News / Polish children boosting standards among English pupils, study suggests [16]

Go to Miami and see how well the Cubans and Haitians have integrated. Spanish is the most widely spoken language there and parts of Miami all you hear is Creole. Birds of a feather stick together.

I know but in this particular case we're talking about your countrymen.

We always did. We integrated well

Really? I'm not trying to argue with you guys but here in the US, your countrymen live more for themselves, have their own shops, pubs etc. Most of them don't even speak English well (and that after living here for many years).

History / Ukrainian-occupied Eastern Poland [135]

Hipis

C'mon be real, man, huge chunks of nowadays Poland were much longer German than Polish. We all know it, no need to argue about it.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

PennBoy HAHA other way around silly boy. The level is 3 to 4 grades behind Poland. Polish 8th grade grads know the same or more math, history and science than American high school grads. Only American universities are better and that's a fact (money)

You're talking ancient history, man. Your education system in Poland sucks (nowadays) and your kids are just as dumb as any other kids. I had a chance to mingle with your people for quite some time and I speak from my personal experience.

Genealogy / Being ashamed of Polish ancestry? [156]

Yes there is, a Yank who wants to stake a claim to the honor of being accepted as a true Pole based on his ancestry has to respect his ancestors otherwise he’s just another foreigner, no more no less.

A Yank (any nationality here) is a Yank and not a true Pole. He can be an American of Polish ancestry, that's all. Whether he/she should respect the country of his ancestors, everyone has to decide it for himself. It's good to be aware of where one is originally from and show some respect too but no one should be looked down to just because he feels American, German etc. and because he has developed feelings for the country he's born and raised in. I personally see it as ridiculous for someone who's born and raised abroad to call himself a Pole (any nationality). If one considers himself a Pole, he should move to Poland and live there (I'm not talking about people who are born and raised in Poland and who just left Poland to make some money and go back).

the right to be Polish has to be earned

nope, either one is a Pole or he isn't, simple is that. Nothing to be earned here.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

Shorthairthug, given the broken English of 4 eigner's post #598, which you quoted, I don't think you should assume that he is an American.

Point taken

no, I'm a Polak just like you too, only a little bit more realistic about everything Polish.

Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA?

The question should be, why are Polish restaurants not successful in the world. If it's such a great food then why almost no one else likes it other than the Poles? Your food is not entirely bad, few things are OK but it will never be popular in most of other countries.

[quote=Monia As a proof, that Polish cuisine is healthy may serve a fact, that in Poland the percentage of obese people is insignificant. [/quote]

nazdrowie.pl/artykul/epidemia-otylosci-w-polsce

46% of the Polish population is obese - is insignificant to you?

in USA it probably tastes like shyte cos its made with factory farmed ingredients and meat pumped full of hormones, etc
SO there's your possible explanation..

crappy explanation based on ignorance as we have farmer's markets all around the US and anyone who's willing to spend few bucks more, can eat healthy products on daily basis.
