News / What the Polish government do to bring back home Polish immigrants? [116]

@ Sylvio
What you say is, unfortunately, true. Poland is still a great place for rather petty tribal wars. How it works, you have just seen in the above post of Iron as he didn't even bother to read your message to the end before he started acting as a spokesman for one of the tribes.

Life / Is the palace in Warsaw going to be rebuilt? [29]

The place will remain intact as it is indeed a surviving part of he Palace, so where's the problem?

Thanks for the aerial perspectives. They show what a nice frame the Palace would be for the Saski (Piłsudski) Square.

Life / Is the palace in Warsaw going to be rebuilt? [29]

The Pałac Saski nicely closes up the Piłsudski Square (formerly Saski Square) and would in no way would be obstructive to ceremonies. To the contrary, it would set nice background to those ceremonies.

Likewise, the Saxon Palace would have set a nice background to the Saski Garden on the opposite side.

Part of the project should have been the rebuilding of the Brühl Palace adjacent to the Saski Palace.

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

And don't give me any sh*t that 100,000 African blacks in Warsaw would be fine with you.

Dear me, there is something in your comment that sounds true !

Calm down, calm down, Johnny. Are you being American today?

Your comment was just ambiguous. It may well have supported the stance of that immigrant racist RM as well as it may have spoken to the contrary.

Your remarks to belittle me have nothing to do with this thread.

It had nothing to do with belittlling you.

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

The church is Poland's culture which makes it a very important part of Poland.

The church is, but the problem is that they sometimes meddle too much in Polish politics. On the other hand, politicians tend to use the church solely for their own purposes. Thus, the alliance of the throne and the altar may eventually end badly for the church.

And my attitude is that God knows my heart and my intentions even if they appear to another man as a sin or hypocritical.

I wonder if you had God's approval for this idea of yours (expressed in another thread):

Wouldn't it have been easier just to put up a sign [in a Baltimore resaturant] that said, "No Blacks Allowed".

"Only" is a very improper word here. It was two too many, don't you think so? [Let those two unfortunate women rest in peace.]

The Battle of Vienna.

The Polish forces coming to rescue Vienna was Poland's big mistake. We should have left the Habsburgs to their own fate as these were the Habsburgs who almost 100 years later forgot about it and de facto initiated partitions of Poland by taking over some lands south of Nowy Targ in 1768. It would have been much better for Poland if the Austrians had yelled under Ottoman yoke since 1683 onwards.

The six wives of Henry VIII and the fact that he ordered to murder them all (or nearly all - I don't remember exactly) was also beyond belief.

Travel / Poland's LOT Air Problems [43]

it is the airline who decides

Then I agree with all of you. LOT is only about money and nothing else.

FLY OR NOT BUT NEVER BY LOT - as the famous slogan went in the commie times.

Language / "zi" as "zee", "si" as "see" , "RZ" as R Z.. etc in Polish language [29]

Therefore no ciy, dzi, niy, siy, and ziy (spelling), and no ćy, dźy, ńy, śy, and źy (spelling & pronunciation)?

I think you've never grasped the concept of softness in Polish properly, so you ask all those rather silly questions. The writing has always been secondary to speaking, so the most important thing is look at the pronounciation first. The spelling 'ćy' is absurd by definition (ć is soft, so it will never be followed by 'y' - it is simply impossible to pronounce it this way), so it is useless to search for some strange combination of letters.

Travel / Poland's LOT Air Problems [43]

... it was more of a nightmare! They pack you on the plane like sardines and my legs were falling asleep.

Come on, if there is so little space on the Dreamliner, you should blame the Americans since they designed and manufactured the aircraft. Why do you blame LOT for that?

Language / "zi" as "zee", "si" as "see" , "RZ" as R Z.. etc in Polish language [29]

'Zi' is just a graphem for 'ź' (soft z) used when a vowel follows it. Otherwise, it is spelled 'ź'. If our ancestors were a bit cleverer, they would have introduced a more accurate transcription before the vowel, such as: źemia, źelony, źimny or przeźerać.

Language / "zi" as "zee", "si" as "see" , "RZ" as R Z.. etc in Polish language [29]

"si" as "see",

'Silos', for example. In good dictionaries you will find this pronounciation especially marked, for example as s-i.

I'm pretty sure I've seen an infinitive or two that ends in suffix -rzić, and pronounced like rolled r + ź.

Mierzić

Zamarzać pronounced like rolled r + z

A very good example.

like zigzag

The Polish spelling is 'zygzag'.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

Actually, this year we are having the second such hot summer in a row in Poland. Climate change has become reality and not only statistics.

fires burning in the rain forests in South America that supply 30% of the oxygen to the world.

These fires will just add to climate change. The man chiefly responsible for the fires in Amazonia is Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro, knicknamed "Brazilian Trump".

Language / 'MOZNA' - When is this used? [27]

Odra River - measles

The name Odra has no Slavic motivation and is thus the name is pre-Slavic. Possible analogues of the name are: Adriatic (Sea) and names like 'Adra' in the Danube basin which were present there in the Middle Ages.

The oldest recoded names of the river are: Oderam (year 814 and 940), Odera (965). The Roman sources do not know the river Odra, even if they know the rivers Vistula and Elbe.

Law / Penalty for driving on expired license in Poland? [30]

But if fined, he could take the case to the court and ultimately to the European Court of Justed where - I think - he should be acquited. It is because of the incompetemnce of the Polish administration that he is deprived of his driving license. He could sue them for a compensation for all his losses.

Looking at his case, the Polish Administration is one big joke.

Law / Penalty for driving on expired license in Poland? [30]

In both cases a letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Home Office) will be worth trying, I think. They should deal with such cases country-wide. The Ministry will reply to you directly and not through the poviat or voivodship. I would forward the karta pobytu affair as a complaint, pointing out to the mistakes of the Urząd wojewódzki (the unnecessary request of theirs to submit the required documents once again).

Law / Penalty for driving on expired license in Poland? [30]

The office is making up their own rules which are not at all consistent with what the law actually says.

If I were you, I would take the matter to the Administrative Court (there are 16 of voivodship courts plus the chief one which is a court of appeal).

Or, if the office has its superior, I would first refer to them. What is the name of the office that denies you the license?

Polonia / Poland and France cultures are similar [112]

the vikings raided France several times from the IXth century until they decided to settle around the river, hence the name Normandie

That could be true of Normandie only. It would not have been feasible for the Normans to impose their language on the whole of France. What the Vikings were not able to do, the Romans did several centuries earlier by romanising the entire Galia.

Britain is in fact a French colony which turned sour :)

You ignore the fact that English has remained a Germanic language in its gramatical structure and its basic vocabulary has also remained Germanic.

Proximity between Scandinavia and France is further confirmed

There is no particular proximity between Scandinavia and France. The Vikings settled in many coastal areas of Europe and occasionally in its arrière-pays. In all those places they eventually became assimilated and subsequently lost their native language to the local one. The best example of that was the Kievian Ruthenia. No, the Vilings never imposed their language on any group and actually the reverse is true.
