Work / I got a job in Krakow for 3500 zl Brutto...is it ok ? [33]

What do I risk leaving the job before 12 months in Poland ?

These type of clauses are useless in the eyes of the law. Will they absolutly guarantee your job is safe for the 12 months? No. Just play the game and if it turns out unbearable, leave.

Travel / Is September good for going to Poland? [15]

I hope you enjoy sitting in pubs all day because that is what is on the menu in December. There might be snow then, but most likely it will be dirty slush. Our mood goes down but it will be interesting when you later post how dreary Poland is.

It will be an expensive mistake given you have a choice to come in September.

regards from Mexico :)

Happy belated Cinco de Mayo, btw. Bet you didn't know that the holiday was established after the national tragedy some time ago. The Mexicans, being true lovers of Hellman's mayonaise, were so distraught after the sinking of a whole freighter of mayonaise heading for Mexico on the 5th of May that they established this holiday. I bet you learned something different in school, but now you know the real story. :)

News / POLISH GAS RESERVES [40]

Yanukovich would be happy to make you a gift - Lvov and Volyn' back together with these funny guys :)

If he throws in Galicia, we'll take it.

At least my realtives in Ukraine is pretty satisfied by warming in relations with Russia. So, it's ok and for me too.

People in the eastern part are naturally content, but the ones in the western part aren't. They have a point as they've been dealt face-losing blows lately, topping it off with a PM who doesn't speak Ukrainian.

From the article linked above:

there is concern that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which includes Russia and Algeria, the two major gas exporters to Europe, could one day become a "gas OPEC", able to set quotas and prices as the oil cartel does.

I'm sure that is not only Poland's concern. It's just business anyway, in which Russia has plenty of 'friends' in our gov and fuel companies. Unlike Germany and Czech Republic, Poland has not weeded out the agents, ours and yours, from strategic positions. Same game, just blue ties instead of red.

News / POLISH GAS RESERVES [40]

It may require some expensive pre-treatement before it will be safe to feed to pipelines.

It is expensive to drill, no doubt, but as you well know Russia has cut the tap at will even in the recent past.

As to the Ukis, ala Svoboda and UNA-UNSO, I wonder if they will plunge Ukraine into civil war and try to separate. They are not happy at the moment. Of course, they will have to get new heroes if they want to join EU.

News / POLISH GAS RESERVES [40]

Let me show you how to do it. When you start a thread, you google "Gas Reserves Poland" and you will find articles on the subject, like this one:

Vast reserves of shale gas lying under Poland could free Western Europe from its dependence on Russian natural gas in the future with the help of recent advances in American extraction technology.

According to the Times, energy consultants Wood Mackenzie estimate up to 1.36 trillion cubic metres of unconventional shale gas could be lying under northern and central Poland. If the find is confirmed it will increase the EU's reserves by 47 per cent and offer a more reliable alternative to Russia's vast natural gas supplies. ConocoPhillips is planning to start drilling near Gdansk next month and will be followed ExxonMobil.

The question is why is the present government signing huge gas deals with Russia for way more gas than we need for the next 30 years?

Life / Some Poles have fine houses [68]

What they really do that? Thats disgusting.

Not do, did. V is talking about old country homes. If you had ever lived in a house before central heating in a cold climate as Poland use to be, you would know why your bed was as near as the stove as practicaly possible.

I can see you also have never seen a modern studio apartment either.

Life / Some Poles have fine houses [68]

Large and fine houses are for the nouveu rich, who in general must show their wealth. The concept of a charming cottage is as alien to them as tasteful jewelry or elegant clothing.

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

Yes, but my immediate focus falls on newspapers which with total impunity publish the Polish death camp lie.

Our official reaction to these is too weak. They should sue once and it would stop.

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

WTF?!

In today's Telegraph:

During the war, Ida Grinspan, now 79, was deported to the Polish death camp in 1944 but was one of the few survivors to make it back to France.

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

There are Holocaust museums popping up like mushrooms, and there seems to be always money for that. KL Auschwitz is the main museum and there is no interest from the Jewish side, yet they are very vocal what should be there.

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

90% of costs for this particular museum are covered by Polish taxpayers, but recently, answering the appeal to the international community several nations have answered. From memory: Germany, Sweden, and UK.

News / Michał Kamiński - referred to not by name on the UK Leaders Debate but ... [47]

people who think that the best thing to do on a Sunday morning is to go out and celebrate the achievements of the Waffen SS in the last war

PiS should sue him if possible, or at least ridicule him for complete ignorance and lack of any class, Scraping the bottom of the political mud barrel, how desperate.

Any Poles ever get a chance to pie him in public, do so, then quote him so he gets a lesson.

Law / Polish Citizenship for a foreigner whose parents was born in Poland [174]

Would this be a question your mother would ask?

Q: I am a Polish citizen. My spouse is a US citizen. Our children are born in the US and are US citizens. Are they also Polish citizens?
A:
YES. Children born from couples of mixed nationality lose their Polish citizenship only by parents' declaration made within three months from the child's birth.

Law / Polish Citizenship for a foreigner whose parents was born in Poland [174]

Don't take my word for it as such matters are best heard from official sources(Polish Consulate in your country), but I think it is too late in your case with one Polish parent. I am basing my hunch on this:

In accordance with the Statute on Polish Citizenship, of 15 February 1962 with later amendments (final text of statute, Dziennik Ustaw - Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland, No. 28, item 353, 2000)

"Article 4. A child acquires Polish citizenship by birth when:
1) both parents are Polish citizens or
