Love / Polish girl "loves" me, despite not meeting in real life first [56]

My ex GF (Polish) was sending me sexual pictures and being frisky over Skype but we were already dating and had met.

Pre-dating though, she was reluctant to send even selfies and my flirtatious comments over Skype were quickly shut down as she preferred "live".

For relevance she had over 25 sexual partners and was 28, so a) even "rambunctious" Polish girls are reluctant to engage in nudes culture and b) you still have to be dating them on a beyond virtual basis.

Any who aren't are extremely westernised and should be kept at a wide birth, AFAIC.

Compare to England and if girls aren't sending you naughty selfies you haven't got a chance in hell. I'm glad Poland helped me grow out of needing them to be assured of a romantic opportunity in that respect.

So in essence stay away from Polish girls who send you nudes in general.

News / Tesco out of Poland? Żabka and Biedronka opportunity. [73]

I've been boycotting Tesco since I moved. Don't see the point in moving out of England and buying English goods and supporting the country I left behind.

Not to mention they're too market hungry for my tastes. I'm glad they're not able to dominate the market here as opposed to other countries, and I hope any dismissals result in

Feedback / Removal of Polish diacritical marks [45]

I presume you're talking about ł,ż,ś etc.

I think the question should be "Why haven't I installed software that allows me to use them regardless of which website I'm visiting?"

On my lappy I have Polish language installed, and on my smartphone I have SwiftKey which allows you to install multiple languages - the extra characters are long-press options. Every now and then I have to visit the character map for uppercases on laptop, but apart from that it's easy to get used to.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

The second thing you're overlooking is that Brexit hasn't happened yet, so any Brit who wants to has two years to apply for whatever paperwork in Poland.

Not overlooking it, I simply doubt that any Brit who hasn't gone through the bureaucracy already by personal choice will be unlikely to go through it over the next 2 years.

As for the Karta Pobytu comment, you'll have to excuse me on that. You seem to be more informed than the Poles who talk as if KP still exists and ergo misinformed me as a result. I thought my "piece of paper" was a KP.

Atch, thank you for the reasoned response in spite of my aggressive tone.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

It says rights acquired before a cut-off on the day Brexit takes effect should be retained."

In other words all those entitled Brits that Bieganski refers to who didn't even bother to get Karte Pobytu (excuse my potential inaccurate declension) will have to go back.

Then Italexit and all the Italians who were too busy partying and wooing local women will be forced to out.

Travel / Warsaw in May, Auschwitz, Kantor in Old Town [33]

Honestly it's not worth the effort. Auschwitz these days is verging on holocaust Disneyland.

I went there in Oct '14 with newly acquired Polish friends, so fortunately during a small tourist respite and my company were not tourists. I cannot imagine it in Spring/Summer and with a gaggle of Brits. I was rather ignorant myself, but I am not an "avid photographer" (if you get my drift) and I wanted to be an upstanding example in front of my new friends so I didn't do anything out of line.

Much later, while spending time with my then-GF, one enthusiast of history which we got to talking to recommended one which has a huge dome filled with the ashes of the victims, and that it's extremely quiet in terms of visitation. Both of these concepts sounded more appealing than what Auschwitz and Berkanau were. I trust it is one of these two recently mentioned.

It was all invented as a marketing campaign by De Beers.

Diamond rings as an essential engagement ring was invented by DeBeers.

Either that, or that you must spend x amount of money on it (4 months salary?).

Unfortunately I am not so well versed on jewellery in general, so I couldn't help you make any informed decisions. In my opinion an Onion ring would be more conducive to the market than a Pandora :D

But on a serious note, you mentioned Amber. I've heard that any amber purchases are a waste outside of Gdansk, due to extreme overpricing or it being not genuine.

Reeko, I implore you not to buy from Pandora. The products are extremely overpriced and their entire business model is based on establishing a trend. Not to mention that you pay for a tiny piece and have to keep adding to it in order to make it "more whole"

Essentially women want Pandora because other women have Pandora, and when you have it you want to have more. I refuse to advocate such a concept.

Support a more independent company that invests in quality, not marketing or selling their product in pieces :)

Thank you for elaborating on the proposal situation. For the record when an English person says "I can't help but wonder", it's usually rhetorical.

I see that it's quite simple; she is a romantic type and wants a memorable engagement as opposed to a "logical" one.

At least you are still keeping it a personal affair - no doubt you have seen engagements that are far too impersonal (Americans are notorious for making engagements super public). The idea of by the Chopin statue, being a tourist spot is still a tad much for me however (not proposed by you, I know) so perhaps go with something like Paulina's option

I have had many female friends of the intellectual or humble variety, and all of them abhorred the idea of being the center of attention during a proposal. You know your wife better than though.

I take back what I said about the CCamp, if it's her who is emotionally invested in such a place then by all means do it. I think most people here had a different impression.

^^^

"Honey look at all these people who died before they could lead fulfilling, wholesome lives together. Let's not have the same experience, will you marry me and spend our lives together?"

As added bonus you will have all the British tourists already with their phones out so you can have the memory uploaded to YouTube:

"Went To Auschwitz And Saw Proposal! (SUPER CUTE) (WATCH TIL THE END)"

Seriously though you can come and see a concentration camp another time, make an engagement holiday purely happy. Ignorant somewhat but weddings aren't exactly the height of reflection and intellectualism.

I can't help but wonder though; why a second proposal? What can happen to a first one that a second proposal is still viable?

Love / Why the Polish girls are not laughing? [22]

Laughing all the time can be extremely obnoxious at worst, and plain annoying at best. As with apologising, if you are doing something all the time it ceases to have value ergo if a girl is not laughing so much, when she does laugh it can be magical. The trick is to be able to trigger one, but once you do she could be yours for the taking.

As an Italian, who are often obnoxious themselves I feel like you may be too accustomed to Latino girls who are super happy party types and it's shocking for you to imagine that there are cultures in which girls are more solemn and reserved (for the most part), and also respected/considered to be attractive in spite of that.

You also have to take into account that during January the pollution was terrible and the weather fluctuated between super cold, then warm, then cold, then warmer etc which can be tiresome for even the happiest individuals. People outside of the party mindset will not be happy without reason.

Love / My Polish girlfriend and her change of behavior [5]

You are posting too much personal info about someone over the internet.

Ah, give him a break. People are posting this kind of content all over the internet now. Just in places a bit more tailored to it (Relationship/Dating forums for example). If anything this is just a weird place to vent to this kind of extent.

It sounds like this girl is bipolar, I would advise you to steer clear, because this isn't going to change. Rule of thumb is; if you have to ask anonymous people on a forum for relationship advise then you should end it. Most posters are merely looking for affirmations to keep trying, which is ultimately futile anyway.

Study / Looking for suitable English secondary school in Warsaw [17]

Anyone would think you were trying to deter him, Dominic, as you try to deter so many others who want to study in Poland.

Does it really matter whether Dominic is deterring others or not? At the end of the day if you're convicted enough about your future plans you'll do them regardless of who encourages you or not.

A lot of fresh faces aren't even convicted enough to do their own research and browse the many sources out there made for expats which will answer their questions, nevermind continue pursuing education here when it turns out it's not as accessible/viable as the British, German or Swedish education system.

Food / A request for WHEETABIX to be stocked in Polish Tesco's [39]

@jon357

If I had to guess, it's the marketing and the packaging. You know how anything can have a health spin on it, and the public lap it up thinking they're taking making an informed health decision rather than read the nutritional information and be clued in on things.

It's the same in England even though NI has been required by law for yonks, forgive the slang haha.

Reading NI in Polish was one of the first things I learned, actually.

Btw is there a more efficient way of quoting than having to copy and paste plus write the username in the BBcode? There's no quote post option from what I can see.

Food / A request for WHEETABIX to be stocked in Polish Tesco's [39]

One item that has appeared on the shelves here over the past few years is instant porridge in different flavours.

Oh, you mean those tiny portioned ones in sachets that have preservative-d flavours mixed in with them which are 5x the price of płatki owsiane?

Food / A request for WHEETABIX to be stocked in Polish Tesco's [39]

The tomato soup and the oxtail that people make in the UK is actually quite a bit richer and more complex than the equivalent here.

When I have soup in England I no longer feel thirsty.
When I have soup in Poland I could go without a Main and I'm no longer dehydrated.

That's why I compare English soup to water. Rich tomato soup here it may not be, but at least you have rice or pasta inside so you're paying for actual food.

they called cumberlands?

Heh heh, you've adopted the local grammar as well as the terrible eating habits I see. Well, can't fault you on integration that's for sure.

As for your comment on soups - UK soups are closer to flavoured water from Evian than actual food. I still remember the first time my companion ordered soup and I opted out because I didn't want to waste money, only to see practically a main course given to them ^^

Food / A request for WHEETABIX to be stocked in Polish Tesco's [39]

@gregy741

There are many, many Polish shops in UK cities because Poles can't stand our food. In fact generally Polish people think our cuisine sucks or it's so bad it can't even be considered cuisine. What planet are you on? :P

If your name is Grzegorz, you are an exception I promise you.

This whole "Tesco should be stocking English food" reeks of entitlement. Talk about fitting a stereotype. I don't get why anyone would move to a different country and want exactly the same shopping choices - learn to adjust. Where I came from I could step into any shop and stuff my bag with flapjacks, now I have to make them at home.

Learn to do the same - plus it's healthier.

Life / What items is Poland's market missing? [20]

In England I never used plasters, because they always came off. Microporous tape did the job of covering wounds for the whole day, but here I only see plasters in Rossman etc.

Law / I bet that many of you forgot to register in the Poland's municipality office [13]

Sorry to hear about your difficulties Terri.

I registered long ago, recently in my expat FB group I saw another Brit who's been living here for 20 years insist on not registering because he and I quote: "doesn't have to".

No matter how many Poles told him it's written in the law and even born citizens have to register he was adamant that because he hadn't needed to go to the Urząd in the past 20 years, he sure as hell wasn't going to do it now. I really hate the ignorance of my countrymen sometimes. My own included.

Meanwhile Terri here is in straits.

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

Technically Islam is the religion of submission, considering that's what the word is in English. Submission to Islam, according to Mohammed and every true follower of him.

Anyone saying it's the religion of peace is either parroting the previous two American POTS or trolling.

Love / Are girls aggressive to chase men in Poland? [13]

I'd vouch that the loyalty of a nation's men are relative to the sexualisation of a nation's culture. Anglo culture propagates polygamy more than monogamy and that is reflected in both genders.

Not to mention partners can blow up later in life, and cause an imbalance in the relationship which may ultimately lead to straying from your marriage. It doesn't help that we're brought up to think "You can always do better".

In terms of Poland not only is there no glorified cultural sexuality encouraging you to "build notches", marriage has a more cohesive purpose behind it and women are more likely to stay pleasant both in personality and looks - so there's little incentive to chase a new piece, excusing the crude language.

Of course there is still the occasional Piotruś Pan, but you can usually spot them a mile off. They will try to take you to bed on the first date, can't go a night without a beer or two and have no hobbies outside of watching sports.

Love / Are girls aggressive to chase men in Poland? [13]

Girls are not aggressive here - maybe in the clubs the stara Polka's after a few glasses of wine are quick to jump on rich looking foriegn boys. But the general population keep to themselves, maybe having some girlish charm if you find yourself speaking to one.

However I'd vouch that girls are more likely to be honest about their feelings (if they have any) rather than play the games you get from Western chicks. Time is more precious to them, while Wgirls act like they're eternally youthful until they hit the wall HARD. And even then they might be delusional.

Pedestalization is the main problem, and girls aren't pedestalized here so they have to make some effort.

Language / 'stary pryk' - Translation Check - person from a story speaks Polish [71]

Hmm, well perhaps it might be worth knowing for future reference that in English we use "old fart" as a term of endearment. Like a Grandmother to her Husband if he overcooked the pasta.

In this case the English word "Prick" which I was referring to would be more apt. It doesn't help your OP but I don't like leaving stones unturned.
