Travel / 24 hours public transport ticket in Tricity, Poland [3]

I have to buy separate 24H tickets for ZTM & SKM?

Yes:( There is a 24 hour ticket for all Gdansk buses/trams. There is a 24 hour ticket for all Gdynia buses. The two are not compatible AFAIK. There is a 24 hour ticket for the SKM too I presume....

There is no 24 hour ticket such as in London. 2 separate metropolis centres, competing with one another, seldom co-operating. That's the reality.

Law / Exchanging Canadian Drivers License for Polish in Lublin needs Exam? [12]

the process of exchanging a Drivers License for a Polish one.

Moi. But an EU licence from the UK. The Polish authorities are probably intent on screwing you over for the cost of a written exam because you are not from the EU. Plus I have residency, so it must be the old tit-for-tat diplomacy game in your case, (if the Americans insist on sth for us, we will do the same to them...), that drives the wheels of bureaucracy - the little foccas.

completely out of touch

So you're saying that a supposed saving of 20 million, sorry, billion, in potential fraud will pay indefinitely for childcare? Wow:) :) That's a one time saving only though, unless we're assuming that the same conditions and legislation would have held true indefintely. PIS only came up with this "fix" because there was a black hole in their budget plans - which there will be again, pretty sharpish I fear.

Raising taxes decreases investments

Who said anything about raising taxes? The tax threshold (the earnings at which families start paying tax) is set too low, in many analysts' opinions.

the tax threshold means the loss of income for the budget

Raising the tax threshold encourages endeavour. Are you suggesting it wouldn't work here for some reason gumishu? The arithmetic that the 20 billion cost of the 500+ will be covered by VAT reform surely doesn't hold water long term?

the tax threshold misteriously is sustainable

Yes.... Poland's GDP shows that it's perfectly reasonable that a family with two children pay zero tax under a threshold of around 1,300 zl/month, plus social payments for being in work.

The present system "helps" those who have a problem getting up in the mornings.

Universal healthcare will come to Poland very shortly.

I hope you're right Dolno. At the moment, whole swathes of people are not covered properly due to the expense and the health service simply abdicating responsibility, including children with disabilities, as far more treatment is outside of budgetary possibilities and health remit than in the UK. Disgusting in the modern age, and somewhat a carbon copy of the US's lack of duty of care to it's citizens (you started me off by the old chesnut that your politicians are somehow are wringing their hands on a Sunday night and thinking hard about how they can improve healthcare.)

Simple - fund the ****** properly with 12 percent of GDP. But they wont.

a government that cares about the people and cares for people,

That will be the UK then, where the NHS had to pay 4,000 pounds a week for my brothers' medical treatment. In Poland however, the government prefers not to help those who need it the most, refusing to fund the health service to a serviceable degree, but are intent on buying votes by handing out unsustainable welfare, when raising the tax threshold would do the same job, only better.

the good reputation of Poland'

There is "no good reputation" to be slandered Dirk. Not while this government is in place anyhow. The whole of Europe is laughing at you. The person who said the nonsense about informing on your fellows is a well known nationalist and not taken seriously by anyone.

As before, any Pole who wishes to revisit communism is scum of the highest order, but that's part of the problem in fact. It appears that Poles don't really want to stay free, They actually seem to want government interference in their daily lives - or those that agree with PIS do anyway. And the marches held on November 11th (in Warsaw anyway) do damage the reputation of Poland, as Duda himself admitted.

A good Pole isn't proud of the hooligan behaviour and hate speech at those marches - but you seem to be. I think we should be told why? When you get it back, how do you like the truth?

Still amused, by the way.

meager tax zlotys

First you say I can't speak Polish, then you suggest I pay very little tax. Must do better with the belittlements Dirk! In the meantime, Tri-City people are strongly anti-PIS, so much so that their politicians are not welcome here. Next gripe?

Keep it up and I will personally report you Doug.

Thanks Dirk! I needed a laugh. Dirk...who had some family members who you painted as propping up the commie regime. So now you, the Big Boy of Polish forums, are going to inform the Polish authoritiesabout little old moi? You do know what people thought of squealers back then don't you?

I've had the Katowice scumbag police trying to batter down my (steel plated) door without any success in the past, but I don't think the liberal (and anti-PIS) Tri-City police will be interested, do you?

Do keep it up Dirk:) :) This is amusing.

So you really believe that polish people are okay with you calling their independence day a 'wankfest'?

Yes, actually, the parades are exactly that, with their nationalist baying mob - didn't your president, him with the bleached teeth, admit as much?

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

probably not an extensive list by all means

The older community are jealous and afraid of the newer arrivals, and are happy to exploit them in any way they can, or at least be, if not unpleasant, suspicious of motives.

I remember the way my wife was treated by Poles in Nottingham back in the 80s, and it definitely wasn't with open arms. Obviously they thought she must have been there on government work, even when it was clear she was the missus.

That paranoia and general lack of empathy for other Poles remains true today IMO.

Why do you stay in pl if you think so lowly of the people, the countru the government?

The government? They are outmoded fools, who are playing the long game to be political bods because they are spending money that their policies did not generate. We will see how long that lasts. And I have lots of Polish friends thanks:) Most of them share my views - some don't, and we don't talk about society in that case. In fact my closest female pal is a PIS activist, but we just goad each other gently; she's cool, so I am too. Anybody who bangs on about muslims and such shite as Polska dla... etc etc get a verbal lashing from old me though:)

Love Poland, and the Poles who are my friends. No time for nationalists though, whether they wave a Union Jack, support the muslim brotherhood, go on a wankfest on November 11th, or whatever. Tiresome ignoramuses:)

Wait and see what they block , then we can discuss the rights and wrongs of their actions.

Are you for real Dolno? Did you really live in what passes for a democracy in the UK for all those years? You certainly fit in well in the Poland of today. The idea of proper government for the people is that they tell of their plans, then parliament debates the plans, the people air their views through petitions or whatever, and then there is a first reading of the proposed act etc.

In atrue democracy, that is......One doesn't wait for a law to be enacted then "discuss the rights and wrongs..." That is too late to do anything about it. But that's your game, isn't it?

I'm so glad for you that you've finally come home, to the brainwashing and autocracy that some Poles so clearly love - because they are too lazy to think for themselves.

manhandle our politicians

Some Brits would do more than manhandle the likes of Ziobro, after that disgraceful summer's night work 18 months ago, I guarantee you that.

News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

If we want the church involved in our lives and want to make Jesus King of Poland that's our decision.

FFS Dirk, are you a broken record? What's wrong with you, singlehandedly turning this forum into an anti-Islamist rant? Who really gives one? This thread is about Sunday closing, and the freedom of choice, and the topic of what muslim women choose to wear has nowt to do with my inability to buy eggs on the second Sunday.

You're wasting your time Roz. I blame the racist (grand) parents for not correcting such nonsense.

You bang on about different races Dirk, but what those people who talk about "cucked" or whatever they call it fail to realise is that quite a large number of immigrants have more right to be in Britain than they have as a matter of fact. Because they were born there.

Of course Poles don't follow the advice that you're always fond of offering me. Because there is no problem in reality. If some Poles don't like the community in the UK they can always leave. Britain is not going to amend its' society just to fit their racist sensibilities.

Travel / Anyone here use/used Ryanair? Flying from/to Poland [31]

he can go and f*k himself.

If O'Leary was a woman I would give him a kiss. Lost count of the number of wads of tenners for 220 pounds sterling I handed over to British Airways and LOT in the 80s, Heathrow-Warsaw.

Eventually I bought shares in British Airways to try to get something out of it. Lot were better than British Airways, but they still both ran the old cartel as a flight-share.; LOT had half decent food and as many minatures as one could drink:) O'Leary airlines are cheaper, and that's what the world wants today, not Wyborowa vodka. Also he flies to Stanstead, or in your case, to your door. Can't see what you're complaining about:)

Law / What's the deal with Polish Urząd and time scales in Poland (specifically for Karty Pobytu) [9]

I assume you live in tri city

No. Domiciled and running a business in Katowice. I spend some of my time in Tri City as well. Thanks for the enquiry though. I also run a Katowice registered car here, though others are under the misapprehension that you must change your registration to a different city. If people want to interpret the law in such a way and pay extra charges because they are still afraid of the authorities and believe it to still be an authoritarian system, then that is up to them.

What you are suggesting is, in fact, unenforceable., Please do feel free to report to your local office if you feel a crime has been committed:))

News / An article: NATO is the American occupation of Poland and Europe, by Mateusz Piskorski [233]

Much better for Poland to militarily neutral on global military alliances.

And it would be much better for you to stop babbling nonsense IMO Crow. Poland has never been, and never can be militarily neutral due to geography. I refer you to your globe. Again.

Poland and Russia are sworn enemies, and always will be. Ergo, NATO holds the peace in Europe, and you old warmongers should be grateful that you can build "Smaller" Serbia without interference, or at least until Russia sticks its' ugly snout in for a piece of the action.

Life / Sending a document by Train Post (Poland) [6]

I know I could Google for this, but does anyone know the answer please?

I want to send a document by Train Post (Poland) by handing an envelope to the train guard for collection at the other end of the line. Theoretically this is the fastest form of courier letter service available. Is this a simple process in Poland? Anyone tried this service who can indicate how you go about it please?

Life / Poland safe for a Greek? [93]

'dark skin'

Dark skin, as in heavily tanned. Daughter's boyfriend Catalan; dark skinned. So some Greeks can be too? Never been there.
