Genealogy / If your ancestors were in the "Wehrmacht"... [217]

My great grandfather who was a Volksdeutsche was from Gnesen and he was a Prussian soldier in the German Empire in WW1 and a lieutenant in Wehrmacht in WW2.

My grandfather was sent to Germany to go to school and started his training in the Hitler Youth. Lucky for him a couple months before he was to go into the Wehrmacht the war finished.

My grandfather and his family had very Polish first and surnames but were very very German and identified as being ethnic Germans.

My grandfather and his sister were from Category 3 on the Volksliste

History / In WW2 Poland who was eligible to sign the Volksliste ? [48]

interesting. from further investigation into my family history I have found out that my grandfathers family considered themselves as ''Prussian Germans'' from Posen.

out of personal interest I am trying to figure out how many Ethnic German grandparents my grandfather had and I am wondering if category 3 can answer that question?

My grandfathers father was a lieutenant in the German army in ww2

@Ziemowit

that's because this is a different document. the document i was telling you about was from after the war (my mistake)

yes its very unusual and interesting they chose to spell his surname the polish way.

do you know how many German ancestors you would need to have to be in category 3?

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

When the war started my grandfather along with his mother and younger sister fled to Germany (I think voluntary) so if that's the case on his German Identity card why wouldn't it say

Ethnicity : German NOT Polish?

I guess I have to find someone who has knowledge in this field to take a look at the documents.

If anyone has knowledge about WW2 German identification Cards and is willing to help me please message me your email address on here and i shall email copies of the documents :)

Thanks for everyone's help !

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

Ok so I spoke to a distant relative of mine and apparently my grandfather's father had a German mother. They also told me that its possible that my grandfathers mother also had a German mother. So if that is a fact why would it say on his German Identification Card, Ethnicity : Assumed Polish ??? I am still very confused

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

My grandfather was born in 1929 in Gniezno in the Second Polish Republic. So his Citizenship was Polish.

But the question is how much German ancestry did you need to have to be considered ethnic German and to be in the Hilter Youth ?

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

I am confused to

it says on another Nazi identification card nationality : Polen

@ Harry

I am Australian so I am halfway to being British ;P and I think its important to know my family history no matter what comes out of it because that makes up apart of me.

the question is do you have to be of full or part Germanic to be in the Hitler Youth? if yes then my grandfather was of mixed Polish and German ethnicity which is why he was considered German enough to be fully Germanised... what do you good people think?

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

I was very Proud to be of Polish ethnicity but finding out im not that Polish and im more German is a little crazy but oh well we are all human

I still cant understand why on my grandfathers German identification card it says

Volkszugehorigkeit angeblich : Polen
Ethnicity Assumed : Polish

how does that work if he is considered an Ethnic German? I am still puzzled
