News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

The common market, a total different entity is what we joined.

The U.K. joined the European Community (Communities) - one of the pillars of the European Union - and later signed the Maastricht and Lisbon treaties. Now you have left and proven that de Gaulle's scepticism was justified.

That's another Brody. The OP's ancestors came from Brody in Galicia.

Man, that's what I'd call some crappy cursive... :)
I can only read a few lines. I'm sure they are in German.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

90% of which are self-inflicted

99% of all problems are caused by population growth. As long as major religions condemn birth control or tell people to be as fertile as possible, nothing will ever change.

@Bieganski

Just quickly: what are your suggestions then? Just compare the population size of the developed nations to the third world. You cannot ignore the huge problems that are crippling Africa, the Middle East, parts of Asia and Central/ South America. At some point in time people will start marching north like zombies, and the only thing that will stop them is a nuke.

Save the image to your computer. Create a new post and click on the "Attach files" button right above the text box. Click on "Browse" in the dialog, browse to the directory where your image resides, select it, and then click okay. Post. That's it.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

Wrong. They are coming from all over Africa and via Africa from the Middle East and Asia.

TicTacToe was talking about Africans only, Bieganski, and as far as I know most of these migrants are citizens of former British and French colonies. Nigeria is one of them, and they are part of the Commonwealth, and Moroccans and Algerians were under French control for a long time. Many of them moved to France after independence.

...are still irredeemably corrupt failed states long after the Europeans and British were sent packing.

No doubt, and the former colonial powers are to a large extent responsible for that situation. The real question though is, can you stop a flood of dirt poor and desperate people without future? It doesn't work in Europe and it won't work in the US either. Treating the symptoms (= build a wall) is a waste of time and money. You'll have to cure the disease - i.e, help these people to get back on their feet in their home countries. How, that is another question.

Wonder what will happen with the 1 million plus Africans on there way to Europe

Mostly Commonwealth citizens. The U.K. will gladly accept them. The rest is from former French colonies, so France will be happy to help, too... :)

Genealogy / My Polish last name is Bober [7]

Parys, is this your father?

familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVF6-9SNV

The marriage registration record should list his place and date of birth.

Another helpful link: search.findmypast.com/results/united-kingdom-records?firstname=jan%20v.&lastname=bober&keywordsplace=st.%20helens

Once you know his date and place of birth, it should be fairly easy to contact the Polish state archive or the Civil Registration Office that is in charge and obtain further details.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

Depends how the bankers in London will react. If they shift their operations to Paris or Frankfurt, the U.K. is toast. Not to mention a Scottish independence or the (theoretically) possible break-away of Northern Ireland. I wish the Brits all the best, but I believe the BREXIT will turn out to be a big mistake.

NO HELP from Merkel, Hollande or the rest of the Continent either!

What do you expect? The Brits are on their way out now and still believe that they can keep all the benefits of the EU (i.e., free trade and others) without the obligations that come with a membership. You cannot set a precedent here, or the EU will disintegrate. In the end, it was a decision of the British voters. They'll have to live with the consequences.

Genealogy / Sokołowski - Reaching my Family Tree - stuck in 1799! [2]

Does the marriage record for Marcin Sokołowski mention his age? That's a good indicator for the year he was born (careful, the age mentioned in the church books is not always correct) and also for the time frame when his parents married. How far back do the records for Skierniewice go? If you can't find the marriage of his parents in this parish, try others nearby. Weddings often took place in the town the bride was born in.

News / Tusk or Hollande -- a Salomonic dilemma? What will be better for Poland? [180]

What is important is a fact that more and more young people in Poland came to conclusion that the EU is not such a great deal for Poland.

How many young people are we talking? What do you think, how did they come to this conclusion? Refugee/ migrant problem? Too much power for Brussels? Who gives them this idea? Someone who wants a POLEXIT?

@Kasia

Try this:

1. Go to border.gov.au

2. Click on the "Individuals and Travellers" tab and when the drop-down menu appears, select "Working in Australia"

3. Click on "Visas" on the left

4. In the "Find a visa" box, click on "View the full list of visas"

5. Under "Visitor visas", find "Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)" and click on it.

Et voilà ... all necessary information at your disposal. You can even download the application if you want to.

Classifieds / Work in Australia for a Polish girl wanted (tourism/recreation) [34]

The draw backs are high rent and a very hot climate.

Depends where and when you go. Sydney is really expensive, weather in winter is often crappy and cold. The far north is tropic, but it's very humid and hot at times. Rents are a lot lower up there; especially north of the Whitsundays.

Go for it as life gets shorter every day.

True that!

Classifieds / Work in Australia for a Polish girl wanted (tourism/recreation) [34]

Did you follow the link I gave you and read about the different visa?

What you need is the "462 Work and Holiday" visa. It's valid for one year and you don't need a sponsor, if I understand correctly.

"The Work and Holiday (Temporary) visa (subclass 462) is for young people who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to a year. It is a temporary visa that encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between Australia and eligible partner countries. If you have completed specified subclass 462 work in northern Australia in tourism and hospitality or agriculture, forestry and fishing you can apply for a second Work and Holiday visa."

You fly to Australia and find an employer yourself. Once you're hired you are allowed to work until the visa expires. If you found a job in the above fields, you are eligible to apply for a second time, which would give you another year to work in Australia.

Anyone can help?

Apply for a "Work and Holiday Visa" before (!) you leave Poland.

border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/462-

Once you have the visa and are in Oz, try Sydney or the area around Cairns in Queensland for tourist jobs.
