Travel / Exchanging £5000 at a Kantor in Bydgoszcz [9]

I would first find nearest the Kantors and ask them what rate they would offer you, tell them how much you have. They may not have that much money in their stock if you go on speck. I always get a better rate when I exchange a larger amount of sterling. Compare the rates offered with at least 3 Kantors.

Law / Ex-Girlfriend in Poland and Personal Debt [7]

Do you have a signed and sealed (i.e. by a solicitor/notariusz) document saying that from such a date everything will be split 50/50? If you do not have this then your chances of getting any money are ZERO. You should not have given her a penny/zloty....Learn from your experience.

Life / I'm going through IVF in Poland - Ask Me Anything [14]

I personally know a man in his late 50s (wife same age) who were told by a private clinic that they could try IVF. They paid over 40,000 pln and absolutely nothing. Private clinics see you coming - you are a cash cow to them. They cannot guarantee anything.

Genealogy / Kaminski - Helping my mother in law searching for a son she gave up for adoption in 1987. [3]

If you get in touch with the home, they may be able to help you, but may be reluctant to give you any details. The son himself, if he wishes, may get in touch with the birth mother, but you have to wait for him to make the first move. The home may be able to get in touch with him and tell him that his birth mother is trying to find him. He may not have been told that he is adopted and he may not wish to see his birth mother.

Genealogy / Looking for My Grandfather Polish Documents in Poland - 1900-1945 [12]

To me this smacks of a scam. Give me 250 and I 'will try' to find something. Sorry, didn't find anything and you've lost your 250. Good work if you can get it. I've read their page and it seems that they only search for 'certificates' - (birth, marriage, death) they do not help you through the process.

Love / Should I bring gifts? - help with a Polish wedding [46]

I believe that if you are going to a wedding in Poland, you should find out what their customs are. Everywhere is different. In Poland - people give money which goes to the young couple. A very good idea as the parents pay for the wedding and the young collect any given money for their future life.

Work / Salary for a senior software engineer in Poland [195]

I believe the 12K pln is the gross salary. If it is the net - grab it with both hands.
Please always quote salaries either in Gross or Net - then we are able to offer better advice.

Work / Salary for a senior software engineer in Poland [195]

The problem is always....how much are employers willing to pay. If you have exceptional skills and experience they will pay more.
@Pooja....you are expecting too much, they will not employ you. The best they're going to pay is 12K pln gross.

Work / Advertising for Hotel manager in Krakow [8]

Yes, I agree, but there are 'good' employees and 'not so good' employees.
You have to be really good to pull that kind of money for a hotel receptionist.

Real Estate / Finding land registry number by an address in Poland [16]

You have to go to:
town, section, then put 00 in front of your card number, then 000000 (your card number digits) then a dash after which comes the check digit so go through 0 to 9

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

Unless you speak Polish to a good degree you will have trouble finding a job. From what I can see even your English is not up to scratch. You can try and search for jobs - but you have very great hurdles to overcome.

Polonia / Sending a parcel from Poland to Italy [4]

Look for any small buses/coaches that go from Poland to Italy. There may also be private persons - so look on gumtree.

Law / Getting Divorced with a Polish National [8]

Unless you registered your marriage in Poland, then the 'church wedding' was only for show. It is not legally binding.
Make sure that your Thai civil wedding was legally recorded in England. if not, then you are not married. (Mick Jagger married Jerry Hall in some foreign land, and as the wedding was not registered in England, they were not formally married, so it does happen).

In my opinion, after you are absolutely sure that you are formally married, start all proceedings in the UK.

USA, Canada / Polish Law and divorce from a US citizen - when does it apply? [11]

>>>>>>My husband left no will and has children in Poland who are seeking to settle his estate. The estate consists of an apartment in Warsaw, several bank accounts, and retirement money which grew over the years while we were married.

Two things. First the children from his first marriage are entitled to half of those things which your husband had before he got married to you. You need to prove that. You must also be able to prove that anything else after marriage belonged to both of you. The children may seek his half (or quarter) out of that.

I would get a solicitor/lawyer. Do not pay anything to their children without any court orders. They see his fortune (estate) and you as a 'cash cow' now. As you are divorced, the children suppose that they can go after everything he left. It also depends on your divorce settlement and what items were listed there. Check with a good lawyer what is legally yours.

Work / Graphic designer looking for work in Poland [14]

Unless you are black (or any other non-white person) and have lived and experienced Poland you cannot say how people will treat anyone else. You have to walk in their shoes for a long time to know what they feel.

There are many people in Poland who do not like 'foreigners' at all, there are also many who have experienced the West and to whom the colour of someone's skin or nationality does not make any difference, but there are more of the former.

Work / Graphic designer looking for work in Poland [14]

You will have 3 barriers:
1. No knowledge of the Polish language
2. School/experience - proving that your certificates are recognizable in Poland
3. The fact that you are non-white.

Life / Living Expenses in Krakow [42]

The question surely is, what would an Indian (or in fact any other nationality) wife DO when her husband is working.
Poland is a very strange country for non-whites and diversity awareness is something not yet fully discovered or appreciated in Poland. In fact quite the opposite is true.

Today a Japanese woman was attacked and told to 'get back to her country'.
