Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

You know, the sad part about this statement is that it's true. In England, I lived with 3 Polish people, and everything had to be Polish. They had Polish satelite TV, they only shopped in the Polish shops, and would only speak in Polish. Funny thing is, when I went to Poland with them for a holiday, the second we got into Poland, they magically started speaking English (Why is that???)

Simply that's how it is. It's a great subject for another thread. I'm not sure myself.

Anyways, I just want Poles in Poland to retain their language and not bastardize it.

And i want English snobs like you to get use to it. It's a natural process. No one gives a ****.

I don't want Poles to lose their minds and believe that everything "western" is automatically better.

And again, don't worry about Poles losing their minds. Let them decide what's better for them on their own.

I ACTUALLY WANT TO SPEAK POLISH HERE, NOT ENGLISH".

If you want to learn to speak Polish move to Chicago. In Poland people want to learn English.

How am I expected to learn Polish in my own time, when I have nobody to practice with? Oh yeah....
...... In case you hadn't noticed, I need to speak Polish to live here comfortably. ......
....uld do is reply in Polish, it's rude and doesn't help with your confidence in learning and speaking that language.

Sorry i had to shorten your quote up there.

No wonder, how are you supposed to learn polish if you insist on b*tching so much in English . I tell you, you got the right attitude but try switching to polish section of the PF.

How about if I switched to Polish when you tried to talk to me?

btw, I'm polish, if you switch to polish I'm ok with that. I would probably answer you back in English anyway.

To "fakt"

If you say fakt in Polish here people are going to think you said f*cked. Don't do that.

I agree 100%.
Polacy są warjatami

You're Polish too, unfortunately you cant wash it off so get used to it.
Stop picking on your brethren Polish for using English words in a casual coversation. I'm telling you, everyone does it around the world, and no one seems to think it's a problem.

... I guess except a few snobbish people like yourself thinking you better than everyone else because you're fluent in English.

a) When I try to speak Polish, people (especially the younger ones) simply reply to me in English. If I'm making the effort to learn and speak your language, at least have the decency to talk back to me in Polish.

They want to learn English. They use you to get free lessons you pots. Kids understand that it's important to practice other languages. Stop bitcihng and answer them in English. Learn Polish on your own time.

Seriously, why? I once knew a girl from Warsaw and she used the word "bekon" for bacon.

Italians use Italian words in their English, Spanish do Spanish things, black do their black thing in conversations Irish do the river-dance..
Stop being such a jackass.. WTF do you care? Just forgetaboutit... That's what makes the language fun. What are you some kind of proper usage of language police or something?

Relax it's ok...

Law / How much do Polish people actually pay in taxes? [12]

Expensive is a relative word. I'm a Polish immigrant. My family had no money, I had no money. My wife and I graduated from 3 different colleges (she got 2 degrees, obviously the better half), while living on my own, and no one gave me a dime. It's about opportunities and not about taxing the siht out of people.

Drexel, DeVry and Old Dominion University Va.

Love / Are Polish men romantic and caring or... "plain"? [85]

@JustysiaS
You're sort of a "virtual friend" to me, so I'm not thinking of you as a girl or a lady,,, I've just read what you wrote... I know that Sokrates sounds like a total as$ but i think i can explain.

The point I'm trying to make is that your man can be charming and romantic but is he going to take care of you when you need it the most? Can you trust him with your bank account?

Is he responsible, strong, and reliable? Most Polish guys are. See, you have to develop these kinds of skills as a guy in Poland otherwise you won't survive there long.

See Sokrates is probably 12 or he's playing a tough guy but the truth is that People in Poland are well educated, resourceful and with a good understanding of what honorable means.

Most Polish girls/women are the same so you're either young like Socrates or just simply blond for not being able distinguish the difference.

I know the last sentence was mean but i can help it, i was thought to be mean to appear tough. See, girls like guys that are respected by other guys. The easiest way to gain respect among guys is to be mean.

As i said somewhere here before guys are very basic.

Law / How much do Polish people actually pay in taxes? [12]

convex

Poland

Gross Salary per Year 100,000
Country Taxes 19,926

So the tax in PL is only 20 %? You guys have lower taxes than in the united states.

The US

Gross Salary per Year 100000
Country Taxes 27581.82

27%

You guys have it made. :)

This is what i was really looking for..

- Federal personal income tax 17%
- State & local income taxes 0.0 in TX
- Sales tax 8.6%
- Social security & Medicaid 7.65%
- Property tax 2.5%
- Fuel/gasoline tax 0.0
- Other 5% Includes estate tax, fees, licenses, inflation losses, inheritance, deficit allowance, gift, and others too numerous to mention. Estimated.

total: 40.75%

My question is:

Do ya know how much you pay in Taxes over there in Poland?

Law / How much do Polish people actually pay in taxes? [12]

I've been trying to research how taxes work in Poland but everything I’ve read so far seems very convoluted. Let's just assume that I live in PL and my houshold income is 40K PLN a month and no kids.

or,

If someone makes 480K PLN a year, how much overall taxes would they have to pay?

How much do you get to keep? Friend of mine told me that basically %70 of your household income is taken by the state. I think he’s nuts.

Do we have a tax savvy person here and willing to explain how this works in Poland?

USA, Canada / Do Poles feel America is going down the drain? [149]

My American friend is really depressed there. He had lived in Poland for 6 years before going back. He wants to return here and he will in due course.

Let's be honest about this. Why some people choose to go to Poland?

I believe it’s because they get a lot of attention there.

You can be a complete douchebag here but when you go to Poland you're instantly interesting, felling special and given a lot of attention. As pathetic as it sounds, they’ve discovered that just being an American makes them special in far away places like Poland.

How do I know this? My aunt and uncle do it, my friends have done it too. Some people get over it but others don’t.

Let’s marinate on this for a second...

There is so much opportunity here, why would anyone insist on living in Poland unless they’re making the big bucks there?

Some people may think America is going down the drain, I say they're just lazy, spoiled and overdramatizing.

You mean commercial registered vehicles f stop ,do you?You can keep van or truck in your driveway.America keeps surprising me though,I just learned that I can get myself semi-automatic rifle without any permits.

You're correct semi-automatic weapons do not require special permit. You do have to register them though, like all guns,,, and report if stolen. Unless you live somewhere out there in the Rocky Mountains, then you can have a bazooka at home and nobody gives a siht.

I prefer shotguns, way more effective in close range. That’s what I was issued in the Navy when we were boarding ships and checking for illegal stuff while in Persian Gulf.

Note to the PF moderator:
Guns are not the reason why U.S. is in the recession either.

Private pickup trucks not allowed in the driveway. Must be hidden in the garage.

You should then attend your home owner community meetings and demand to change that rule, if it's pissing you off. It's not a tyranny, you know.

Hotshot businessmen can be that way :(

I seriously doubt he's a hot shot businessman. Most likely he’s a semi-successful person, happy to have a full time job, just like us.

Please, keep to the topic.

I do, people feel that Polish yuppies are responsible for America going down the drain.

Read between the lines Mr. moderator.

People who get so mad at different opinions usually don't enjoy life as much as they claim they do

You're overanalyzing me... I get mad because it feels like you're blaming me for all that is wrong with the U.S tooday.

Please, keep to the topic.

This is exactly my point too.

What happened to the economy is a way bigger problem than me or you.

I'm a productive member of this society. I pay taxes, I don’t steal, educate myself about candidates I vote for.

I served in the military, I help out less fortunate people when I can, I keep my house energy efficient, drive a smart car in an f-ing Texas, recycle (even though I don't think it's efficient). What else do you want form me? Move out of my house because you’re jealous?

I’ve met people like you. They’re called Jehovah’s Witness. Go door to door,,, and than try to ram their opinions or ideas down your throat for no apparent reason.

Blah blah blah, F stop you should join them, you would fit in.

Wait, are you saying that paying landscapers to do my lawn caused the recession?

Crap.. I'm sorry everyone.

No, little less chemicals for the sake of nice lawn color seeping into the water supply would be a nice start...

the major culprits in keeping up this stupid (and harmful) idea

who believe nice green lawn, at all cost

I gotcha, infringement on peoples' rights, not cultivating the land, not eco-friendly and you suck Havok..

Ok, you convinced me, I'm moving out and joining your crusade against anyone who ever decides to live in a gated community.

All I’m saying is that I don't feel like dealing with the landscape around my house or talking to my neighbors about their junk in the front yard when I need to sell my house. I like living there and I pay people to take care of this shi* for me.

since you don't get to make any decisions about what's done to it.

My wife likes to mess with flowers in the front yard sometimes, I guess she finds it entertaining.

You don't have to be fortunate to own land in Texas. It's dirt cheap… I'm no farmer, you know, I have a degree in computer science.

What i suposed to do, grow potatos in my back? buy a goat? Think of it as a life choice.

Everyone wants to live in a nice quiet neighborhood but no one feels like maintaining it.
Think of the homeowners association as of a personal trainer helping your fat-lazy-happy American as$ to get in shape.

Some my call this an infringement on personal liberty, others, a pain in the as$, myself I hire landscapers, housemaids, and my wife and I just enjoy our lives. I could not ask for more.

Essentially, your house has to look like all the other houses in the neighbourhood.
Here is my favorite Ben Franklin quote:

I keep my house nice and clean because I choose to do it and not because I decided to give up my liberty.lol (are you serious?) I prefer neighbors who do the same, that’s all.

I can sell my house in this neighborhood in less than a month. Try to sell yours ...

You've noticed them and other people notice it too. As long their guns are loaded and they can pull the trigger when needed I’m cool with them eating sandwiches in their little booth.

Great piece of advertising for ceska zbrojovka

i'm just curious how they should protect properties in such old age...
anyway...

So, you're just assuming they're old… For argument's sake let’s say he/she is old, why would you think it would matter? You don't believe that some retired police officer at 65 could do the job?

I didn't say my old aunt works as a neighborhood watchman now did I? I wrote that she likes to say “ shoot first ask questions later.

I felt that this was relevant to the story, meaning my close family shares a similar point of view on things.

Oklahoma has a "make my day" law, the same as in Texas. Only thing is you have to be at home to get a chance to shoot them.

That's why you live in a gated community, neighborhood watchman will shoot that as$hole for ya while you're out. Everyone knows each other here and they won't let your home get robbed in the middle of the day either, shoot first ask questions later.

Lol My 70 year old aunt told me that. She drives like a maniac too, but that’s another story. (yup, She is Polish, mean old lady…)

There is this old saying... You can get more with a kind word and a gun than you can with just a kind word….
