Law / Registering a Business in Warsaw - Location of office? [7]

The first option. I have my business registered in Wroclaw but want to move everything up to Warsaw now. I live in Zoliborz, And idea where that office may be?

Merged: Address in Warsaw for various offices to registered company

Hi. I am about to embark on a company registration process in Warsaw. It will be as a -self employed' entity as opposed to the S.A. type.

Has anyone gone through this recently and would you have a list of the addresses of offices that you need to visit in warsaw?
Many thanks for any help.

Language / Learning Polish...looking for a software package? [10]

Hi. Try this...supermemo.net/search/polish

There should be an option for 'Polish - Miniphrase book' and you can access it there. One thing i will admit about this website is that it can be a bir awkward getting to the course. Have a look and let me know if you are successful.

Language / Learning Polish...looking for a software package? [10]

I have tried Supermemo and really liked it. The last time i checked they had a free version which gave you some of the basics. I would also recommend byki.com. This is more for vocabulary. Really recommend you try the games as they do make the vocabulary stick in your head. Again, they have a free version and you can upgrade for a fuller version. I think you have to be online to do the supermemo one but you can download the byki one.

Best of luck.

Merged: Applying for EU funds - Has anyone here done it?

Hi. I have a meeting next week with the relevant department which issue EU funding. It is in their offices in Warsaw. Has anyone on here been through this process? I asked the ladies what i needed to bring in, and they said, just my ideas. I am looking for funds in the area of training / HR development.

I would be interested in any feedback.

Law / Looking to open Polish Office - Advice Needed [7]

Hi Caveman, Just to let you know that there is a scheme over there where a company can employ a university student for a period of time, and you get to pay significantly less social insurance etc. I am not 100% sure what way it works but i was working in an IT department for a major bank over here and they would get a lot of students in on this scheme. They did seem to know their stuff. Not sure if you would be interested in this, but thought I would mention it.

Life / Uptight Poles [262]

Magdalena, i think your response sums up exactly what i said.

Well, don't then. Hold the door for people who care about you and whom you care about, and they will thank you for it. Strangers are exactly that in Polish culture - strangers. If you shower them with attention they don't expect or want, they have the right to not thank you for it.

I do it because it is the courteous thing to do. Many times i have said to myself that i wont hold the door open becasue of the reaction, but then i would be lowering my standards to theirs and i refuse to do that. I have had many experiences of doors been left to close in my face and i would not like to do that to someone.

If you were in their way in the first place, you are expected to be doing the apologising. Polish people will not say sorry for someone else's blunder or fault. That's a typically British thing to do. If, however, they were in your way, they will say sorry - and these are probably the "exceptions" you speak of.

Your response to this is childish. If it is ever my fault, i will apologise. I am sorry to inform you that most polish people do NOT say sorry if they bump into you or it is 'their fault'. Your reponse to this is also a typical trait...'there has to be someone to blame and i have to be in the right.' Again, if someone bumps into you, or vice versa, i think it is courteous to say sorry regardless of who's fault it was. No need to aportion blame. Sorry it was just the way i was brought up. You obviously were not.

Life / Uptight Poles [262]

When i saw the subject of this thread, i was fired up to write and essay but i will keep it very brief. Have been here over 5 years and have dealt with a lot of polish on a number of different fronts, both professionally and personally. I have met some very nice polish people so i dont mean to taint everyone with the same brush. But in day to day life in poland, the polsih are rude and uptight.!!! I am sick of holding the door open for people and there is absolutely no acknowledgement of it by way of a thank you...when someone bumps into you, there is no Sorry...I am very easy going and can look over the occasional rude indivudal but when the rare exception is when someone actually says thank you or Sorry, you know its an issue.

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Not sure if this was mentioned...but i was in 'Paparazzi' bar in warsaw the other night. They have sectioned off an area with enough room for about 5 people and 1 table near the door. THIS IS FOR THE NON SMOKERS!!! The rest of the bar, about 97% of it is given over to smokers!!!! Makes a farce of the law. but nothing new there.

Life / Children in Krakow Apartment Playgrounds [21]

Thank you vndunne for providing some constructive input instead of mindless criticism...

Yeah. I Know what you mean. I have given up putting up threads here as i cant stand the unhelpful replies you get. Some people have too much time on their hands and need an outlet to deal with their childhood issues .

In relation to you issue, also think about putting a 'nicely' worded notice in all letter boxes. Mention that you too have a baby and that, with the noise, it is very hard to get the baby to sleep in the evenings. Of course, you understand their childs need to play, but if they could just do it a little bit quieter....!!!

its one things, kids running around playing...its another thing when they are given 'aids. to make even more noise....Maybe get in contact with the managment company and ask them to up up a 'nicely' worded notice...Failing that, put one up yourself in all the lifts...

Law / Returning items for Refund/Credit Note - Specifically IKEA [8]

Hi. I am just wondering what the story is in relation to returning items and getting a refund/credit note. Due to a brief moment of colour blindness, I bought covers for a chair which are totally inappropriate and would like to bring them back. They are in the original packaging and everything. I bought them in IKEA.

Thanks
