Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

I pay 183PLN but the mother of my co-teacher charges only 50PLN or sth like that. I'll ask her but it was low. She is good apparently.

Real Estate / How are Poland's properties priced? [51]

Wow, that's pretty darned cheap. 180,000PLN potentially for 60m2 is not bad, especially given the area and how attractive they look.

Real Estate / How are Poland's properties priced? [51]

Seanny is right here, the GUS stats bear that out. Salaries have been steadily increasing but seemingly not in line with inflation. Poland was decidedly a cheaper place to live 5 or so years ago.

Properties are horribly priced for the most part, I have to say. Some dingy places for 160k. I am accustomed to small places for a fair bit of expense, though.

Renting is typically 20% in my experience, both in Japan and here in Poland.

News / Can a Polish person give up EU handouts? [15]

I was originally under the impression that they were targetted funds but 2 things have changed my opinion. Firstly, that the Bulgarians have spent a tiny fraction of what they have received and, secondly, that Poland received a specific grant for the development of their roads but didn't use it.

UK, Ireland / Immigration and Identity: how to keep Polish identity when living in UK. [30]

Nice post, guzzler. Despite all their disillusionment, many still dream of returning to the culture that they love. It's all about where you put yourself or, indeed, where you are put. They keep their identity through local Polish events, shops and honouring Polish traditions from afar.

Life / Where could I get MDMA. XTC in Poland? (drugs) [21]

Polskiweed, I think you are having a laugh. Mods are nearby should you keep this up. This is not a place to discuss illegal business. Get off your butt and go and scope it out for yourself. Jonni doesn't need to deal with your type, he's above that!

MDMA is for losers!! It's a mugs' game.

History / What connects Poland with Vlad Impaler or to say Vlad Tepes or simple Dracula [43]

How about Croatian Vs Serbian fighting? I saw some horrific pictures from Vuckovar and Knin and I cannot imagine why anyone would do sth like that.

How about Ukrainian brutality against Poles in WWII? There is a Slavic brotherhood, Crow, but largely locked in romanticism. Poles believed Russians were coming to help them against Germany but Katyń should have told them otherwise.

Still, I don't wanna dash hopes and would be happy to meet you to discuss it.

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

The Polish image of a Scot is one of being stingy but let me dispel the stereotype here and give you some free advice.

A is effectively 1, e.g a chair, a studio etc. Then we have 2 chairs, 2 studios etc. Singular with a and an, then plurals (regular and irregular).

Sarcasm, advice, news, information are not typical. Pieces of advice, words of advice, for example. You could say 'a sarcastic' but it would have to be followed by sth like person or remark, e.g a sarcastic remark because you can count the remarks that people make.

Please ask me for further advice if you want. I hope I have, at least in small part, dispelled the stereotype ;)

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

You don't count sarcasm, TIT (bez a) :) Sorry but I've heard some Poles really let loose and it isn't nice. Leave it for the generation that lived it and even then in small doses.

I'm not gonna second guess people so it looks like you meant it unless you use wink marks.

Partyzant, I don't watch tv but you seem to, that's how you know so much about Germany, LOL ;) ;)

Love / Scottish & Polish relationships [229]

No gimmicks, please, simply red is here :) Scots and Poles make for a turbulent relationship but it's about understanding each other's fire. My wife will quite often say 'kurwa' in ostensible anger but that's just her way and she lightens up soon after. There is much compatibility really :)

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

That generation died, Partyzant. Many Germans apologised to me during my Masters, my colleagues then. Please don't judge them. I liked a couple of them. One called Jurgen from Berlin was nice and another called Florian from Hamburg. Other than that, they were arrogant sods who thought they were better but academic types tend to be, regardless of country.

TIT, that's not warranted at all. Hitler and Stalin were madmen who weren't stopped quickly enough. Stalin was Georgian and Hitler was Austrian. NOT Russian and German. Many modern-day Russians and Germans loathe them.
