in the hope of spotting the runway.

bingo but that won't stop seanus from not understanding why..

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

There is no evidence that they did.

yet..

Read what you have written above, plk123. You write like an eyewitness so what do you need cleared up?

because i am sure it was pilot error.. nothing else.. now, i don't know all the details and those will come with time and will prove what i and others think happened.. i am sure of it..

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

the investigation is still in it's infancy, really so we need to give it a lot of time.. it's going to be years before everything has been gone over..

you didn't say it was Russia's fault but you sure insinuated it by saying where was their support from the tower at the airport.. we'll know more as the time goes by..

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

Tell me, where was the guidance from ground control?

they told them to divert.. but the PL plane decided to try.. then ran into the ground.. why is that the russian's fault?

to me the transcript are what i expected, for the most part.. i see no reason to question any of the info as it sure seems exactly on the money.. some of the questions you keep asking, you will never get the answers to as the crew is dead.. what i have posted along with a few pilots here, sure looks plausible and definitely along the lines of this being an terrible accident.. there have been plenty of similar examples given.. i see no real reason to think anything but fair play from the russian investigators..

In thick fog? Are you mad?

yes i am mad because the fig was thick?? wtf?

Lies don't matter? They gave nothing in that transcript.

does it really matter whether they said kurwa or jezu? seriously?

However, some things just don't add up but you choose to ignore them.

because as i said, some of the stuff you seem to be hanging on to is really inconsequential.. like the example above.. which word they said doesn't matter.. the fact is the slammed the ground.. bam, dead.

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

I'd understand a quick emergency session but why didn't he pull up and cut his losses? No pilot could seriously think that they could negotiate a whole set of trees. Just incidentally, what were those shooters doing on the ground?

because they were gawking out the windows hoping to see the runway..

How about the change of words from Jezu to Kur*a?

i told you, none of that matters.. it's called splitting hairs about something trivial, at best..

So, what is the logical argumentation of the conspiracy theorists?

there isn't one.. there is no way this is a conspiracy.. no way.. they made a major mistake that cost them all their lives. end of story.,

If they relaesed it on the day one,

you can't decode all this stuff on day one.. it's impossible.. only fools like you think that it's doable..

If it was genuine accident, they from the start woluld be as open as possible about it.

they have and it was.. there is no buts about it.

Can you imagine Brits shouldering Russians aside, grabing the black boxes and relaasing the first transcripts after a month?

quit your paranoia as that is not true.

Smolensk appears to be a makeshift, scabby airport. Protasiuk was really up against it.

you're finally starting to get it.. yes, old school military airport with hardly the equipment needed to land in super crappy weather.

Life / Kissing on the cheek in Poland. Lips for lovers only? [39]

I have more than once heard Pol-Ams returning from their 1st trip to Poland say that when they tried to kiss a relative (gender unimportant) on the lips he/she would turn his/her head so it landed on the cheek, then he/she would kiss the other cheek. That confuses some visitors. Is it true that kisses on the lips are reserved solely for lovers in Poland?

do you kiss your grandma or aunt on the lips? this question is beyond stupid.. wtf?

never male-male.

that is not true either.. when meeting close relatives, males will kiss each other on the cheeks.

Any other bureaucratic hurdles to overcome?

good luck and keep us posted.

a big middle finger to all the heroes buried there

which many thought from the start.. i am still pissed off about it, to tell you the truth.. foker

9/11 was clearly a conspiracy

clearly? lol

I want to explore all the angles.

the only angle you need to concentrate on is the angle of the plane debris to the runway itself.. pretty clear it was pilot error.. they got lost in the fog and got killed.. no matter what the transcripts say.. there is really no other way the plane could have ended up where it ended up.. that's it.

likely just a pilot error

ok

I just find the circumstances hard to accept.

like what? that these guys might have been stressed about being late and there was some disturbance in the cockpit and they were not paying attention to all the different things they ought to have and thus "landed" that thing hard into the trees and then the dirt? what's inconceivable about that? some of these other guys here (the pilots) have linked you to official accident report of very similar crashes.. there seems to be a systematic issue in polish airforce, like i and convex talked about earlier. i don't see anything fishy about it.. i sure wish it never happened but it did..

Now, when you put it like that.......

BRILLIANT!

ok.. tell me what isn't true in what he said.. i dare ya.. lol
