Law / Newborn entering Poland using British passport [16]

I agree with you Rubasz that Polish citizenship is very hard to get rid of.We had done the mistake for our kids to get them Polish citizenship, should have let them decide if they wanted it or not.Sometimes later in childrens life that can create problems.

Travel / Returning to Poland after 20 years in America [18]

I left Poland because of the air pollution

You and couple of other Polish origin Americans, who would criticize Poland every way they can including pollution or the cheap clothes they wear in Poland or its the new money for Poles.Let me tell you big boy,its all jealousy.I have seen those who couldn't achieve in there respective countries tend to criticize Poland any way they can.I have seen that nation get up on its knees since 2000 and make others jealous.

Law / Lawyer familiar with EU law needed (to sue my employer in Poland) [65]

@OP,if its an American based company and has head office in the USA,you can get a lawyer on contingency basis and the sue the company here. Also you will find out what value does your case have.Usually the fee is 60% for them and 40 for you incase you don't have to pay court costs etc.If any lawyer takes the case provided he smells money then usually such cases are handled by corporation insurance lawyers. If the amount is not big and even has 25% chance to win it is usually settled in mediation, paid by insurance.

Law / Non E U. looking to retire in Poland, seeking permanent resident permit. [21]

Not if you have a senior home with indoor, pool, sauna, hot tub and maybe racquetball court or tennis court. But again Doug a guy like you who has to slog to pay his bills from 6.30 AM in the age of over 60 cannot even imagine that some smart people retire at 44 with high 6 figure incomes.

Love / Why Polish Women like to relocate their foreign husband back to Poland? [5]

Because they understand and communicate with each other.

And why Polish Women Like to relocate their Foreign men back to Poland?

Mine did not and also plenty others that I know did not as well.I think its only the insecure ones do that.
I have been with my Polish wife over 33 years,we do have our days but then one of us gives in and all is hunky dory.

PS:Poland is not the best place to live and raise a family esp if you are from a different country/race/culture.

Life / Settle in Poland, which city is best? [30]

In Rzeszow the population is growing because lots of Ukranians are settling there. Also there is huge new development going on.I use to be good at the streets there but with new roads its all new for me now.If I have to choose I will go for Rzeszow. Its developing has an beautiful new international airport.First time we flew there in 2000,they had a rented car waiting for us on the tarmac, ofcourse its not like that anymore but very good terminal with direct flights to NY by LOT.

Real Estate / Home loan for foreigners (not from EU) in Poland? [10]

3 to 4% variable,as they don't have fixed rate mortgages, one reason I never take loan there.Even on residentials they charge you pre payment penalties. In US infact they are 5,75 for commercials now and going up.I think another 10/15 years you can live off the money in bank again if they keep on going up.

Real Estate / Home loan for foreigners (not from EU) in Poland? [10]

@Mr Ben,better use an agent, who have contacts with different banks and know what each bank require. They do charge a commission between 1/2% to 1 % and there are closing costs till 2%.If you have a resident card then it is easier otherwise banks would ask 25 to 30% down payment for a residential property. The whole process I heard usually takes around 1 to 2 months.

Work / Bar staff - Hourly rate Wroclaw [4]

Not in Poland and usually in Poland people don't tip the bartender. In US when I ran a bar the bartenders would die to work on thurs, fri & sat and no one would like to work on mon, tues, wed. Also legally you could pay them $1,50 an hr and they made 3 to 500$ a night on tips(they also get tips from waiteresses who also tip the cooks)

Law / How to exchange almost expired USA driving license for Polish license? [16]

I have a USA driving license that expires in 3 weeks and am trying to figure out how to replace it here

You will have to pass a test to get Polish license which will first be issued for as long as your US license is valid meaning for 3 weeks as you have mentioned but then you will have to get a medical test to prolong your Polish license. You can go to any General doctor for the medical exam,I got mine that way they issued license with no expiry date but now I heard they issue for 4/5 years and you have to renew it.Yes taking a Translator always helps:) and in my case was mandatory.

I would suggest you renew your driver license in US first as you don't have much time left or go to AAA site and apply for a IDP(International driving Permit) which is good for one year for you to drive.I don't know if Polish authorities change IDP to a Polish license and they will keep your US license when they issue you Polish license but you can always get a duplicate one in US

Also you will need a sworn translation for your license(front and back) and you have to be careful as the categories are different in Poland then in the states.

I changed my license in 2003 so rules might have changed now.

News / "It's too late for Germany" (but not for Poland) [1798]

Don't be silly Johnny. Poland is no place for seniors. For a start they don't salt the pavements my way. And hospitals have no food

Calm down Dougy,Poland has the best care financially as JR mentioned, the hospitals do have food I guess you are still living in the lala land when some expats here use to advice that landlords could be threatened with tax dept in Poland as no landlords paid taxes on rent ( hope fully those comments are saved somewhere)and do you really care about the way you think think natives who are almost 40mil?IF YOU DONT LIKE THE PLACE YOU LIVE IN L E A V E!lol f you an afford to financially:)

Law / Selling 'imported' car within first year in Poland [7]

@OP,you have to own the car for 2 years outside Poland to avoid excise duty and other levies which almost amount to 48 to 52%,the price is determined by Uzjad celny(gone are the days when you could fool them). No one will buy the car with foreign plates until they are stupid or have a passion for that car.I suggest keep on driving with Slovakia plates, but insurance wise you can only insure in Poland for liability coverage until being in the EU you can get full coverage there.I have a car with US plates and have to write to Uzjad celny to increase my stay and they do for 6 months at a time and after 3 years I have to take it out of EU(I cross the Ukraine border and come back) and am good for another couple of years).

Life / Retiring in Poland [39]

Dirk man 61/2% return for a freaking rinky dink restaurant commercial properties with 5 or 3 yr lease(which is crap in Poland)?I have a walgreens with that yield in US with 19 yrs left on lease and they are A grade tenants. In Poland they copying US and pricing properties with returns ONLY.Plus they raised taxes almost double with no benefits from this year,If $ wasn't that high Id be bringing back instead of reinvesting.

Life / Retiring in Poland [39]

How much would it be to rent a 1 bedroom apartment? How much to buy a house?

All depends where in Poland. To buy can start anywhere from 2000 or less Pln a sq metre to 30k pln a sq m.
Renting to experiment living in Poland is a good idea.Lately return on properties in Poland is almost the same as in US,so I think Poland is in a property bubble. In normal commercial places in warsaw they freaking asking 20kpln or more per sq m

Law / Inheritance Law in Poland (protecting myself from in laws) [25]

the civil law is stronger than that clause and spouse, kids are entitled to a share whatever you write

I think the OP don't care about spouse/kids inheriting(so do I) but her mother in law and brother in law(BIL and his family in my case).
