Work / Is it hard to get a work permit in Poland? [43]

Horses for courses.

It's your opinion and you are entitled to it however I do not share the same opinion.

There are nicer looking cities but overall I prefer to live in Lodz.
Most cities are exactly the same, It is what you do yourself that makes it a good place to live.

I have been to lots of places in your homeland and I found most of them to be scruffy, the motorways and roads are also terrible.

(I know there were political problems for a couple of years)

I wouldn't say they were bad places to live either, I can make anywhere feel like a nice place to live.

I live in Lodz and I like Lodz and that is not going to change whatever bad things you say about Lodz.

I hope I can get a job there soon and any help would be nice.

I have my PESEL numer and residency card and will go onto those websites mentioned earlier.

Work / Is it hard to get a work permit in Poland? [43]

It is very different to what it was in 2009, it is improving all the time.

There is lots of work being carried out on Piotrkowska and Piłsudskiego at the moment.
A new shopping centre is being built by the Polytechnik.

I like Lodz, the plans they have are also good. There will be a motorway like the M25 around £ódź and also an inner ring road like the North Circular in London.

Centre of Poland too.

I understand that I can't change Polish peoples perception of £ódź. I like it, which is all that matters to me :)

many beautiful houses are in really bad shape.

When were you last in £ódź? I don't agree with this statement. £ódź is now a good city to live in, everything is or has been renovated over the last 6 years.

Language / Is Polish an easy language to learn and is there a way of learning it easily? [105]

I don't like Britain and anything it stands for any more.

I believe in an integrated Europe. I don't agree with interfering in the Middle East, Britain shouldn't be interfering as the middle East cannot live with western democracy. The politicians are all idiots and the Jeremy Kyle Generation make me sick and embarassed that I am British.

Language / Is Polish an easy language to learn and is there a way of learning it easily? [105]

It doesn't do future tense and doesn't do declinations correctly.

I learn faster reading my book on grammar and chatting with Polish people.

Every time I use google translate my friends have to correct me.

I live in Poland and want to pass for native Polish, google translate is useless to get to this standard.

Language / Is Polish an easy language to learn and is there a way of learning it easily? [105]

Its only boring at the start, when you get to level 2 it is not boring and everything you learnt in level 1 is used but the language becomes second nature.

Google translate cannot distinguish Polish future tense and ALWAYS gets it wrong.
If you want to learn "Pigeon Polish" go ahead and use your method but you will not be learning how to talk properly in Polish.

Like Fuzzywickets said, if you think Polish is easy you cannot speak it well and don't understand it.

A Polish Grammar textbook like amazon.com/Polish-An-Essential-Grammar-Grammars/dp/0415164052#reader_0415164052
will show you how difficult it is to get right.

Rosetta stone is not over priced, it gives you a very good grounding in the language. Then you need to increase your vocabulary and how to say each word in all it's different variations.

If you want to learn Polish you must put in effort, there is no easy way to learn Polish to speak it well.
Google translate is useless if you want to speak Polish like the Polish.

self learning this way is very enjoyable - and far less constrained than any rosetta offering -

Rosetta Stone is not a gimmick, it works. Like I said earlier, it should not be used alone.
Google translate is rubbish, I wouldn't rely on it at all.

A good book on grammar helps far more than google translate.

Food / PIZZA & KETCHUP served only in Poland? [159]

It is not Ketchup that they put on Pizza. It is homemade pizza base sauce but also there is a home made Garlic sauce used too.

Language / Is Polish an easy language to learn and is there a way of learning it easily? [105]

I read somewhere, that, out of all Indo-European languages in Europe, Baltic languages are the most complex and difficult to learn. Slavic languages are just a notch below. The easiest way to learn Polish? Rosetta Stone.

Rosetta Stone on it's own is not the easiest or best way.
You will only get very basic Polish from Rosetta Stone as it only goes to level 3 in Polish.

I use vocabulary cards and I have a Grammar Text book too.

I have been learning for 5 years and I still can't hold a full conversation in Polish.
I now live in Lodz so I hope immersion in the language helps me learn faster.

Dzięki Szczecinianin i Fuzzywickets. I take on board what you are both saying and I have tried lots of different approaches to learning Polish.

I am OK in shops and restaurants etc where I know the context of the conversation, still not brilliant. Not living in Poland made it much harder.

I am now living in Lodz, well will be from 20 November after I finish these Microsoft IT courses.
I have organised for a 4 week course at the University so this should help too.

I will then start looking for a job in the IT field in Lodz.

Language / Is Polish an easy language to learn and is there a way of learning it easily? [105]

I have been teaching myself for 5 years now and I can barely hold a conversation in Polish.
Reading and writing i'm not bad with but listening and understanding is my downfall.

Now I have a flat and a residency card for the next 5 years I hope that I will improve faster.
I am booked on a course at the University of Lodz in March.

Rosetta Stone Totale is a very good way to learn if you can use it every day.

Language / Hejka / Nara - a trendy youth greeting in Poland? [26]

Polonius3

My Polish Grammer book thats 15 years old has 'Hej' in as Hi. It says nothing about it being used as goodbye.

My Girlfriend and Ex girlfriend use 'Hej' at the start of emails.

Love / Living in Poland with Polish girlfriend: is it possible? [4]

As far as I am aware, you need your Girlfriend to state you are living in the same apartment as her and you can get a residency permit.

That is what my Girlfriend was going to do before she broke up with me.

Study / The worst of Polish education. No wonder Polish universities are bottom of the list. [142]

Sorry, but it's not.

From being English and going through the whole education system and working with people who have been through the English Education system the standard is better in Poland. I know lots of people at Polish Universities and they are better educated than the English people I know.

The English education system is not good enough to educate chimpanzees let alone the young people in England today.
IMHO anyway.

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

I was flashed on that road 1 year ago but I have not been given a fine.

I drove past a police car at 140km/h and he was not bothered.

I think its just stupid speeding that they are after.

UK, Ireland / Female health in Britain - Polish view [105]

If a midwife is just as good, why didn't she study to become a doctor?

Because she wanted to be a Midwife. A midwife specialises in Child Birth, a doctor only specialises at a later date after he is a doctor. A Midwife is able to deliver a baby, the doctor is there for any complications.

A GP is there to diagnose if a specialist needs to look at something. If they just refer you with only a glance then they are lazy. A GP should not be on the front line of Medicine if he is dangerous.

Taking your Girlfriend to a gynaecologist does not show maturity or you care. Maybe to you it does, but you are not every girl, my girlfriend would never let me go with her to see a gynaecologist.

It's irresponsible to not check your girlfriend has STD's before you have sex? Do you believe in Pre-Nuptuals too.

Where does trust come into it?

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

I drove it 18 hours ago. There are 120km/h signs everywhere now since the road works finished. There were 4 police cars within the first 20km of Germany at 02.00 this morning too.

The Belorussians are the worst drivers that i've seen.

Well, in that area but the Omani's and Albanians are really really dangerous in cars.

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

The Speed Limit is 130 km/h in Germany and Poland. 120 km/h in Holland. Its true parts of Germany are de-restricted but they are applying speed limits more and more.

There are lots of 120 km/h sections of the A2 towards Berlin. My advice is don't drive faster than 130km/h so you can see the signs for the slower speeds. Most junctions have 100km/h speed limits!!

Don't drive as fast as your car will go, stay at a reasonable speed. There are lots of Police on the A12, the section Berlin to Frankfurt Oder. All the road works are finished so you should have no delays through there, its 120 km/h on this road too.

There are numerous rest stops through Germany and Poland, they are all safe. I've slept in my car numerous times in Germany. Note!! Don't sleep in your car in Belgium, its illegal. By Law you must carry enough funds to be able to pay for a hotel room.

The Poles are building a new Motorway from Frankfurt oder to Poznan. Add about 2 hours to your journey time for this section as its full of road works.

Just drive sensibly and you will be ok, Germany Autobahns can be quite scary if you have never driven them before.

Life / WHEN DO THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD IN POLAND? [19]

3x4 = 12

3x4x5 = 60

3x4x5x6 = 360

360 degrees is a circle.

Sundial is a circle. 360 / 30 = 12

12 hours in day. 12 hours in night. Therefore 24 Hours in a day.

Babylonians used these numbers. No one else saw fit to alter these things.
